momtomany quote: This is why I embrace the Urban Dictionary; why I am finally realizing that my sexual self is just another part of the loving person I am. Curiosity is okay! Exploration of self is okay! This is true liberation for those of us born in the 1950s.
very touching post. however, I was also born in the 50's and had a completely different lifestyle. the sixties were a wild time in nyc and I was a wild child. I was already dancing in the gay clubs in the sixties. Oh, Pastababy, I was there, too. The man I met and married was there with me. One night we were so done for we could not find our VW bus - - - after seeing the show at the Fillmore - 'Canned Heat' and 'War' - and a light show that was beyond dizzy. What I am saying is I didn't find ME. I didn't explore ME. We toked, we danced, we were young and so free in San Francisco - - but young women didn't 'go there' about themselves. Even now, it's still a subject I'm feeling like is on thin ice.

I was already dancing in the gay clubs in the sixties. Oh, Pastababy, to be in NYC during the 60's!! I had my first ever trip to NYC for RMT. Stayed 5 days and fell in love with the city. I spent the 60's in a midwestern town and then university. My parents almost fainted when I brought home a 'hippie' I was dating. Didn't know gay from May. How we each bring our own perspectives and life experience into this forum and how we are all learning and growing together. Pretty neat to me..

There are press at the Listening Party and many contributors to the project -- so it is not a private event -- it is really a promotional event. You may recall that they raised money to complete the project and anyone contributors got a VIP invite to tonight's event. www.kickstarter.com/projects/1979798701/labor-of-love

Whew!! Okay, back from play and lovely dinner with my group of local stans and now caught up on all the flail, RAKASTAN, RakStars, slalom, etc.
(Crispy, our local group was formed when one of the members took it upon herself to go through the bios of all of us registered at ALF and emailed everyone in our region to organize the group – there are probably more than you realize close to you). The group is lovely and we get together about once a month. They are as obsessed with Adam as all of us are.
Now the Jesus Christ Superstar recap seems off topic because of the flail of the day. I stepped out of the play and literally Adam tweeted the moment I touched my phone. We were cracking up!!
I'll try to be quick since this is taking the momentum out of the flail.
The production was REALLY good – courageous, original, incredibly clever, timely and the performers were actually high school students (I didn't know this until I got there). They had fantastic voices and it was set in modern day L.A. The boy who played Judas wore eyeliner, black nail polish, all black and had dyed black hair. He had the persona of a rock star rebel. Heaven on Their Minds was done like it was a rock concert. To me, he was very Adam, but it could be argued that he was also some Billy Joe Armstrong.
My thought to have Justin Timberlake play Jesus fit exactly with this concept, because the boy who played Jesus was VERY Timberlakean, even wearing a beanie like JT does through most of the play.
They used multimedia and tweaked gender (half the disciples were women), also Ciaphas was an Asian guy who resembled Sutan; Annas was played by a girl and they were incredible – costumes were very Matrix – long black coats and purple touches.
King Herod was a straight-up Gaga impersonation. Hilarious!!
There was a lot of commentary on infiltration of media and celebrity culture – all so relevant today. The cross was actually created with TVs stacked on top of each other – then a plank, then two smaller TVs placed on either side.
A really edgy director could go crazy with this concept. Oh, also, the "orchestra" was an actual rock band on stage – lead guitar, bass, full drums and keyboards. They were also fantastic and high school age. REALLY, REALLY talented kids. What a visionary director – so great to see a truly original take. I hope whoever is developing the current JCS project gets wind of this because it was very edgy and relevant.
All of the kids had huge voices (not perfect, but still very good); I'd say I was way more impressed with them then the current crop of idols vocally. SilverBlue, who used to be on PF, texted me and asked if I was going. She saw it Friday and then coincidentally, ran into the girl who played Mary at UCLA when she went to visit her son the next day. The girl was very excited to be recognized.
If a project of this scope happens. They MUST have Adam play Judas.

"This time, a year ago, I got alot of laughter from my dear family. I think they assumed I was, belatedly, wishing for a second chance at youth. They thought it would pass. And, as all of us here know, it has not."
"My DNA has changed. The very essence of me has changed. I am learning about the rest of my life. Why did I shun the opportunity to acknowledge life in all its forms; love in every way? Why did I think love could only be between a man and woman? Why? Why, when really thinking in organic terms, did I know heterosexual sex happens often, in every fucking way, but that homosexual relations were somehow 'icky' and forbidden?? Where was the rock under which I hid?"
momtomany-- You very eloquently expressed how this "60 something" has been feeling for the last 2 years. I think my family believed this was a passing fancy, or a chance to relive my youth for a short time. Now they shake their heads and think, "Well, whatever makes Mom happy." I have a happy marriage, and a loving family, but this young man has added another dimension to my life that I will always be thankful for.

NoAngel, my ickyness was in no way directed at you. It was towards the woman who was tweeting that from the party. No, I understand. Her last tweet (that I didn't post) was what made me realize I was going into a gray zone I don't feel comfortable in.

Danielle is a singer and songwriter. She has a lovely voice and also plays guitar and keyboard. She has an old CD out at CD Baby. Her full name is Danielle Stori. Thanks, Mys*&@^#r. I didn't know this. Guess I'm a bad fan. (Walks away with head down.)
