Watching Adam in action today was a thing of beauty. As Hoppers said, he played that DJ like a fiddle. First using the RT of the DJ's douche-y tweet to draw attention not only to the nail polish issue but also to the DJ's lame comment. (And I'm of the opinion, based on the guy's subsequent tweets, that he was not making thoughtful social commentary, but making fun of Adam.) Adam knew his RT would get his fanbase mobilized, and he let that gather steam for a while, in the meantime tweeting a couple of astute comments about the gender "confusion" issue. Then he tweets the DJ, basically ascribing the guy a praise-worthy motive (which is BS, cuz that wasn't the guy's intention and Adam knew it, lol), and at the same time calling off the fans. Not only did the DJ get totally played, but amazingly, he was left feeling good feelings about Adam. Brilliant. Also gotta point out that Adam wrangled his fans pretty darn well, too. Stirred 'em up in support of him, and then called them back when the point was made. And we were left feeling even more good feelings about Adam. Just as brilliant. Smart smart smart. Love him! And I totally agree with Rabbitrabbit. I like to always start from a place of assuming that people want to do the right thing, and are open to a civilized conversation. If you start with insults and name-calling, you've lost before you ever had a chance to change someone's mind. I just really don't care much for the image this invokes... that of Adam puppetmaster and his fans the puppets. Adam never strikes me as a manipulative person but seeing this description of the event in question that's exactly what comes to mind. IF he thought the guy was being offensive and he RTd his comment to "mobilize" his fans to action that's pretty shitty. Instead of saying HIMSELF DUDE WTF? he let his fans do his dirty work for him??? is that really what we think he did?? and then when things got hot he gives the guy a pat on the back and looks like the reasonable "good guy" who called his BSC fans off.... God, that leaves a really sour taste in my mouth and I don't even believe that's how it went down but the reality that some of his fans not only think that's what he did but APPLAUD him for doing it..... wow... that's beyond my realm of comprehension..for real..... {Q3 comment: part of this comment deleted.}peace, love and glitter everyone <3

I agree with wonderstruck and chunkeymonkey that a pile on without finesse and without leaving the original poster a face-saving out or ability to backtrack gracefully while leaving their ego relatively intact, just engenders bad feeling. I thought the original tweet could be interpreted as: a) toenail painting led to Adam being gay and "flamboyant" b) Adam's mom let him dress up/play w/ makeup as a kid for fun (which she did), and look, he still paints his toenails! tee hee!(nothing about his sexuality or gender identity implied) c) or the ironic eyeroll interpretation based on the original article. Reading the guys feed didn't offer a lot of clues as he was tweeting DragRace contestants in a friendly way, but also admitted to intending to stir things up with his tweets. But assuming b) or as Adam did, tweeting that he was just opening a discussion, allowed him to have a really positive view of Adam, and fans who later approached him positively got him to agree to some Adam spins the next day. Not saying we shouldn't use fandom power, we totally should, but use it in a smart, strategic way to get people on your side and allow them to change their tune gracefully. I try to be a ninja, not a boxer. BTW: Some of the most negative tweets (the @cxxx one copied) were intended for the other DJ Brad Walsh was fighting with. That tweeter apologized to the first DJ after she realized her mistake. That raises the question, what if the person is clearly homophobic and digging in? The second DJ complaining about being persecuted for being homophobic hid their twitter after intense back and forths with people. Does that change his mind? No, most likely he is more entrenched then ever. Could his mind have been opened a bit with a less passionate but still logical approach by some of his responders? Dunno. IMO,sometimes by stating your opinion you can change people's mind, sometimes you can't BUT it is essential to not let BS go unchallenged (whether out of fear or politeness). (which I think you've just said in your articulate post :

Ah, but I don't see what Adam did as manipulation of the fans at all. I see it as Adam knowing his fans and trusting them to have his back, and emphasize a point he wants to make. It's a relationship, with lots of give and take. The power of social media in action. JMHO and anyone's MMV as always, of course

However, I don't think there's anything sinister even if this is close to the way it went down. Rather than looking to kick the ass of some obscure dj, I would assume IF this happened that Adam felt moved to comment on a national debate (some may be unaware but this J Crew issue has been in the news for last few days). By RT a common, off-hand sort of remark - whether snotty or benignly stereotypical - Adam gets to highlight social attitudes and comment, asking people to question some assumptions. The DJ yells he's getting fan-hammered so Adam says - 'hey good debate' and eases the tension. And it IS a much needed discussion. (Next = those fucking Babies R Us stores! Fight the real evil!)

I think that if some peeps are going to give benefit of the doubt to the DJ then they also should give benefit of the doubt to Adam and his supposed motivation IMHO : ??? :D

Gold status is within reach... www.adamofficial.com/us/node/1968865 I'm confused. Isn't gold still 50,000 units? It's going to be months before it reaches that level.
