I've said since the Rolling Stone issue came out, Adam is the Jackie Robinson in this scenario. He had to be the BEST, with undeniable talent, looks, charisma, ability and strength to breakthrough. (And he STILL had to go to great lengths to do it – as evidenced by this 19E contracts.) THIS is his struggle and it is the world's struggle right now. You couldn't do a biography on Jackie Robinson without illustrating the prejudice that he experienced and you can't do Adam's life story without it either. Jackie Robinson indeed. As I was starting to read this discussion, that's exactly what I thought of. Jackie will always be known as THE first black in the major leagues. Part of Adam's legacy will always be THE first . . . . I don't think that subject will ever go away because of this.

I know I'm late to everything, but what is this on Lyndsay Parkers article about a song?? Freak Flag ??? No one knows, Tantun. A lot of people asked Lyndsay to clarify, but she never did. The way she phrased it, it does sound like she meant that it was an actual song on the album, but I don't know that she would have had the permission to do that, so who knows. As usual, we know nothing, lol. But I for one would love that title for a song! :D

Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I never worry about the comments like "nobody I know knows who he is" because it is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. There are billions of people on this planet and there is plenty of evidence that even the absolutely most well known things are still unknown to many many people. This was driven home to me when I dove into to U2 fandom several years back. This was during the Vertigo tour era 2005-2006 and they as heavily promoted as Gaga then, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and won 5 Grammies including Album of the Year and yet less than 25% of my customer base had ANY inkling of who they were. Some would maybe guess "are they a band?" maybe a few more would know who Bono was like "Oh, you mean that Africa guy with the sunglasses". This was arguably the biggest band on the planet in the midst of a HUGE tour and plenty of people had no clue who they were. No one individual is the be all and end all of relevance and no statement that "no one I know knows him" has any relevance at all to his career. You make good points rhiannsupf....it would be interesting to build a reference list for levels of international recognition wouldn't it. I would venture a guess that the Beatles really were and are the most recognized musician ever.....and under them perhaps Elvis and MJ [this is just American so there may be another???] I would then put U2, Madonna, Gaga{?}or not, who else? Bowie, Sinatra---he had a huge following among young people in his hey day? Can we make a claim for this level of popularity that does not impact north america at least a little...?

That's what I thought as well. If she made it, I will be a bit sad though. It's a great title ;D (and kudos to her for making it up )

This was arguably the biggest band on the planet in the midst of a HUGE tour and plenty of people had no clue who they were. No one individual is the be all and end all of relevance and no statement that "no one I know knows him" has any relevance at all to his career. I agree, rihandsupf, - in the grand scheme - one sample is meaningless. I am probably the perfect example of a person who lived (until the spring of 2009) completely and utterly outside of ALL music genres except for classical. I've never heard of U2 at all.. same with Black-Eyed Peas, had they not appeared on AI8 and took pictures with Adam, SusieFierce ;D the thing is - my kids AND their wide circle of friends represent a certain slice of the music consuming society. I am not saying that they BUY music (they mostly "share"), but they DO listen to something... It is actually hard to figure out WHAT music they like... For instance - Gaga is no longer of any interest to them...(I had to "convince" my daughter that a 99c album is a good deal, as she did not want to spend even that on Gaga's album saying that she would not listen to it anyway...) So, as any market research goes, i would not discard their opinion completely... and yes, I agree with pjd and others who said it might be "regional". We do live in a weird world where driving is NOT part of our life, and as a result we don't listen to radio - hence "word of mouth" influences are more important than the radio here... My DD is on the Entertainment Board of a large Ivy... They are responsible for bringing acts to the campus - Adam is not on their radar, because there is no "general demand" - we are talking 22K students here... Blackmail hire Gaga's PR machine and have them plaster Adam all over the NYC subway system. That should get everyone's attention. In fact have Gaga officially announce a vacation to get some R&R and revitalize her creative juices and loan her entire PR team to Adam. Make it so that he is everywhere figuratively and literally so that everyone knows about him. That's my fantasy anyway. But realistically I think its regional differences Nica. Some areas teens and young adults know him and others he has yet to be fully appreciated beyond the "Gay Idol" meme. my dream as well The city is really wrapped in Gaga images... I wonder what it costs to achieve this level of "plastering"... The ubiquity that Katy has experienced with this second era is what we're after, so the move he made with this management paves the path in gold, I think. yup... if Katy, with no discernible talent, can become the top dog then I can only hope that the real talent will prevail. rama - I am so happy to hear that your teens like Adam! Gives me hope that mine will convert sooner than later - see, I am quite sure that ONE DAY IT WILL HAPPEN! Gelly - the pictures are so gorgeous! BB makes even "sitting at a desk" exciting!

When I think of "freak flag", I always think of this song... The lyrics might ring true to some of what is going on in Adam's life. Of course, he is probably coming from a totally different place and I should probably look "freak flag" up in the Urban Dictionary just to educate myself. I almost cut my hair, it happened just the other day. It was gettin' kinda long, I could've said it was in my way. But I didn't and I wonder why, I feel like letting my freak flag fly, And I feel like I owe it to someone.
Well, must be because I had the flu for Christmas and I'm not feeling up to par. You know, it increases my paranoia, like looking in my mirror and seeing a police car. But I'm not givin' in an inch to fear. I promised myself this year. I feel like I owe it to someone.
When I finally get myself together, I'm going to get down in that sunny southern weather. And going to find a space inside to laugh, separate the wheat from the chaff. 'Cause I feel like I owe it to someone.

It's a good thing they planned that interlude after the song because I can imagine he needed time to get himself back together again before coming out and wowing the crowd some more. I believe he put the interlude right after OOL to give the audience the time to absorb the new song.

Exactly..If Lyndsey is saying enough, but she understands,I guess I have to understand too. As far as gay blogs and magazines,I'm just so happy that they are giving Adam the recognition he so deserves. It took them a while to embrace him. In my heart though I can't help but want Adam introductions to be more like, the incredible voice of Adam Lambert and/or the Grammy nominee,Adam Lambert.I know we have covered this subject before, but I guess I had to share what I'm feeling. Hope Y'all don't mind. Yes.. they didn'g realise earlier that what Adam does being out and open is actually more effective campaign than what some of the gay activists wanted him do. They wanted him to be an activits/gay spoke person also at the first year of his career, and that's not what he sign up for. He's an entertainer that happen to be "openly" gay. Adam campagn's to love yourself no matter who you're works better even best.. it opens up so many door of understanding for some people. Now they see what he does to people and for people.. and now we see so many of these gay blogs or organizations supporting him. Even some of them that used to make fun of him. I think it's sad.. we love and support him of who he is and they support him now for what he does for them. :(
