I am a tech fail. One of my favorite Top 5 songs with a bit of pretty Adam. I hope this is the song he sang at Brooke's wedding. I Can't Help Falling In Love With You is my fav song of all time too! And I'm a bit young to be an Elvis fan - I saw him in concert Nov 1976 when I was a teenager - my friends thought I was nuts, especially since he wasn't doing very well by then. But he sang this, my heart swooned and I had a friend sing it at my wedding in 1980. I would just love to hear Adam sing it. I think Love Me Tender might also be in my top 5 - I was a big Elvis fan because I shared this with my grandma - even though all my friends were into the 70s bands at the time. I was also too young to be an Elvis fan when he first started but my older sister Anne tells me she took me to old Multnomah Stadium in Portland, Oregon when he came to town in the 50's. I was about 3 and she said that he road around the baseball stadium in an open air convertible. I missed all of the Elvis years in the 60's because of the Beatles but finally got to see him in concert in 1975 or 76. I remember being in awe of his voice. I hear this song at many weddings and one by the Everly Brothers called Devoted to You.

I'm so glad you made it past that moment! And I agree, a life without passion is unthinkable. I'm fascinated by your take on the song because I hear it so differently. I see nothing about lack of passion in "living for today... living life in peace... all the people sharing all the world." It's a vision of moving past the things that cause so much conflict-- religion, nationalism, ownership. But it raises an interesting question about what would inspire art in such a world, since so much of art is fed by passion, and passion is often fueled by some type of conflict. Gotta agree with NoAngel here. I see nothing in the song about lack of passion for life. Your take on the song is one I have never heard before. Isn't interpreting art great! Knowing what I know about John Lennon, I'd have to say his song was all about passion, love, brotherhood. Borders and religion have been the cause of many wars (maybe all wars as a matter of fact.) I think that's the point he was trying to get across. We're all human and part of the brotherhood of man. BTW, I am an atheist and am passionate about many things. Yes, I've only got the visualization of Lennon's view of a perfect world from "Imagine," I've never perceived anything about lack of passion, but a world free from war, hate, hunger and divisiveness.

I'm getting nostalgic listening to everyone's choices for great songs. Maybe the Monkees don't come to everyone's mind when we're talking about great songs, but this is one that I find surprisingly profound. It's "The Door Into Summer" from the Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones LTD. album.
Read the lyrics--it actually does have something to say. You could sum it up with that old saying, "No one ever lay on their death bed and wished they'd spent more time at work."
The Door Into Summer written by Chip Douglas and Bill Martin
With his fool's gold stacked up all around him From a killing in the market on the war The children left King Midas there as they found him In his counting house where nothing counts but more
And he thought he heard the echoes of a pennywhistle band And the laughter from a distant caravan And the brightly painted line of circus wagons in the sand Fading through the door into summer
With his travel log of "maybe next year" places As a trade-in for a name upon the door He pays for every year He cannot buy back with his tears And he finds out there's been no one keeping score
And he thought he heard the echoes of a pennywhistle band And the laughter from a distant caravan And the brightly painted line of circus wagons in the sand Fading through the door into summer
Yes, he thought he heard the echoes of a pennywhistle band And the laughter from a distant caravan And the brightly painted line of circus wagons in the sand Fading through the door into summer
Fading through the door into summer... Fading through the door into summer...

So sorry to hear about your news.
I guess my worst time was my divorce. I wouldn't want to go through that again, but I'm much happier now.
