Allison's voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me....can't stand it. I'm another one that can't understand a word she sings, it all comes out as mush. In all fairness though, I'm not a big fan of women's voices in general, with a few exceptions. I think one of my very favorite female singers is Lara Fabian. She gives me goose bumps. She's soooo amazing....her voice is crystal clear, like a bell. I hate to say it, but I agree. Her voice has never been appealing to me. It's just an unintelligible harsh rasp. I feel a need to jump in here as I was just thinking how much I enjoyed that track and hope for her success with it. Her lyrics are definitely difficult to make out but there are lots of songs I have thoroughly enjoyed without realizing many of the lyrics....I love Sia's music also but she is worse than Allison for mumbling. It is their style... |

Sorry to post who, lol, but thanks for posting that Lara Fabian vid....every song she sings is a story. She's a lot like Adam, she never "just" sings. Her body, her voice, her inflections, her facial expressions....they're all part of the song. I love discovering new singers...I first discovered Lara because of a duet with Russell Watson on one of his cd's. All my favorite singers have voices that "hit" me the first time I've heard them sing, including Adam. I listen to very few singers that I had to get used to. Most singers I listen to on YouTube I turn off halfway through the song lol. And regarding Allison, I'm very happy that she's able to make a go of it with her band, Halo Circus. She also seems to be a hard worker. I wonder if any other people from Adam's season are still pursuing music....I know Ghokey and Kris are. Haven't heard anything about Matt and Michael and Lil....I think Megan put out an album? I've followed both Matt and Michael on Twitter ever since Idol. Michael hasn't tweeted for over a year but Matt still plays small gigs. His last two gigs were a free show in Nashville and a Bah Mitzvah (his spelling). I remember when I saw that Bah Mitzvah tweet I remembered when Adam was on that telethon and host asked if he did weddings and bar mitzvahs and it sounded like Adam said yes. He's come a long way.  |

Thanks for the update on Matt and Michael! It's interesting to see the different journeys all the contestants have taken after their stint on AI. Such a struggle for so many of them.

There are some really great songs out there he could cover. It has nothing to do with the direction of his career just a little tease of music he likes. He's always praising songs he hears and other artists, what better praise than to cover their song! |

Maybe it has to do with the legalities of singing a cover? I don't know anything about the music business, so not sure how easy it is just to put somebody's song on YouTube, even if it's just for us.

There's quite a few artists do it so I don't think it's a major problem, maybe if you were to record it on an album and sell it, then you would have to give royalties to the original writers I would imagine. |
