am no anthropologist, but it seems to be a trait among humans to maintain and pursue feuds and enemies for a long time. Extending thru centuries in some cases. I know some southerners still haven't forgiven the northerners for winning the Civil War (or, as the southerners say, "the war between the states") 150 years later. I have read that the animosity in the middle east actually goes back thousands of years. Go figure. Read more: www.adamtopia.com/index.cgi?board=daily&action=display&thread=330&page=26#ixzz1NHGqZlxM PART OF CASSIE'S POST FROM LAST NIGHT. I'm in PA for family stuff, prom, graduations, etc, etc so have to catch Adam time when I can. Just a comment on Cassie's post about holding grudges. First of all, let me say I love people in the South. My son's been there since he went to college at Alabama and over the last 20 years I've had nothing but great experiences with them... Bamafan is what 95% of the people are like. I actually left (lasted 18 months) after helping my son establish his company there in 2003 because it was so hard to be as nice as they were and not be my smart ass self. Having said that, my story is about moving to SC in 1991. I went to work for the largest civilian employer there, the Air Force was #1 at the time, and when we had orientation and they were explaining the paid holidays, I noticed that Memorial Day was not one of them. When I asked about it, I was told with a smile, that until 3 years prior they had gotten Confederate Memorial Day off, but once they were forced to stop celebrating that, they just ignore the whole holiday. A year or two later a friend of mine moved down from Pgh and became HR Director and Memorial Day was instituted as a holiday for us. not sure if other companies have followed. Even the kids did not get off school. Federal and banking was impacted, but no state or local services. We'll see how long the Adam grudge lasts - probably until the end of AI is my guess.

This is really interesting, and I will have to go back and check later for the comments on this article. I am not familiar with "Pop & Hiss (?)" But this seems to validate the "stigma" of AI, and from being a contestant on that show, that we have all debated regarding Adam. Seems like a shame that this attitude prevails, because, like it or not, AI is a huge show, one of the most popular on American TV, and the finale will get around 25 MILLION viewers in the US, and who knows how many more around the world. I don't think it would be embarrassing for any band to perform on that show. I will be watching tomorrow night just to see Adam and MyS*&@^#r. Well it seems that a lot of the old guard bands have this stuck up attitude towards AI, but come on, if this show was around when they were busting their balls to make it they woulda jumped on it. At least 50 % of them would I'm sure. But now that they made it they seem to take on a holier then thou attitude about the whole thing which sucks, especially the ones who go on the show to pimp their shit--tv, song, movie--and then still stick their nose up at it. Gimme a break. It's not a perfect show by any means but don't begrudge the contestants--for the most part they are people who are talented and hungry to make it and have been working to make it happen but not getting anywhere. Well, for the most part. Teenage country bots excluded. LOL ITA! I have my own (rather strong) opinions about AI but the holier than thou attitude drives me nuts - not just regarding AI but in general, too.

I may or may not have stared at today's banner pic for five solid minutes. Time well spent. :D Without a doubt. I have a totally random question. Does this painting remind you of Adam? I know it's not good likeness, but would you think of Adam if you happened upon it? No. I thought it was Eartha Kitt

And the LA Times covers Idol constantly, so this Pop & Hiss thing is like working both sides of the street. I mean, we snark the hell out of it, but I don't begrudge one performer for going on their and doing everything they can to sell their work and I totally believe if these rock gods had a similar platform in their day, they'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm sure they entered many a Battle of the Bands competition for radio stations. This is the same thing on a much larger scale. This larger scale brings with it an insane amount of commercialism, but that's because it's being seeing by 25 million people. (Doesn't take a marketing mastermind to figure that out.) And Bono and The Edge have an insanely expensive musical to save that they've worked on for years; they've got to pull out all the stops. I also thought of Sutan when I saw that painting on my phone last night. I can see Adam hair, Sutan coloring and physical manner ... not sure about the face.

And one could argue that U2 using their music in a Broadway play is ..well...not really selling out per say, but they are going a very commercial route here--Spiderman--to make money off their music. It's as "commercial" in my opnion as playing on Idol, except the risk of someone plunging to their death is considerably lower. LMAO.And in the end, artistry aside, every band or musician wants to make money off their music so come on. This "Idol is so commercial and I am a bleeding heart artiste" mentality is crap. Ok done ranting now lol

I just posted an article on the young gay man who gave up army information and initiated Wikileaks, fyi...in the social action thread. www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/television/john-doyle/the-global-impact-of-a-young-gay-soldiers-stress/article2032026/Q3 Is it OK to post the original to let others know what is going on elsewhere? Q3 comment: If it is news related to Adam post it here. Hard to see the connection between this article and Adam but it is appropriate in the Social Action section.
A non-Adam news piece could be posted here if the poster makes a comment that connects it in a real way to Adam.

I have a totally random question. Does this painting remind you of Adam? I know it's not good likeness, but would you think of Adam if you happened upon it? Jamie--thanks for posting this, I LOVE Egon Schiele. I went to a exhibition on him a few years ago in NYC, and was completely blown away, it was spectacular. And yes, very very sad he died so young. While I agree the face is different, there are some things that remind me of Adam about him. There's certainly something androgynous in a lot of his work, and in his many many self portraits, of which the above is one. (For what it's worth, pretty sure Schiele was straight.) And while it's true his paintings are frequently grotesque, they are also very erotic, and I like that he doesn't shy away from the intersection of sexy and dirty--he doesn't clean up sex, and that in a way reminds me of Adam too. There's something very Byronically dark and bright about him (see my signature below). Plus, he was imprisoned on pornography charges for his art (AMAs, anyone? kidding. kinda.) Anway, thanks for bringing Schiele here--I hadn't thought of him in a while. Does this one remind you more of our boy, folks? ETA: I DO hope Adam never gets THAT skinny, sheesh!
