Well, my (maybe unpopular) opinion is that it's more than the "youth" that needs schoolin' in the U.S., and the BTM is an excellent opportunity for Adam to be part of that education. Just from the comments here it's obvious that there are plenty of adults who won't give Adam the time of day or his music a listen because of his orientation. No, I don't actually think it sucks that Adam has to have his sexuality put under the microscope. He chose this, and he's strong enough to take it. If by being open and honest and vulnerable and unashamed he can get people past their fears and misconceptions, this is the best possible thing. The BTM gives Adam a chance to say with his own words what he thinks and how he feels. This is not an exploitative unauthorized bio, but one done with Adam's input and featuring his family and friends and colleagues. If Adam didn't think it was a good thing, he could have said no to it. And yes, I fully expect 17 zillion articles next week highlighting various parts of the program, and a lot of that will be about his sexuality. Think about what mainstream America has had in terms of openly gay men until recently: NPH. And he's fine, but he plays a straight guy on TV, and is as non-threatening as it is possible to be. You look at NPH and your mind does not go to gay sex, lol. So he's safe. Unless Adam tones it down a lot , he is always going to be more challenging for people, both gay and straight. And when someone is that open and that edgy, it's going to attract attention (and hate, of course). Thing is, toned-down is not what Adam is doing, and not what he wants to be, and more power to him. We'll never know if a less-gay Adam could/would sell X% more albums or get X more appearances or whatever. But who cares? Adam is Adam, and I love every part of who he is and I admire his bravery in everything he does. OMG such a long ramble, I'll shut up now, lol.Soooo totally agree with every word (even the "ands" and "thes"). As we touched on before – the gay thing is Adam's struggle. If not for that, he would be a tall, handsome, exceptionally talented boy who grew up in the upper-middle-class suburbs of San Diego County with loving, nurturing parents. Not exactly riveting TV. All drama needs conflict and showing what he has been through and still endures WILL wake people up not only to the prejudice and hate that still exists, but the graceful strength and positivity with which he handles it. I've said since the Rolling Stone issue came out, Adam is the Jackie Robinson in this scenario. He had to be the BEST, with undeniable talent, looks, charisma, ability and strength to breakthrough. (And he STILL had to go to great lengths to do it – as evidenced by this 19E contracts.) THIS is his struggle and it is the world's struggle right now. You couldn't do a biography on Jackie Robinson without illustrating the prejudice that he experienced and you can't do Adam's life story without it either. It takes a very unique person to handle being a game-changer. Many others would have buckled beneath the pressure or tried to homogenize themselves to "fit in." Adam did it all on his own terms, which is incredibly courageous.

OMG such a long ramble, I'll shut up now, lol.I don't know what can be done in respect to the closed minded super conservative brained washed by various archaic beliefs part of our society. It goes much further than orientation acceptance (I will stop here as to not go into a political rant...especially in the aftermath of yesterday's events...) But here is another angle that somehow Adam needs to capture: I had a conversation with my 18 year old DS last night: me: yo, just letting you know that the TV/DVR in this room are mine on Suday from 9:30 to 11:00 pm my DS: why? : me: yes, it IS Adam Lambert. He has a VH! special - Behind The Music my DS: really? BTM? But HE IS NOT EVEN FAMOUS! me: well, I guess VH1 feels differently my DS: mom, you don't understand - NOBODY I know listens to him and hardly anyone KNOWS about him... me: believe me, soon enough EVERYONE will listen to him The thing is that I agree with my DS that the outreach is still quite limited. My DD's attitude is the same - she is 2 years older and the college crowd is not in Adam loop either... ... and this has NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS ORIENTATION... The question is: WHY? What is it that attracts young people to music and why Adam has not concurred them? I realize that from the depth of my own insanity it is very difficult to see the light..They get introduced to new music by word of mouth from their peers. How do we get them to pay attention to Adam's music?

I was reading the comments on that Flecking Records "Why do you love Adam" thread and someone mentioned how he rubs behind his ear when he is nervous. I have noticed this in the past but I got to thinking about the debut of OOL. Watch as he begins to introduce the song, the ear rubbing is almost constant and he even switches hands back and forth. When I watched it again it struck me how incredibly nervous he must have been at giving us this first glimpse of not only new music but something showcasing some of his fears and sadness. The more closely you look you can see the relief, first at the insane reaction to just the hint of something new. The look he exchanges with Monte as the fans start to scream is so precious. By the second round of screams he is visibly embarassed yet sheepishly pleased at the reaction and this allows him to head into the song with confidence. It's a good thing they planned that interlude after the song because I can imagine he needed time to get himself back together again before coming out and wowing the crowd some more. After all that, how amazing it must have been to see people stand and stay there in the pouring rain screaming for even more. I don't think he wanted the night to end any more than the fans did.
As for the management switch I think the biggest advantage to going with a smaller yet innovative firm like DMG is that it is much more likely that he is definitively in charge. Ideally management works for the artist but sometimes managers get the idea that they are the boss and sometimes artist kind of let it get that way. But from everything we see it is clear that the bottom line is the Adam runs his career. Even with the label I've seen more comments from RCAEd emphasizing that they are working for HIS vision than I do in his comments on Cooks board. I think that because Adam is such a take charge kind of guy the people who work for him really work FOR him rather than thinking that they are the ones in charge. When he was asked about how he came to do the Canadian Festival he talked about the offer coming across his desk. I really like that fact that HE is the one deciding what he accepts and what he doesn't. Just like a while back when people were complaining that Adam wasn't doing any promo and RCAEd stated that Adam was choosing not to do promo at that time so that he could focus on his album. He is HBIC just as it should be, and I am so looking forward to this next era because I trust Adam's instincts.

Rihannasu, I've always been under the impression that he is adjusting his monitors, not rubbing his ears. He adjusts them constantly. Will watch OOL again, but it looks like he has a volume control on them, because he uses a thumb and index finger to tweak.
ETA: I think he is trying to muffle the crowd noise at the beginning of OOL and transitioning from full-band to acoustic.
