Marie23: I have watched the show lots of times and don't recall ever hearing them announce the guest judge... But it has been from past seasons and my mind gets fuzzy:-) So I have to think they either really liked Adam, or are trying to play up the male clothing challenge and showing Adam/male judge goes to the new/not common theme of this week's show. Or they know Adam is a ratings magnet. Not that they’d be that shallow, of course, cough, cough. hahaha Lifeguard yes there is always that true-ness or is it true-ish in Adam speak. I was being overly analytical

I'm hours late, and I'm sure 7000 people have already commented on this, but I have to bat my own heart eyes in his general direction. It makes me all squishy inside to think of how happy these two seem to make each other. He may want to keep the details private, but he sure can't resist telling people he's in love. I join you ! It's so sweet I could cry.

But it rhymes. I think that was the tongue-in-cheek joke from whence it originated. One of those, "We'll take back these words and make them own, therefore diminishing your power to hurt us with them." BTW, if anyone was wondering about "comping the vocals" in Rico's tweets, here's a great description. Rico was a lucky beast today; no wonder he's speechless. www.recordingmag.com/resources/resourceDetail/250.htmlAfter reading that most helpful description, it sounds like the process could be tortuous and time consuming. That Rico comped Adam's vocals in less than a day says that indeed, Rico was a lucky beast. :D My thoughts reading that is Adam is so good live comping a vocal could be hard, or easy, because he could nail it in one take. Deciding on what is "the best" of the best would be very hard, I would think.

We need to make sure cassie reads this article because it was very enlightening regarding the confluence of vocal performance and technical recording practices. Thanks susie. I did read it with interest. Not with surprise. In the back of my mind, I knew this has been going on for many years. We talk most often about "autotune" and how it has de-humanized the recording process to create artificial "talent." To me, this idea of "comping" is not the same. The producer is not fixing a defective vocal, but is compiling the best parts of the singer's actual vocal performances. It is a bit like editing a film, finding the best shots, the best perspectives and the best performances for the most effective scene. If the singer cannot effectively deliver a song, then, no matter how many takes the producer has to pick from, the end result will be less than satisfactory. Conversely, if you have an extraordinary singer, the producer has 5 or 10 takes, all of which are impressive, and the choice becomes which phrase is the best of the best. Having said that, Adam's performance on the GNT live DVD/CD becomes even more impressive. The producer did not have multiple takes to cut and splice into a "best" performance. The DVD could cut and splice different camera angles, but, the vocal delivery was what it was. And it was extraordinary.
