Ever wonder what detail labels and stations have? I found this which might be interesting. Seems a bit different than what we said? Mediabase Recurrent RulesThe Mediabase Recurrent rules vary my format, as defined below: Songs that are down in plays for three consecutive weeks and below No. 1 are moved to Recurrent. Country _______________________________________________ Songs that are down in plays for three consecutive weeks and below No. 15 are moved to Recurrent. Active Rock AC Hot AC Smooth Jazz Triple A Urban AC ________________________________________________ Songs that are down in plays for three consecutive weeks and below No. 25 are moved to Recurrent. Alternative CHR/Pop CHR/Rythmic Rock Urban Is it still the case that a song has to be in the top 40 to go recurrent? Seems it can muck around a long time on the charts between 41 and 50 without disappearing and hopefully catch on. That might happen to ALN which could continue to drop spins but with songs dropping above, still remain on the chart. |

Jablea, those recurrent rules are old. There is also an article there with the new ones, and the date it was updated. I will post it and the link when i get home. Out shopping.  ETA: Here you go! Revised in 2012. Mediabase Revises Recurrent Rules

Recuurent Revisions
MEDIABASE has changed its recurrent rules. effective APRIL 1st, 2012 with the airplay week of MARCH 25th-31st.
For all formats except Country and AC: Songs below No. 10 are removed from the chart after 20 weeks provided they have peaked in the Top 10. If a song has not peaked in the Top 10, it must be down in spins for two consecutive weeks and have been on the chart over 20 weeks.
For AC: Songs below No. 5 are also removed after 40 weeks and/or songs below No. 10 are removed from the chart after 20 weeks
There are no changes to the Country chart.
Songs trending down in spins and points for three consecutive weeks below #1 are removed.

Theosgma, you mean purged, not recurrent. A song has to have once been in Top 40 to get purged. That means an official Sunday Published Top 40, not just there on any day and then out.
Yes, a song can muck around in 50 to 41 for a long time. Remember Sia's new song last month?
Guessing that ALN will be 42 after tomorrow's updates. Fetty is falling enough but nothing is coming up to take its place. The 2 recurrents will pull it back into #40. This song has 9 lives! Would love to see the panel make a judgement call and pull it anyway.

According to someone on Pulse ALN was in the top 1500 on iTunes at some point yesterday but it's not there this morning.

I am beginning to think it is a blessing ALN did not get into the top 40. If it continues to muck around just below where it is safe from purging for another week or two and: 1) keeps building on HAC 2) Adam is back and more buzz, sightings, interviews 3) hopefully more tour advertising and buzz from POP radio stations who conceivably might spin the song if they are giving away tickets (yes, dripping with sarcasm)
then, it just might decide to climb more in February

As a matter of fact, this morning I thought, that might have been WBR's strategy all along. (From IGs from Kenny Ortega, looks like the RHPS is filming in Toronto. So maybe no TV promo here for Adam until after Dubai. ) Today's Top 40 numbers are the bad news. But HAC! Yay! It is moving there on its own! Here's the good news! ALN will be #42 on tonight's Published Chart on Top 40. It will be #25 on HAC! WOOT! BTW, it so could have made 40 tonight if it had not "bled" all week! :( Analysis for upcoming week: Hook and Troye will pass early in the week. But next Sunday there are between 2-6 songs saying bye bye! 2 for sure = XAmb & Fetty (yes, its 9 lives will finally be up!) Excellent chance of 2 more = 4 gon, Meghan and Halsey Strong possibility Gwen is starting a fast nosedive = 5 gone If Daya drops below 10 (but probably not) she goes recurrent. But that would = 6 songs gone! (I don't want to jinx Adam, but I am watching Andy's numbers closely too.) |
