Hi, guys! I am waaaaay behind, on p. 7--just watched gay soldier vid that Bridget posted (cried...you could just feel that kid's nervousness--so glad his dad was so loving)-- but just saw this on Twitter and wanted to post SINCE IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR A SINGLE FROM OUR MUTHAFUCKINBEAST! ;D RequestAdam LAST CALL! Top 40 survey due 9/21 at www.ratethemusic.com Important to establish acct, take surveys before Adam's new single is released.(back to catching up--caught the end of the twitter party--OMG!!!) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Thanks hoopla, I just reactivated my account and did a couple of surveys. It is interesting because the songs chosen highlight something I have been noticing on the radio lately ... less autotune. Also you can really tell formula songs based on material from a year ago, and it is just not doing that well. Ditto, I did not know I needed to reactivate my account. I am now ready for Adam album, single, singles #2 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D PIA is going to be soooooooo proud of me :D

you know, it is kinda sad to think that the only reason for Rico's tweets is PR. I am sure PR plays a large role, but I want to believe that he was sincere.... may be I am misinterpreting your words... Oh, no, was not at all saying the only reason that Rico was gushing was for PR. Was just impressed that Rico understands his business and the power of Twitter. PR, image, advertising, promoting things is my business. I was complementing Rico. I am never going to find good PR sad. Especially when it's clever and used to promote Adam. (I do however find bad PR very, very sad. An example of same would be everything Netflix has done recently.) Have been squeeing away at Rico's tweets. As he said, he works with everyone. He probably has to spend a whole lotta time doing all kinds of tricks with most of the artists who comes his way. And comping the vocal probably takes a long time. And no small amount of autotune. For him to be experiencing the amazing quality of a real talent really singing must be as much joy for Rico as it is for us to experience the tweets. Adam's voice is such a rarity. Probably more for people in the music industry than music buyers.

I am not an anthropologist, but I am an interpreter and and interpreter educator by profession. I know that one of the characteristics of a culture or a sub-culture is its language. When interpreting, it is not enough to do a word for word substitution. The interpreter must understand how that word is used in that culture, what is its denotative and connotative meaning (the literal meaning and the emotional or implied meaning), and what is the context in which the word or phrase is used. One has to consider the environment in which the word is employed, the level of formality or intimacy, as well as the shared experience of the speakers. When we discuss Adam's use of certain terms like "post gay", "fag hag", "fruit fly" or "fish" we need to acknowledge that, unless we are intimately aware of the culture that employs these terms, we may misinterpret the message or the emotions and intent behind it. The dictionary can only take us so far in our understanding, and can sometimes be more harmful than helpful. Placing Adam's use of terms in context.... as an interpreter I pull from my knowledge not only of the gay community (which is somewhat more extensive than "normal" but much less than complete) and from my knowledge of Adam as a person - again, certainly not complete, but more than just casual from AI. Adam has said repeatedly that he likes women, he thinks women are beautiful, and he has many women as dear friends. Adam has a great appreciation for his fans and for the diversity they span. Adam is also consciously and unconsciously positive in his outlook and his speech. This leads me to conclude that Adam's use of these terms is not pejorative. I trust what I know about Adam more than I trust Urban Dictionary. YMMV Thanks Cassie!

The producer often has a huge job to make the finished product sound great, starting with vocals that have a multitude of problems. To start with amazing vocals and then be able to pick and choose the best of the best must be a real treat. The public doesn't know the starting point for those vocals, so they don't know how much of the end product is the singer and how much is the producer. They don't know how rare Adam's "raw" voice is. Come to think of it, that may be a reason that some people were not as impressed as us with Adam's work on Idol. They are used to performers sounding good in recordings, or with much enhancement live, and don't know how much is the singer, and how much is bells and whistles. Perhaps they expect their singers to sound good based on the recordings. So they didn't recognize that Adam on AI was exceptional because the performance was not enhanced? Just a thought.
