Susie Fierce said: BTW: Someone just told me on Twitter that Perez only raised $13K for his birthday effort. I'm very sad for the charity, which seemed like a great cause, but I think those stats speak volumes. PH may have a gazillion followers, but are they at all invested in him? Apparently not. . ITA: I remember when the Bieb announced his Charity Water drive soon after Adam. I had the feeling he thought he'd blow Adam right "out of the water" so to speak. I just checked and with 41 days left he has around $41,500. Poor BeiBei. It's respectable, but it ain't Adam. ;D The fact that many (most) of Bieber's fans are tweens w/o access to credit cards may have a bearing... Because we are so devoted *and* represent a wider age range, we've been financially willing and able to support Adam in many ways. Win. Win. That doesn't hold up - completely. During the DonorsChoose drive the "kiddies" at ONTD_AI won the whole thing. Most members were HS and college students. They got creative and raised the most money. We all benefited from the chat. Hope he will do another one for 1 million twitter followers

Sauli is from Finland, do you think he would be unused to cold weather ? Hahaha!! I was thinking the same thing with Katri's blog. She talked about the Grand Canyon being freezing. My first thought: Katri, you live in Finland, how cold can the desert be? And yes, the desert does get very cold at night, but "very cold," probably means 42F or so. If they weren't prepared for it, I understand, but that has nothing on the -4F range. Okay, I checked, it is getting as low as 32F (freezing) at the Grand Canyon these days. LOVED that radio show!! I had stream issues, but kind of got into a rhythm with it. I never knew about that studio acoustic version of "Crazy." OMG!!! They did say it was recorded in studio. They do not call it Northern Arizona for nothing -- low at the Grand Canyon was 28 degrees F last night. And it is very windy there year round. The Grand Canyon has a wide range of temperatures -- depending where you are. The North and South rims are always cold -- the bottom of the canyon is not. For example: Grand Canyon Average Temperatures Grand Canyon South Rim Weather: Month Average High Average Low Avg Precip (in) Jan 40.7 18.2 1.44 Feb 44.8 20.9 1.59 Mar 51.1 25.3 1.30 Apr 60.4 32.1 0.86 May 69.8 39.1 0.64 Jun 81.0 46.9 0.39 July 84.3 54.2 1.93 Aug 81.4 52.8 2.23 Sept 76.1 46.8 1.52 Oct 64.5 36.1 1.15 Nov 52.1 26.7 0.91 Dec 43.3 20.0 1.58 Grand Canyon North Rim Weather: Month Average High Average Low Avg Precip (in) Jan 37.0 16.0 3.17 Feb 39.0 18.0 3.22 Mar 44.0 21.0 2.63 Apr 53.0 29.0 1.73 May 62.0 34.0 1.17 Jun 73.0 40.0 0.86 July 77.0 46.0 1.93 Aug 75.0 45.0 2.85 Sept 69.0 39.0 1.99 Oct 59.0 31.0 1.38 Nov 46.0 24.0 1.48 Dec 40.0 20.0 2.83 Grand Canyon West Rim Weather: Month Average High Average Low Avg Precip (in) Jan 64.1 38.7 0.70 Feb 70.2 43.3 0.77 Mar 77.1 48.5 0.84 Apr 86.2 55.9 0.21 May 96.3 64.8 0.25 Jun 107.7 72.8 0.10 July 112.5 79.1 0.37 Aug 109.9 77.6 0.59 Sept 102.3 70.1 0.59 Oct 89.0 58.5 0.42 Nov 73.6 46.6 0.34 Dec 64.3 38.9 0.45 Grand Canyon Weather Inside the Gorge: Month Average High Average Low Avg Precip (in) Jan 55.5 36.0 0.67 Feb 62.9 40.2 0.74 Mar 71.0 46.1 0.80 Apr 82.6 54.8 0.48 May 91.3 62.4 0.37 Jun 101.4 71.0 0.37 July 106.3 76.8 0.83 Aug 102.6 74.0 1.59 Sept 97.6 68.1 0.81 Oct 85.8 58.4 0.68 Nov 67.7 44.8 0.39 Dec 56.9 36.3 0.71 Most people only go the the South Rim or the North Rim -- since they were in Vegas, I assume they were at the very cold North Rim.

I don't get it. Really now. She was born a motorcycle with no hands, useable by anyone who sits on her, willing to go which ever way they steer her? A machine with a person's brain? Born to be used? Please ride me? Can someone please explain this to me? Symbolic horror for women. Not enough rednecks or straight boys are following me maybe this will work? I was joking when I said I was a free bitch baby? Only my hair is free but I can't really use my hands to reach my head anyway. Interesting, isn't it? Obviously (like all art) totally subject to interpretation. My own is more based on the traditional symbolism of the motorcycle-- freedom, speed, a load roar, the open road, non-conformist, and a little scary and not for the faint of heart. Associated with rebels and people who buck authority. In the pic, no one is riding her, so presumably she sets her own course. Catch her if you can, LOL. And for those who would objectify the female form, she has removed her own. With... an object. Sleek lines and curves. Shiny and pretty. But also hard and cold. You can try to ride her, but her "arms" control the direction. Nothing about the picture implies female passivity, to me. Her expression is fierce, and she's coming at the viewer in an aggressive manner. I think it's kind of cool, actually, but I really don't connect with the message and it leaves me cold. JMHO, YMMV and all that Yes, can be read in so many different ways. I am always disturbed when I see a picture and the woman's hands are missing. In fairy tales the symbol of having no hands is very strong. Clara Pinkola Estes writes in depth about this in Women who Run with the Wolves. In one tale, The Handless Maiden, the devil asks a father to cut off his daughter's hands and only then will he be able to keep the devil away. www.surlalunefairytales.com/armlessmaiden/index.htmlIn other tales women cut off their own hands and then live their lives vicariously through powerful and creative men. Women cut off their hands for male acceptance, love, and protection. The only way for a woman to get their creative force back is to go into the woods by herself. I love Gaga. May I NEVER again see this brilliant, creative female without hands. I don't care how hard, shiny or fast she is. *shakes it off* Wait, don't they call motorcycles penis extensions? Is Gaga now a penis extender? hmmm. *it ain't that deep* Picture from jungcurrents.com/amplification-of-the-handless-maiden/

OT....I just want to say I am so envious of Atopians and anyone who can see music in colors! What a dimension that must add to performances of really great talents like Adam!! I would love to hear an Adam concert broken down into the colors the person sees with each song. "Synesthete" (I don't know if I spelled that right) really fascinates me and I'd love to find a good book on it. Well, be careful for what you wish for. I said something about being jealous of that ability to Angelina and she reminded me that not all music, not all sound looks as beautiful as Adam's voice. "not all sounds are pleasant and they do impact on me very badly sometimes - the noise of the audience at Adam's concert in New Orleans, for example, totally freaked me out and left me reeling! And yup, some sounds do cause nausea and splitting headaches and some very spikey shapes sometimes hurt me almost physically. And because I can't turn it off, it impacts on other necessary activities, like sleeping!!! Haha! Nightmare when I still used to have to travel a lot for singing!!!" I think I will be content with the beautiful descriptions and depictions of others with synesthesia. Cassie, I have a dear friend who is clairvoyant. She sees everything. At one point in her life it almost drove her bonkers. The stimulation of it was too much. She went to a special psychic institute where she learned how to use her gift and how to 'turn it off' when she was focused elsewhere. I cannot imagine the sensory overload of all that color all the time. And as Angelina said, it is not always a pleasant experience. I wish her well.

Hmmm, seeing sound likes like sensory overload, to me. I think it would drive me crazy. People with this ability see all sound, right? If it was just music, it'd be cool (maybe.) But do I want to see the sound of a car, or that damn noisy trash truck? Umm, no! What about watching TV or going to movies?? It actually sounds like something that would literally drive me insane.

Oooh, this is a new one to me. Fascinating because it is basically Adam's vocals up front and personal. The only instrumentation is a bass line (electronic keyboard?) and a drum beat. And it sounds like basically a raw feed of the vocal. No reverb or special effects. Does anyone have more info on this? Adam messing around on his computer? A recording session? It's going on the iPod now. I think it was on his pre-Idol Facebook (at least that is what it is labeled in my iTunes). My impression was that it was just a demo recording--probably done himself, because it is low quality. Maybe someone else knows more. I'm not sure where I got it from, but I have that recording too. My favourite part is at the end, if you turn up the volume really loud, you hear someone (and I choose to believe it's Adam) say "That was better!" I love that recording because it is so very raw and rough. Like his voice isn't completely warmed up yet.
