I remember in some threads on other forums people actually doubted Adam can pull that 'Runnin' song off live... How hard is it for him to sing his low register like that live?
Like some of his old songs like Can't Let You Go & Pick You Up, they are both very hard to sing live too. And he never performed them. But we actually heard Adam sang like he sang the last part in CLYG in some live performances (i.e Miami jingle bell WWFM the ending notes). One or two live performances? No effin problem at all. Every night on tour? No way. Too demanding and unnecessary.
As for the low register parts in 'Runnin', never before heard he used his low register like that. I really think his voice definitely has changed (evolved) and even got wider range and better vocal control. IMO, he definitely can pull 'Runnin' off live. It is just a matter of how he choose to sing it. It might be very different from the CD version. We'll see. (But if he sings like he does in CD, I will be so thrilled )
I don't know why he never sang PYU live. I don't see/hear anything in it that is more difficult than other songs in his repertoire. Yes, there is that trick they did with the extended "one breath" phrasing on the studio recording, but it could easily be broken up into a couple of phrases without hurting the song.
CLYG is a monster in the original key. Not only does it go high, but it goes high with lyrics, which is more difficult to sing than an open vowel sound. I think he is capable of singing it live, but not as a regular feature. A one off, possibly.
Runnin' and his low register. I can only speak from personal experience here. I had a role in a musical that was meant for an alto, and I am a mezzo soprano. I worked on the songs and was able to access my low register; even developed some power in it. However, it required specific warm up exercises and relaxing techniques to do. If I had had to sing soprano, then switch during the show to the low alto range, then back again to soprano, not sure how well I could do it. Based on my experience, he COULD sing Runnin' as a single song, but, in the middle of a set when he has warmed up for the high notes, it might be difficult. But, Adam does difficult all the time. I don't put it beyond him.
I personally don't like PYU (CD version) that much. At one point I'm even kinda happy that he never performed it. To me it is a pop-punk-ish song which I don't think suits Adam at all (although he is very versatile) . But I could tell he was having so much fun singing it and he is also one of the song writers. Yes, speaking of vocal in this song, he did really god damn well. And yes I also think it is not that hard at all to sing it live. I think many people just think that it is that killer BRIDGE that is impossible to sing live in one breath as he SOUNDED on the CD. But on the other hand people are curious about and even wish he could do that part justice live cuz he does 'inhuman' things with his vocals from time to time singing live.
Yea, I think if Adam were to sing CLYG in live performance, he might have to lower the key for the max live effect. In that original CD version, it is already too insane and almost impossible for me to think that someday someone actually can sing fuckin lyrics in that crazy high range with full power. My jaw dropped dead on the floor when first time heard it. But after actually heard he sang lyrics in that high range live on YT ( thought not for that long), I definitely believe he can sing it live.
Did he ever shift his registers between that low and that high back and forth in one song similar to what he does in 'Runnin' when singing live? But one thing for sure is he never went this low let alone sounded this rich. I am really dying and wanting to hear him sing his low register like this LIVE!
(BTW,Thank you for sharing your story. )
Another song is SFW, I know he sang it a hunderd times here and there already. What never ceases to thrill me is (the CD version) when he goes from "never gonna 'til we reach the top" to "a new boy's calling it tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime !!!"
Oh, my god... that vocal jump and power..every time I just get goosebumps but very excited. I still think it is one of the coolest parts he ever did in a song. However, in live. He handled it very differently. I never find a live version in that part is cooler than in the CD version. So this song is the ONLY song in the FYE album I like the CD version better than any of his live performances.
