I was searching and hoping to see it online, but I I am not successful...it is small enough that I can type it up. =========================================================== AL - TOH WB * * * Singer's third LP is laced with big hooks, over-the-top energy ----------- AL is so great at glam-rock theatrics that he toured the world as Queen's frontman last year. On his third LP, though, the onetime American Idol runner-up channels the softer corners of his impressive vocal range over radio-friendly deep-house beats (check the excellent "Ghost Town"). Lambert is still larger-than-life on tracks like the power ballad "There I Said It," where he sings the silly line "I'm a grown-ass man" with utter conviction, and the pop-rock highlight "Lucy" ignites with a guest appearance from Brian May. Even when the lyrics verge on ridiculousness (on the Tove Lo-featurning 'Rumors," Lambert denounces "haterade"), he's one of the biggest personalities in pop. Brittany Spanos. Not so bad! Let's just ignore it!!

I don't know what this says about me, lol, but I actually think the songs we've heard thus far off of TOH have deeper, more meaningful lyrics than the majority of the songs on the radio and even much of Trespassing. With the exception of a couple songs (Runnin', Take Back), I feel that a lot of Trespassing is more lyrically simplistic than TOH seems to be. I happen to like the velcro line; it's descriptive and something with which everyone can identify. I think the RS review was good considering it doesn't seem that the reviewer gets into pop music as a whole. Who knows what she would have given Trespassing; this may actually be high praise from her.

Even though Rolling Stone officially rates on a 5-point scale, in practice it really only seems to be a 4-point scale because so few albums are given 5 stars in the publication. From what I've heard of TOH, it deserves a better rating, and certainly at least a 3.5 in comparison to other albums reviewed. But the actual content of the RS review sounds positive, and 3 stars is not low enough to discourage anyone curious from checking out the CD, giving a listen and judging for themselves. NOW, folks staying off their website with their overprotective comments, that would actually be useful! I agree. If anyone comments online on this (or any other similarly rated) review, I hope they'll just reinforce the positive stuff the reviewer wrote and not rail against her opinion but just state their own, emphasizing the things they love about the songs and Adam's voice and the aspects the reviewer liked. If so, if someone who's not a fan, or on the fence, bothers to read the comments, they might even come away thinking the reviewer praised the album effusively. Perception counts for a lot.

I'm definitely not a computer savvy person (!!) but I can do a hack job of it, and because I lurve you Seoulmate and no one had answered your call yet, I gave it a try: It's a start until someone with actual skeelz comes along, which, knowing this fandom, will happen in about 6 seconds. (I thought he looked suitably gloomier against a dark background 8-)) Just got back and saw your post midwifespal! But, I don't see any Adam pic at all! I just see a big blank white box with this little thing in one corner---> I even refreshed the page a couple of times, but nothing showed up!

Graciejane, my thoughts exactly. I don't think I'll ever get used to the Velcro line. Don't have a problem with that review. I love the Velcro line -- although I might never get used to the moo. #lovethemoo

I just see a big blank white box with this little thing in one corner---> I even refreshed the page a couple of times, but nothing showed up! Oops, that's embarrassing! I see it bright and clear on my screen still. I told you I wasn't computer savvy, lol! Lemme try again! Did that one show up? Sorry folks for the general ineptitude. ETA: and now I see tinafea's cleverly made the banner photo for tomorrow's thread a much better version of the photo with the words edited out! LOLOL I suck! Also, if this one doesn't show up, obviously I give up, ha ha! ps--IMO saying Adam sang the "silly" line "I'm a grown-ass man" with utter conviction is a total compliment, and in a way neatly summarizes one of the things that's so very charming about Adam, and one of the things I love most about him. Hell, that's why he made such a success of the "silly" show American Idol--the way he sold it with conviction. That's certainly why I loved watching him every week.

I'm late because I am out of town and away from my computer but I want to thank Betty for the delicious strawberry cake this morning. I get my official birthday cake tomorrow but the virtual one will tide me over.
So many wonderful things going on in Adam world, it is an unfortunate time to be away. I will have lots of great stuff to listen to when I get back though.
