Nica575, it is not all teenagers and young adults that don't know him. My 17 and 19 year old have Adam's music on their ipods. When I have their friends with me in the car and WWFM and IIHY comes on, they know the songs. My local radio station played these songs a lot and still do sometimes. I think that's what makes the difference with teens.

Hmm, why do I find the image of Adam sitting at a desk going through offers so hot... :-[ 8-) God Gelly is such an integral part of Atop. If she were here I'd ask her about the photo of Adam at an office desk and post it pronto but alas I must just footnote it... :(

I was reading the comments on that Flecking Records "Why do you love Adam" thread and someone mentioned how he rubs behind his ear when he is nervous. I have noticed this in the past but I got to thinking about the debut of OOL. Watch as he begins to introduce the song, the ear rubbing is almost constant and he even switches hands back and forth. When I watched it again it struck me how incredibly nervous he must have been at giving us this first glimpse of not only new music but something showcasing some of his fears and sadness. The more closely you look you can see the relief, first at the insane reaction to just the hint of something new. The look he exchanges with Monte as the fans start to scream is so precious. By the second round of screams he is visibly embarassed yet sheepishly pleased at the reaction and this allows him to head into the song with confidence. It's a good thing they planned that interlude after the song because I can imagine he needed time to get himself back together again before coming out and wowing the crowd some more. After all that, how amazing it must have been to see people stand and stay there in the pouring rain screaming for even more. I don't think he wanted the night to end any more than the fans did. As for the management switch I think the biggest advantage to going with a smaller yet innovative firm like DMG is that it is much more likely that he is definitively in charge. Ideally management works for the artist but sometimes managers get the idea that they are the boss and sometimes artist kind of let it get that way. But from everything we see it is clear that the bottom line is the Adam runs his career. Even with the label I've seen more comments from RCAEd emphasizing that they are working for HIS vision than I do in his comments on Cooks board. I think that because Adam is such a take charge kind of guy the people who work for him really work FOR him rather than thinking that they are the ones in charge. When he was asked about how he came to do the Canadian Festival he talked about the offer coming across his desk. I really like that fact that HE is the one deciding what he accepts and what he doesn't. Just like a while back when people were complaining that Adam wasn't doing any promo and RCAEd stated that Adam was choosing not to do promo at that time so that he could focus on his album. He is HBIC just as it should be, and I am so looking forward to this next era because I trust Adam's instincts. I can't put my finger on it, and I have been questioning it since I witnessed it, and then again on the one or two videos I may have watched - I find the look between them really sad.... again, I have no idea why, but I can't shake it.

Nica, I liked your story and it is interesting, but I think it lends more to the subjectivity of music than anything else. My nephew is into metal, and if not for him talking about his favorite band (which is an arena headliner), I would have never heard of them. And my first radio preset is a classic rock station and I also listen to an Alt-Rock station (in addition to the pop station, which can be torture at times). I'm obviously online constantly and have always had a peripheral awareness to pretty much most facets of pop culture, yet I would not recognize these band members if they walked into my living room right now. I couldn't name one of their songs. Music tastes are very subjective. And people's awareness of pop culture tends to gravitate to what they know and are interested in. I love how you were so absolute in the face of his absolute statements. ;D ;D Obviously, the success of his worldwide tour, media coverage, 1 million + twitter followers, etc. support your claim that he IS famous far more than his claim to the contrary. When I was in my 20s, I listened to primarily alternative and would likely not have any clue about who were the "pop stars," at times. My sister is so pop-culture clueless that she didn't know who Black-Eyed Peas were when they were doing the Half Time show at the Super Bowl. : : So it does happen. The ubiquity that Katy has experienced with this second era is what we're after, so the move he made with this management paves the path in gold, I think.

What is it that attracts young people to music and why Adam has not concurred them? I realize that from the depth of my own insanity it is very difficult to see the light..They get introduced to new music by word of mouth from their peers. How do we get them to pay attention to Adam's music? Blackmail hire Gaga's PR machine and have them plaster Adam all over the NYC subway system. That should get everyone's attention. In fact have Gaga officially announce a vacation to get some R&R and revitalize her creative juices and loan her entire PR team to Adam. Make it so that he is everywhere figuratively and literally so that everyone knows about him. That's my fantasy anyway. But realistically I think its regional differences Nica. Some areas teens and young adults know him and others he has yet to be fully appreciated beyond the "Gay Idol" meme.

Oh, and while we are speaking of "hot". I want to hear Adam speak (not sing) the word "lover" just once.

I think whether people (young or old) "know" about Adam has a lot to do with where you are located. Here in the Chicago area I doubt he is well known at all. He had very little radio play and no concerts were truly local. Other areas had tons of radio and concerts and he is bound to be more popular there.

Watching that just-posted FYE/DTRH/Strut vid and though the sound isn't great, the view of the stage, graphics and Adam's dancing is AWESOME. That tail is still cracking me up. The way it flips and swishes every time he moves is beyond lulzy.
