I saw this link in the Twitter list below to a petition from change.org--- Electoral College: Make Hillary Clinton President on December 19. Please read the information on the page and read the letter to the electors, accessible from the link at the bottom of the page. Please sign, and pass it on, if you agree. ETA: After I signed the petition, I read several articles explaining why it won't work or shouldn't work. I would've signed even if I'd read them beforehand. I'll protest any way that I can.

I agree with everything Bamafan said. As for Donald HeWhoCannot amed being qualified, no he has never held public office, but I view that as a good thing he comes in with a clean slate owing nothing to any of the Washington insiders. He will appoint experienced qualified people to his cabinet who will provide him with the information he needs to make a decision. He is a smart energetic man who isn't afraid to make a decision and I believe he wants to make changes that will help all American's prosper. As far as being a racist, I view Obama as the most racist President we have had in modern history. He has left this Country in a racially divided turmoil. I am a college educated white woman and business owner. Obama has made owning a small business very difficult with all of his heavy handed regulations and let's not forget the excessive cost of Obamacare. I had thirteen employees and during the Obama years I have had to terminate five of them. When you own a small business your employees become family and laying someone off is like picking which child you would like to see go. All of this while I see public sector workers getting raises and not missing a beat. Frankly I'm ready to have someone in office who wants to grow all of the economy not just the government. You are not the first person I have seen make this statement, but as another college educated white woman, I really don't understand it. I don't understand how he can be personally responsible for racial tensions that exist because of our history and our imperfect institutions. As a personal aside, my older son, who is white (and gay), was beaten by Chicago police officers as he was taking a walk down the street one evening, apparently because he looked like someone they were looking for in connection with a robbery. So I empathize completely with mothers who must worry about their black sons every time they leave the house. I did not mean to get so involved in the conversation here, but I guess we all have some need to vent. I am trying to control my anger over the way certain things have gone, and I do hope for people to be civil and work together for the good of everyone.

bama, you know I love you. As I said, I live in Texas and I am never shocked or heartbroken when a Republican wins but in all honesty, I don't consider HeWhoCannot amed a Republican. He is not like the fiscal and social conservatives that I am surrounded by who I believe are at least honest about what they stand for. How do his supporters know that the stupid things he said are not what he believes and if they are not what he believes, is that not lying. You said he wants to fix things and get things done but which things of all the many promises he made does he really care about fixing. What in his life has he ever done that would make anyone think that he cares about anyone or anything but himself. He did what he set out to do, he won. He won despite being a xenophobic, mysogynistic bully something that is clear in his history. He won by stoking anger and fear and as someone who has a child who is gender dysphoric that frightens me. HeWhoCannot amed's world is ugly and perhaps that's why he needs to cover it up with so much gold. As for his first hundred days, if anyone expects HeWhoCannot amed to act differently than he always has ...

Re highlighted portion....Woah...blame the victim much!!?? That is astounding! That is like blaming the person without a gun from being killed by a robber because they should have had a gun to defend themself. Like blaming the rape victim for being in the wrong place at the wrong time...perhaps even for wearing the wrong dress...or being uppity to a clearly dangerous person. How does that work!!?? Now I have heard it all....I just wish there were a way for only those who voted for the man to have to feel the repercussions of his election. I wish there were a way for non-Americans to wall ourselves off from things he will do over the next few years, if he keeps his promises... Decency has taken a vacation, racism and sexism are in vogue and the environment may never recover...but hey...some will make more money and I suppose that is all that really matters...bottom line...

As for his first hundred days, if anyone expects HeWhoCannot amed to act differently than he always has ... Yes (re highlighted part). As an example, just saw, unsurprisingly, that Christie made a statement today that it was just "politics" when HeWhoCannot amed said he would prosecute Hillary. Another personal aside -- my ex -- an ex-New Yorker, small businessman, and lifelong Republican -- voted reluctantly for Clinton because he believes HeWhoCannot amed is a "lunatic". Let's hope he's wrong.

HeWhoCannot amed has declared bankruptcy four times in the last 25 years and although some might argue that Chapter 11 bankruptcy can be a good business decision, still everyone came out poorer and HeWhoCannot amed most likely used those losses (perhaps) illegally to avoid taxes for at least 18 years. Strictly from a business point of view, there is no way I would invest in one of his ventures. So if he runs the country like one of his businesses, what does that portend for us?
Furthermore, running a country is not the same thing as running a business, it requires different skill sets. It is just a false equivalency.

HeWhoCannot amed is not a successful businessman. He's gone bankrupt six times and most of his wealth is due to tax credits. How can this man run the most powerful country in the free world successfully? I'm gobsmacked that you could think Obama is racist. As most conservatives do you are blaming the wrong people for everything that has gone wrong. The Black lives matter movement happened because a black skin can get you unfairly targeted by the police. There are statistics to prove this. Everyone just wants to be treated fairly and that is not happening. Institutionalized racism and bad police policies and training is to blame. Overseas people will be shocked how little US employees are entitled to. Any break in an 8 hour day is not actually an entitlement, nor is any holiday pay or sick pay or any pay if your workday falls on a public. I have no idea if you give your employees these things but with 8 employees you don't have to provide any health insurance. I am amazed that an employer is complaining about not getting pay raises. Aren't you supposed to give the raises? The reason the economy is so bad is because the minimum wage has not risen for over 7 years. If the minimum wage was increased there would be an immediate effect as that money would go straight into circulation and there would be a trickle up effect. Businesses would sell more, be more profitable and able to increase employee numbers. The reason your business is doing badly is because the GOP senate blocked everything that Obama tried to do to boost the economy including raising the minimum wage and indexing it to inflation. Place all blame where it belongs; with the Republican party. I'm also sick of hearing this too much government nonsense. Every time the 2% get a tax break it's paid for by slashing services to the poor and middle class. Again place the blame where it belongs with the rich who do not pay or pay very little in taxes and the Republican senate who enable them.

My son's experience, mentioned in a previous post upthread, really highlighted for me the fact of problems with police policies and training (and Chicago, I think, has had some the worst), which is not to say that the majority of police aren't admirable public servants. And I do think it's likely that my son would have had an even worse time of it if he had been black. And I think there was probably a homophobic element to what did happen. My son moved away from Chicago, thankfully, but I believe there has been some attempt to address police issues in that city.

Two more things I want to add. Would you as a business person hire someone who had no experience, training or education in the job you were offering? This is the President of the United States not a parking attendant ( no offense to parking attendants). And just to bring it back to Adam, the Republican Party has a strong anti gay platform. They want to take away marriage equality. Women's right to choose. You don't think they will bring these issues back to a conservative Supreme Court? And as far as surrounding himself with qualified people, when I'm hearing names like Rudy Giuliani, Chris Christie, Newt Gingrich, Ben Carson I think we have a lot to be worried about.
