Do you REALLY want to live in a world where there is NOTHING to care about, where there is NO PASSION? I wouldn't, would just as soon be dead that's why I find it depressing. I had a moment in my life where I contemplated whether there was anything worth living for and the idea of not feeling any love or passion for the rest of my life was overwhelming. I decided that if I couldn't actually feel any real emotion then what was the use of going on because people in my life would be better off without me. Luckily I made it past that moment but that is the scenario that Imagine conjures up for me. Nothingness, just existance with no feeling a peace not born of contentment but of apathy. I always felt like people who find that song inspirational do so on the feel of the music rather than the lyric or that they only focus on pieces of the lyric without seeing it as a whole. To me Lennon was mocking the whole brotherhood of man thing. Maybe he wasn't but it comes across that way to me. I'm so glad you made it past that moment! And I agree, a life without passion is unthinkable. I'm fascinated by your take on the song because I hear it so differently. I see nothing about lack of passion in "living for today... living life in peace... all the people sharing all the world." It's a vision of moving past the things that cause so much conflict-- religion, nationalism, ownership. But it raises an interesting question about what would inspire art in such a world, since so much of art is fed by passion, and passion is often fueled by some type of conflict. Gotta agree with NoAngel here. I see nothing in the song about lack of passion for life. Your take on the song is one I have never heard before. Isn't interpreting art great! Knowing what I know about John Lennon, I'd have to say his song was all about passion, love, brotherhood. Borders and religion have been the cause of many wars (maybe all wars as a matter of fact.) I think that's the point he was trying to get across. We're all human and part of the brotherhood of man. BTW, I am an atheist and am passionate about many things.

Ok not sure if they have been posted or not but these two are at opposite ends of style on the greatest songs continuum (cheese and sincerity). I couldn't even begin to name my top 5 greatest songs... Bat out of Hell - Meatloaf Aww... MeatLoaf isn't Cheesy. I almost put the whole Bat out of Hell album on my list. I use to know every word. Meat Loaf also won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo in 1994 for "I'd Do Anything for Love." Plus He Loves Adam!I LOVE MEATLOAF!! He was just in Council Bluffs (where I saw Adam the one & only time, and I did get Broken Open). I wanted to go, but just couldn't do it financially. He sold the place out though!! Ok, back to trying to catch up on all the vids!! So happy for all the awesome distractions!! Such great music..so much more to hear. If I even try to find my favs, I'll get lost on utube forever. But, might give it a try later on...lol!

I am a tech fail. One of my favorite Top 5 songs with a bit of pretty Adam. I hope this is the song he sang at Brooke's wedding. I Can't Help Falling In Love With You is my fav song of all time too! And I'm a bit young to be an Elvis fan - I saw him in concert Nov 1976 when I was a teenager - my friends thought I was nuts, especially since he wasn't doing very well by then. But he sang this, my heart swooned and I had a friend sing it at my wedding in 1980. I would just love to hear Adam sing it. I think Love Me Tender might also be in my top 5 - I was a big Elvis fan because I shared this with my grandma - even though all my friends were into the 70s bands at the time.

Nica, pretty much anything from Doors is great. And I can also relate to "People Are Strange" for the reasons mentioned.... on the other hand "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Lulu, you're right, Bat out of Hell should be on the list! Impossible tasks, so many great songs....
