I remember Brian criticizing The Voice. He wasn't happy that it was just the voice that was being considered, instead of the whole person/whole package so to speak. I think he felt that stage presence/charisma were also really valuable when it came to judging a contestant. I'm thinking maybe they don't hate the Idol and/or X-Factor format so much, or they wouldn't show up to be guest performers. It also had something to do with Brian's current solo partner, Kerri Ellis, not getting selected during The Voice auditions in the UK. I think they thought that she is too Broadway. Here is what Brian wrote about The Voice on his blog. Pretty harsh but I understand his point. Just saw something that made me realize, yet again, how extraordinary Adam is. On The Voice, Blake Shelton was criticizing one of the contestants for not putting enough heart and emotion into a song the contestant has performed many times (the Eagles' "Take It Easy"). Blake emphasized that to succeed, a singer needs to find something new and fresh even in old familiar songs, every time. He stated that a fan might attend a show just to hear that one song, and will go home sorely disappointed if the singer performs it halfheartedly. Adam never, EVER, performs anything with less than a full heart and his best effort, and without fail, he never performs a song the same way twice. He always finds some new notes, new phrasing, new expression, etc. to enhance it and delight himself and us fans. And he accomplishes this instinctively, with so little effort! This reflects the depth of what singing means to him and how deeply he cares about making his fans happy. How can anyone not love this man? I had the same thought when Blake said that -- I thought of Adam immediately. I also thought it would be interesting to hear what Adam would do with a Journey song. Very few people can come close to Steve Perry but Adam can. (There are a mediocre Journey cover on The Voice tonight.) |

Setting that aside, DMG manages artists who will be performing at both the BBC's NYE Live and the Superbowl. In ratio, it is probably bigger than the Super Bowl. That 12-14 million is close to 1/4 of its population! |

Do Queen fans do this type of thing? Not that I recall ever seeing a Queen fan threaten anyone like this but there are fringey Queen fans too. Just this is not their style. And really I only think a few Adam fans do things like this. |

Not quite -- 13.52 million is 21% of UK population (64.1 million) -- this is the fireworks show. 115 million is 36% of US population (316.1 million) -- this is halftime show. (I used the 2013 ratings and the 2013 year end populations.) -- and the high ratings is for the fireworks show.
