Bringing this over from last night because I hadn't thought about it until Mszue posted it but she could be onto something! It was such a strange thing to end his night with, especially after the James tweets. I expect Adam was doing a lot more than simply creating a diversion by mentioning 'who's afraid of Virginia Woolfe'....the film was one big lesson in snark and put down...it was verbal candy...wikipaedia describes it : ) The play involves the two couples playing "games," which are savage verbal attacks against one or two of the others at the party. These games are referred to with sarcastically alliterative names: "Humiliate the Host", "Get the Guests", "Hump the Hostess", and "Bringing Up Baby". Not likely that he was really watching this on the plane...though possible...;-) |

Don't want to be perceived as another beating that poor, dead horse, but.... 1. I am over the asperger's syndrome defense. I have worked all my professional life with people who have a disability. Making accommodations is one thing; making excuses is another. In the real world it comes down to "can you do the job?" When trying to get employment for someone with disabilities, that is where the focus needs to be. Find the right job, the right fit, a job for which there is a solid demand, and then emphasize the ability, not the disability. Can James Durbin DO THE JOB he is aiming for? So far, I have to say, "No." Vocally, he is still too inconsistent, be it with heavy metal or another genre. But, setting that aside, is it a marketable job? Again, I have to say "No." So, even if accommodations are made for the asperger's, and handlers work to smooth things over, coach Durbin on interactions, and hold his hand, there is still a basic disconnect. With or without aspergers, Durbin needs to face the business realities. 2. The Idol machine has plenty of industry experts, producers, coaches, etc to work with the contestants coming off Idol. The powers that be invested a lot in JD during the season and have every reason to keep working with him to produce a marketable product. Therefore, JD has PLENTY of advice from experts. Why did he take to twitter and target a "pop/electro" former Idol turned successful star for advice? I'm not drinking this kool-aid. This was not about needed advice, this was about trying to stir up some attention and visibility. Real life can be a brutal challenge for people who are disabled, or differently abled. Still, real life is where they ultimately have to succeed. And they need the tools, the craft, the ability to do what they set as a goal for themselves. They also need to use the advice of the experts they have available. JD already has that advice, and doesn't need Adam to tell him what he has already been told. IMO, YMMV, EIEIO. EIEIO!!!!!
