Must be cold there, lots of heavy jackets being worn. The desert can get very cold at night, even during summer. Here's a link to the weather in the nearest town. Says 58 right now. www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=GerlachAnd lol to your last post! But I don't think this is weird at all--I'm greatly entertained! (but then, I'm easy) IT'S ALMOST TIME...they should be shooting flaming arrows into the horse any minute... ETA: LOL, IT'S 12:20 AND NO ARROWS YET--BURNING MAN IS ON ADAM-TIME! ;D

Five greatest songs? Cruel, Q3, cruel. I feel like when I've been dealt the perfect hand in scrabble, and I just know there's a seven letter word in there somewhere, but I can't think of it. Plenty of great words, you know, but not the one. So here's a feeble lazy attempt at some fabulous six-letter words (submitted hastily and early because I'm not sure I can get here tomorrow). note: greatest doesn't necessarily mean favorite...
1) A Day in the Life, The Beatles In some moods I feel like all five songs on this list could be by the fab four. I certainly could have named "In My Life" or "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" or several others instead. But I chose ADITL because of its grand scale, lyrical originality, and the incredible noise of the orchestral crescendo in the middle. Plus it's the ultimate Lennon-Mcartney collab, and they're the greatest song-writing duo of all time, IMO.
2) Like a Rolling Stone, Bob Dylan Again, this is just a momentary stand-in for any number of songs. Dylan tends to get "great song cred" for his songs of social change, but I love his popular-genre songs even more. And he's also under appreciated as a musical innovator--both for electrifying lyrically sophisticated music and for a kind of rapid-word-oriented proto-rap, which is evident here, as well as in many other songs. Genius.
3) I Feel Good, James Brown. The ultimate song about what it feels like (what it sounds like) to be in love, delivered by probably the best performer of all time. So damn simple, so damn good. Nuf said.
4) Graceland, Paul Simon. It was this or "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes." The latter is the classic love story, but Graceland is the great song about the end of a love affair, and I felt that deserved a place on this list too. Such a beautiful lyricist, with a great voice, too.
5) American Pie, Don McLean. It just had to be on here for it's epic scope. I coulda put Bo Rhap, but figured about 40 of you would have that one covered. This has the emotional singalong rousingness of Don't Stop Believing but is so much better. And it tells the story of our country, and our oss of innocence, through our music. Great.
Damn. Is that five already? I'm not done. There are so many other songs I wanna put on the list, like Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison," Louis' "What a Wonderful World" (and a list of sixteen other songs he and Ella sing), "pancho and lefty" by the incredible Townes van Zandt, plus more recent tunes, Billy Jean, smells like teen spirit, ooo every breath you take, I want some true pop on there, inevitably I already feel like this list is all wrong...okay,okay, I'll shut up now. Gotta go to sleep like three hours ago anyway...
(ps-didn't list you tubes I'm on my iPad and don't know how...sorry...won't clog thread this way, at least)

GELLY, OMG, the BM dj's just started playing Blue October's Should be Loved! I saw that you posted Hate Me yesterday--I love that song. One of you Atoppers explained the history of that song to me sometime in the last year--that the lead singer, who is bipolar, wrote it for his mom--and although a student introduced me to the song years ago, it really hit home after that explanation. THANKS TO WHOEVER TOLD ME THAT STORY! (nonotme, was that you? ) I've learned so much from you all, and have been so entertained--just endless thanks. And MWP, that's quite a list--would have to agree those are all classics! And yes to Neville Bros. too... Not going to look at any other lists until I make my own though...don't want to copy/be influenced, lol! Reminds me of a game that went around on Facebook earlier this year--name your top ten favorite poets ever--IN TEN MINUTES. I never finished that one, but I read a helluva lot of good poetry after I read everyone else's lists! Well, the burn was great, but it's way past my bedtime, so catch you all tomorrow!

Just heard from a fellow kiwi fan that a nation-wide radio station played Outlaws of Love tonite!!!! Apparently they were discussing Adam's upcoming album and wondering what the music would be like..... This is what she says: "I was driving home from work and it usually takes me about 15 minutes and I had just turned into linwood ave so it must of been about 10 past 9ish...and I had just flicked over to another radio station (I change it like all the time and I can't remember for the life of me what one I was on) and I heard the guy say adam lamberts name and I was like "oh what what he saying bout him" and then he went on to talk about how adam lambert is teasing all his fans and not pre releasing any of the songs or even hinting about them..and then he went on to say that he had however released one song out of the blue and at that point I was like omg!! And I kinda forgot what he said next cause I was so excited but I think he said something like "if the rest of the albulm is like this I reckon he is going to be getting more fans" and then he said it was called outlaws of love and he was like "check it out this is just a youtube clip but you can really hear how amazing his voice is" and played it...IT WAS AMAZING!!! "
She doesn't know which station it was, cos she changes stations all the time!! (as do I!) It's a shame cos I wanted to give thanks and credit to whichever station it was!!! :D

We're not going to have much of a list of 100 with 5 great songs nominated. Is the question that daunting?
And I would love to hear OLL on the radio!! I think I need to move to NZ!!!
And Aurora that is momtomany's Trojan Horse!!

I can only name 2 of my favorite band of all time (surprise, surprise : If I name more from other artists, I will not be fair to another. These 2 songs are still on constant repeat. 1.
