....but guise, do you see what these people wear? Looks to me like one needs a great ass and the proclivity to expose it. I think I'll wait for the European Glam bus. Photographers go after the great bods. I'm sure there are plenty of people there who aren't model-types.

I admire the heck out of all of you, but I can't imagine any circumstance, even the Almighty AFL, that would motivate me to go somewhere with no trees, no water, no showers. I'm not being snide, I am just being honest. I have experienced communal artistic and musical retreats with the same hippie vibe, but they were in the mountains of Colorado with creeks and greenery. The facilities were fairly primitive, but, but, but. Really, I do admire those of you who are considering the possibilities but I don't think I'd be strong enough to deal with it. ' When I think of your name, I remember back when I was in college, in Colorado, and how the 'quaking aspen' moved with the slightest breeze. Fragile tenderness in the Rocky Mountains. The high desert of Black Rock City is a different wilderness. We'll see where the days ahead lead us. Before Burning Man, the last time I used a latrine was when my 31-year-old son was in a backpack. I am not one to camp. I still use fucking electric curlers! And I'm not so strong anymore. Once I was sweeper on my traveling soccer team. Now I don't run. I didn't imagine this. Didn't imagine that Burning Man and Black Rock City would become anything more than the opportunity to help out as a nurse in a far-away place, existing on my little 'bucket list'. I was too old to feel that free. You know it to be different now. I, who shower every day, have found a new favorite - baby wipes. I had no time to pack. Worked until we left. So, I threw everything that sparkled into the camper; everything with shades of wild pink, green, feathers, or anything that appeared poofy and absurd. It worked - because nobody cared! In the days, weeks, and months to come we'll all have opportunities to explore the forbidden possibility, the hidden opportunity, the absolute never-maybe of an adventure that exists out-of-the-box. Consider it! A thought of something new is renewal in itself. momtomany

I would have to be on some serious illegal substances to brave the hot, dusty desert for a few days, and I'm not sure drugs would even work. I have certain needs...and being clean is one of them. I think feeling dirty all the time would send me over the edge! LOL It sounds like a nightmare to me, but I've never been the camping type.

All kidding aside, as long as I'm procrastinating doing actual work(me??), I googled desert lollipop, and found a "lollipop mirage" sculpture which may have have indeed been initially created for Burning Man. 4.bp.blogspot.com/_T1yJmRoefxA/S9zUio9_VLI/AAAAAAAAAoc/AVWgBYzI-8E/s1600/Flash_Movie_Spin_In08.jpg [/img] ETA: I like camping. As long as I don't have to carry all my crap on my back I'm pretty cool with whatever.

NoAngel, *slap* Snap out of it! Where has "talking sense into ourselves" ever got us? Yes, we have our sane, responsible, workaday lives where we opt for sometimes rewarding careers and steady paychecks and relegate the Burning Man (or woman) – the Artist Within – to be a hobby ... a lark ... something we do for ourselves when we're not stanning AFL fulltime. (Erm, when is that anymore?? :-/) Or it's a "pipe dream" that we've long buried and given up on pursuing because Real Life has taken over. We can do it. I have a feeling that the extremity of the situation adds the stripping of the shells – and the souls. That which is irrelevant becomes truly irrelevant. You burn from within and without and learn that we can survive when we've abandoned all our superficial wants, needs and conveniences. I'm in!! Geez, didya ever consider giving up your day job and hitting the circuit as a motivational speaker? Okay, I will strongly consider it, how's that? Tickets don't go on sale til January 18th, so I've got time either to talk myself into or out of this.

Maybe Burning Man needs a Camp Adamtopia??? I would love to go as well but would never manage it without "knowing" someone but I'd sure be up for a group of us going. Should we maybe set up a Burner section on the blog here and continue discussing it? YES, YES, YES to this idea. I would LOVE to go to BM So much of my early (and current) life ideals seem to be a part of this wonderful coming together of kindred spirits. It would be awesome to have a 'Camp Adamatopia' but what if we had a whole quadrant/section on the BM grid that folk were jointly brought together worldwide by their berting of Adamland????? I 'love' roughing it, but my camping experiences are solely curtailed to gorgeous NZ bush and beaches : (yeah I know - tough) and not dry, dusty, hot lake beds. However, from what I've seen of BM, well it just makes me yearn for that incredible 'freedom' that BM embodies, and some discomfort, difficult living conditions for a short period of time, to me, is acceptable. BUT, in saying that, a quick zip around the 'net' shows me that there are alternatives that involve some comfort levels for more 'mature' bodies...lol I would love to do BM maybe not next year (won't Adam be touring then???), but the year after and I figure you can still do it in comfort. Works for me This link is actually about BM RV rentals for BM \o/ www.usarvrentals.com/blog/2010/08/27/burning-man-motorhome-rv-rentals/

When I was watching/listening to the stram, people would come up with thei "wishes," and the DJs would call it out to see if anyone could come fulfill the requested wish. One was froman 84-year-old man who just wanted a ride on one of the vehicles (can't remember what they're called). The request struck me as so sweet and sincere ... I can't imagine he was too worried about how his ass looked as he was anticipating the experiece of his life.
The poignancy of it reminded me of an image I will always remember that someone described from one of the first AI8 Tour shows - the recapper talked about an old man in a wheelchair, who clutched a photo of Adam throughout the entire show. I forget how they described it exactly, but the image in my mind broke my heart.
I get thet same sense thinking about the 84-year-old man whose dream was to take that ride.

....but guise, do you see what these people wear? Looks to me like one needs a great ass and the proclivity to expose it. Ha, I just posted this over on the new thread ... Here is my first thought. As I looked at all those young, tanned, scantily clad bodies I could not help but wonder at the possible sunburns and more apropos, how gawd-awful I would look dressed like that. Then I started to consider how inappropriate that style of dress is for the desert. Generations of nomadic desert living has actually developed a mode of dress which is not only perfect for the conditions but is also more concealing for the less than perfect body, ie. light-colored, light-weight linen that is flowing and covers the body from head to foot just like Lawrence of Arabia. It keeps a person cool and protected. We would look good like that regardless of our age and body shape and for those special occasions we could make the robes out of this... ETA: and the LED material can be purchased as table cloths, j/s ;D
