I know, that birthday's párty and Sauli not going at WFF gala - it was a little weird and I had a feeling something could have been wrong with them. Anyway, the announcement of their break-up was a shock for me. And there were quite a lot moments that let me believe they stayed connected in some way. I could be wrong. But I just feel it the way.  But they did stay connected. They never hid it! I'm sorry, my english is not good enough to explain it properly, but I have a very similar feelings as grandduchesspf, Buderschnookie and rihannsu about their relationship. |

Just a little FYI about the missing parts of posts... I was using my Android phone the last couple of days and had the same problem. But when I scrolled to the bottom of the page there was a choice: Dashboard or Desktop. I chose Desktop, the screen reset, and my problem was solved. I don't know or understand why, but thought I'd share in case it works for someone else. With all this good news, we sure don't want to miss any of it!  Yes, this corresponds to my findings as posted earlier today. "Dashboard" is likely the same thing as what I am calling "Mobile" web site and "Desktop" is likely what I am calling "Full" web site. What browser were you using on your Android phone? I really don't know. I've never chosen one or downloaded an app. But since Android is a Google platform, I would guess it's Google/Chrome. |

Easy Definition: Friends who have casual sex (not involving commitment). Ha, I know what it means, I was talking about translation. It actually is not that easy, because the whole connotation of the expression is special. This mix of dry, but flippant commentary, tongue in cheek observation, or puritan disapproval, is unique to this expression. I.e. the American expression 'a booty-call' also means casual sex without commitment, but the social implication of the situation or the relationship is a completely different one. Language is tricky, and there are not always simple ways to translate. Btw, this discussion was, at least for me, removed from A&S, at this point. Just a cultural discussion, triggered by those playfully separate, but not really separate picture sets. |

The thing is Adam has at this point practically established a game with the fanbase when it comes to speculation about his tweets and instagram posts. He is well aware of the various obsessions and has become very adept at playing with us on his terms. The proof of this for me was his favoring 2 particular tweets during a fan discussion about whining, unproductive comments on news articles. The first tweet was not tagged with his name in any way and the only way he would have found it was to have been either paying attention to specific fans or following back on specific conversations. He favorited that tweet hours after so he had to have been looking back pretty far in either conversations or specific peoples feeds. The second tweet was one stating the opinion that he was sending a message by favoriting the other tweet. He would have been well aware of the speculations going on based on Sauli's instagram posts and could have chosen not to give any confirming information at all. He chose to post the photos that he did. By not posting actual pictures of them together he kept a certain degree of privacy about the exact nature of the relationship while at the same time confirming some of the speculations. He seems to actually have less of a problem with the fan speculation than he does with the press. He knows what things the press will run with and what they won't. By doing things this way he gives us a little glimpse into his life without triggering endless press articles about on/off romances. The tabloids got nothing but we did. I'm not saying there aren't lines crossed at times but in reality there has really been no greater speculation here than I have seen and heard in various social circles I've interacted with. I've overheard just as much or more assumption and speculation about ordinary peoples private lives during an average trip to a hair salon so there is nothing really extraordinary about this whole situation. Thank you everyone for a lively discussion over the last few pages. This is a community of friends who have 'known' each other for a few years now and have covered many topics as well as spending most of our time simply enjoying all that is wonderful about AFL. Just a general comment - I think that I took great care to frame what I was saying without judgement of anyone. I also try not to frame my own perspective as being 'right' and therefore automatically making differing views 'wrong' in some way. No real or nuanced discussion is possible when that happens. And I was genuinely only expressing how I felt and was interested in knowing other peoples' views. In no way was I telling other people to STFU or being a moral arbiter. I think we know each other well enough by now and appreciate the diversity of views here well enough not to need to go there, or at least I hope so .... rihannsu, I agree with your main points. There's no question that Adam would have known what he was doing and that he was consciously sharing part of his private life with his core fan base in a clever way. It is part of his kindness and relationship with us, although he has become far more cautious and circumspect these days. He's learning and so are we. When is it a rationalisation though? Just because he shares something with us, doesn't make everything we do with that information kind or loving in return as you allude to as well (although to some it does). That was my main point and interest in knowing how others felt and what they believed. Just because something is a new societal norm, doesn't make it kind or loving, even though it may now be perfectly acceptable. The examples from life today on this are endless. Just because we do things in the name of love, doesn't necessarily make our actions loving. Translate that to the context of Adam and it can become, "I'm so fascinated with you that .... I can sometimes lose sight of your humanity. |
