Midwifespal I really appreciated your post. And to tie back to Queen, Kanye did bring ballet to the masses with his "Runaway" song which is terrific.
Nice photos. I guess they are keeping to the black & white theme.
People were talking about Tori Kelly? Isn't she a Max Martin project? And with the Weeknd Martin seems to be non-stop.
OT: saw that both Tove Lo and The Darkness (separately) will be performing in Philly in Oct to a 1000 seat venue. Adam could do that too with TOH but it would be the same 1000 fans who fly around for him and have been with him since GNT.

Tastes vary. But Kanye regularly takes artistic risks like that, and he should be (and generally is) recognized for that, imo. Sometimes, a moment is more about the crowd (which was happily singing along to BR and cheering enthusiastically) than about the performer. And to me, watching the brief clip in that Kanye/Adam BR mashup posted above (which is all I've seen of Kanye's performance), there was something really new to me about Kanye's take, that revealed a song I've heard hundreds and hundreds of times in a new, and moving, and kind of heartbreaking light: to see an African American man singing those tragic opening lyrics, given current situation in America, and the poverty-race intersection, and the violence and the fear, and the awful gun situation in this country, and the poisonous political climate, and the giant immoral racist shit-storm (pardon me) that is our criminal justice system. We want Adam treated with respect, we want him to feel free to take risks and be larger-than-life at times, we admire him for speaking freely and intelligently about the world, and I hope we can accord the same respect to other artists who have earned it, and who have faced similar kinds of prejudice. With all due respect to midwifespal and Kanye - butchering a classic song (If yer gonna sing it, at least learn the words!) is more than an "artistic risk." It's a misstep that deserves to be called out as such. My opinion - you're entitled to yours. I like Kanye personally and think he's very good at what he does within his genre. And I honestly didn't connect his take on Bo Rhap with commentary on racism and the criminal justice system, though others' mileage and perspectives may vary. But I gotta defend Adam's (and Rufus's) take, that Kanye's version of Bo Rhap shouldn't become part of his career highlight reel. If AFL and Roger Taylor's son don't have the right to dislike it, then who does?

I know nothing about rap music or the celebrities who perform it. It irritates me so much I avoid it so I can make no comment about the quality of different rappers. However, I DO know Bohemian Rhapsody. Kanye butchered it. Maybe his delivery style is perfect for rap, and if he had reenvisioned Bo Rhap as a Bo Rap version, it may have been genius to rap aficionados. But to attempt to perform it in its original form? Not smart. Not enjoyable. Just NOT.
I think Rosanne Barr, in her day, was a very funny comedian. Her TV show was not my taste, but, I know many people in the field respected her. I have no idea why she ever accepted the offer to sing the National Anthem for a sporting event. She was a comedian, not a singer. Her rendition was not only horrendous, but also disrespectful. Should I have gone easy on her out of respect for her talent as a comedian? I don't think so.
IMO, Kanye's performance of Bohemian Rhapsody was akin to Barr's version of the National Anthem. Terrible, and disrespectful to the rock fans at Glastonbury. I see nothing wrong or cruel with saying that.

midwifespal - interesting but I'm afraid you've over-intellectualized that horrific performance - there was nothing redeeming about it imo. I strongly doubt he was making any "police violence in the USA" point at a festival in the UK. I wonder if his "greatest rock singer" statement was an attempt to mock the petition but I know his attempt at singing was totally disrespectful to the song and to the audience...

And I really don't think race was a part of anyone's dislike here for Kanye's performance.
