I've been trying to watch both Alabama and Auburn on TV while linking to everyone's fav songs choices while trying to come up with mine. So many of mine have already been llisted (Bohemian Rap., Me and Bobby McGee, Everybody Hurts REM)
1. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry - Hank Williams
A modernized version by Steel Magnolias
2. Always on My Mind - Willie Nelson
3. Unchained Melody - Righteous Bros (vid already posted)
4. Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John (vid already posted)
5. I Fooled Around and Fell in Love - Elvin Bishop......just because I LOVE THIS SONG....remember slow dancing to this in my younger days. Oh, precious memories.
ROLL TIDE ROLL !!! (Loved the clip Savvy)
(and wardamneagle) sigh.

But that's the whole point of the song. the things that people care so much about, borders, possessions, religion are the root of many of the worlds problems, like wars. Do you REALLY want to live in a world where there is NOTHING to care about, where there is NO PASSION? I wouldn't, would just as soon be dead that's why I find it depressing. I had a moment in my life where I contemplated whether there was anything worth living for and the idea of not feeling any love or passion for the rest of my life was overwhelming. I decided that if I couldn't actually feel any real emotion then what was the use of going on because people in my life would be better off without me. Luckily I made it past that moment but that is the scenario that Imagine conjures up for me. Nothingness, just existance with no feeling a peace not born of contentment but of apathy. I always felt like people who find that song inspirational do so on the feel of the music rather than the lyric or that they only focus on pieces of the lyric without seeing it as a whole. To me Lennon was mocking the whole brotherhood of man thing. Maybe he wasn't but it comes across that way to me. I'm so glad you made it past that moment! And I agree, a life without passion is unthinkable. I'm fascinated by your take on the song because I hear it so differently. I see nothing about lack of passion in "living for today... living life in peace... all the people sharing all the world." It's a vision of moving past the things that cause so much conflict-- religion, nationalism, ownership. But it raises an interesting question about what would inspire art in such a world, since so much of art is fed by passion, and passion is often fueled by some type of conflict.

Since current pop songs haven't had a chance to become iconic with the passage of time, I'll nominate songs I heard on either KIIS LA or Z100 within the past week that are over 1 year old.
Baby Got Back (it's the "I like big butts" song) by Sir Mix A Lot. Ryan Seacrest was talking about #1 songs from 10 years ago and this was the one they played.
U and Ur Hand by Pink
P.Y.T. by Michael Jackson
Beat It by Michael Jackson
I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry
