BTW I do like her voice and think she's super talented!! That song is pretty much impossible to sing for anyone though She's got the gut to do it and it worked for audiences What can I say I'm a vocal snob :-[

I'm bringing this here, since I think it's really interesting and maybe some of our experts can muse on it. Yesterday, some people said in the main thread that they didn't enjoy Adam's live voice because the way they heard it he sounded like a chipmunk. It catched my attention, because I haven't heard but wonderful things about Adam's live voice. Someone linked a DDD thread where they had been talking about it. I put together some of the comments in there from someone who was trying to explain why that happened (it's a conversation between two members): So it seems to be a sound issue, something to do with Adam's voice being difficult to mix. What do you think of that explanation? (Link to the DDD thread: www.digitaldreamdoor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=568&hilit=Adam+Lambert)

Thanks albiku. I think this makes a lot of sense. And honestly I think this is the legit explanation. Those layers and layers of harmonics in his voice make his voice sounds full, rich and powerful live. But if some of those harmonics are lost, then his voice will not sound 'full' and 'rich'. I think those harmonics are there as long as he sings. Unless he intentionally only produces high harmonics which I don't think it is the case. The sound system will be perfect in Finland, you will hear the angelic voice for sure

You know, when I read the comment about the ring in his voice (I think it's the last one I quoted) I actually thought: "Hey, sounds like Cassie!!!" But I didn't even imagine it would be you for real!!! :4OMG: :4OMG: :4OMG:

Hi. This is going to be about the helium effect. I have only been to 2 shows. The first was Dec 16 at Club Nokia with my sister. I was so excited & talked to several of the people around us while waiting for the show to start. Most had been to several shows. Then the show started. Adam was at the top of the stairs in his purple fringe coat & starting that first medley of songs. And it sounded like helium to me. Of course I couldn't describe the sound then...but reading about it here a few days ago...yes, that is what I heard. I was so stunned. I turned to one of the gals who had been to many of the shows & said what is with his voice?? She said..That's how he sounds, isn't it wonderful? I couldn't imagine she was hearing what I heard. Then I got wrapped up in Adam & I really can't remember if it got better, but I know I soon forgot about it. Now I know what to do next time...wear those earplugs.

How you people think of Florence's vocals in this performance ? I haven't read any other comments yet. I can see her appeal, but for me there are several things about this performance, and any other time I've heard her, that rub me the wrong way. One is the shotgun vibrato, which I dislike no matter who sings with it. Sometimes Adam verges on too quick with his, but not this fast. She reminds me of Grace Slick. The other is that she cannot switch from her chest voice to head voice with any smoothing. It just feels jerky going from the loud belt and then flipping to the head voice on the high notes. The last thing is that there is a bit of "pitchiness dawg."

The last thing is that there is a bit of "pitchiness dawg." Yup. On all points. The flips from chest to head are quite jarring. Perhaps that is the sound she is going for? Another problem I have is that I cannot understand the words. For the first 30 seconds I thought maybe she was singing in Gaelic or something? I understood perhaps a dozen words in the part of the video I watched. Sorry. Not my cuppa. As to giving her props for having the guts to go for such a difficult song... that's not considered relevant in the music culture I grew up in. In fact, just the opposite. It was better to play or sing an easier song flawlessly than to screw up a song that was beyond your ability. At auditions no one got points for "trying," only for "doing." Of course, if you are Danny Gokey singing "Scream On" on Idol, the judges give you A++++ for effort. If anyone wants proof that the judging on Idol does not nearly approximate judging in real life auditions, all they need do is listen to that song and the accompanying feedback.

lol Yeah. That Dream On scream was... Not gonna listen to that Gokey video you posted, Cassie, because I watched the performance once and it was enough.
