Lance Bass Reveals Perez Hilton Bullied Him Into Coming Out: “I Had 24 Hours To Decide”
February 6, 2015 ● by Matthew Tharrett  Lance Bass is on top of the world this week and Perez Hilton is at the very bottom, but things very different back in 2006 when Bass was planning to come out publicly. In a new interview with Attitude magazine, for an issue which Bass and his husband Michael Turchin appear on the cover, the 35-year-old newlywed opens up about being forced out of the closet by bloggers like Perez Hilton, who at that time was at his most vitriolic point. “Two years before I came out I was really bullied on the Internet by bloggers, that’s when Perez Hilton just started and was just really malicious against me,” he recalled. The former ‘N Sync star has previously said he stayed in the closet to help protect the band. “So, because of the bloggers like him hounding me, all the other magazines started calling me and saying, ‘Look, we know you’re gay, you can write the story with or without us, but we have to write it,’ I decided to go with People and I think they did a great job,” he said. “I had 24 hours to decide if I was going to come out or not, and within 24 hours it was on the stands.” A documentary chronicling Bass and Turchin’s wedding — the first televised event featuring a celebrity same-sex wedding — premiered on the E! network this week and received nothing but the highest praises. Hilton, on the other hand, was dubbed “The Most Hated Man In Britain” this week after a messy season of playing the narcissistic villain on Celebrity Big Brother. His fellow houseguest Michelle Visage even called the blogger “an embarrassment,” claiming his hateful behavior in the house had set the LGBT community back half a century.Isn’t karma a funny thing? |
