Are you saying that the partying with friends part doesn't seem to fit the idea that everyone is supposed to be spread? I have a slightly different interpretation. In spite of the fact that the video is full of his friends and they are all partying and dancing. None of them seem to be interacting with each other. They are all quite separate really even when they are physically close and Adam never seems to see them even when they are right near him so it gives me the impression of disconnectedness or even perhaps that they are only really there in his dream and so not able to connect with him. To me it fits in perfectly with the meaning of the song. Yes, I was saying that, I guess because most of his videos featured parties with professional dancers, so I had a IIHY deja-vu that depressed me so much it did not let me look deeper like you did. Of course your interpretation is totally valid. Esp. at 30% speed, it feels very different  My interpretation is similar to rihannsu. It's not a dance party. All the dancers all memories of past relationships. They are members of the community of the GhostTown that is his heart. |

Couldn't resist to stick my wooden spoon in this stew- 
Storyline (to me), which would coincide with lyrics, would be a post apocalyptic state where the impious remained in an inevitable state of deathly haunting and ecstatic yet empty celebration-which would be brilliant as a theme in the sequel of "This Is The End" movie, but
then again it could mean a million things...thus it is pure art.

GT is 191 in US iTunes, 53 in Canada, TOH is up from 156 to 142 in US, 147 in Canada GT has moved up more than 20 spots since this morning! |

I guess I'll need to join the group of the underwhelmed. I was just starting college when MTV was in its infancy and watched the handful of videos they showed in the early days obsessively. I loved the art form up until around the early 2000s when Hype Williams was really becoming a known director. Because MTV stopped playing videos and I had a kid and basically stopped listening to music for ten years and there was no real outlet for these little music commercials until YouTube, I didn't pay attention to them, except to note the art form seemed to have gone the way of vinyl album covers when CDs became the new format. Videos looked to my eye unimaginative and cliche. Like all that artistic expression and growth of the previous several decades didn't even happen. But then Bad Romance came out and I was blown away. It finally seemed to pick up where videos were supposed to be evolving. I don't expect Adam to get a budget like Gaga elicits, but this video kind of seems a bit like a throwaway --and Adam is lucky to have very skinny and good-looking and talented friends (not sure what he means by "diverse" tho, lol. These are all some seriously beautiful people!) I also think this is exactly what he should be doing to attract a younger audience. I really don't want to go to another Adam tour and look around and see a lot of women that look like me (the refreshing thing about Queen was there were more old men too, lol). And he does get truly younger audiences in UK, Australia, Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia--everywhere but U.S. Perhaps this is because of the American Idol stigma--which thankfully is going away for many different reasons. The gay thing didn't help and thankfully that is going away too.
So, not bowled over but I think it's the right move for his career. Just expecting more visually with the director attached. It looks like a series of beautiful B&W stills in a photographers' portfolio. Perhaps that's the point. Anything OTT would be a wrong move, and prolly, and unfairly, any interaction with another person in the video would be a mistake too (look how the media gleaned the big story from a casual reference by Adam to having "been" with closeted gay celebs--maybe he just means at a club where they were free to express themselves--not "been" been; who knows, but it didn't merit the media attention it got).

NGL, I'm having difficulty with the negativity over the MV. I sometimes think that Adam's fans have expectations for him that are unreachable. I have come to the conclusion that Adam will never please all his fans with any choice he makes so he should just do whatever the hell he likes. Yes! Agree! Rihannsu! Your explanation of how Adam doesn't "see" anyone is perfect! Exactly what I was thinking! It is ALL a dream!  |

Hmmm... Interesting and I kind of overlooked that! I was a bit shocked on the first watch because it was so not what I was expected, but I like it and every time I look, I see new things.

Krypto and soonish, to me the "unfinished" look of the white backdrop/green screen is somehow connecting to the essence of "Hollywood", where everything is an illusion with nothing more than that white sheet of emptiness in its essence...
(haha...another dozen views and I'll see something else probably...revelations for everyone...fun to share here!)
