Here's my opinion on why it didn't do better. 1) AMA bias 2) Cover bias 3) Not enough radio play for either of his two singles brought about by 1 and 2. I really, truly believe the AMA's cost him a ton in sales and radio play. It was a huge miss IMO and if he'd presented himself like he did on Idol the masses would have taken to him just like we did. Being gay wouldn't have mattered if he'd charmed his way into the masses' hearts but he didn't right out of the gate. His first impression to a non-Idol audience (the AMAs) was not at all charming. I know he's learned from that. I know that performance was not representative of who he is. But the masses didn't know that and he's had to work to change that initial impression. And work he has and the more he works the more people forget. I believe his talent and inherent charm will win out in the end. I just need him to get one spectacular major music award performance under his belt to completely convince me he's arrive and accepted. (I doused myself in hot sauce before typing this post in an effort to sound....spicy? LOL! I mean coherent.) The hot sauce worked, you sound coherent. Another opportunity, X-Factor, award show etc. would be awesome! I do feel bad he may have been judged by ONE performance, Adam is more than that one performance. There have been times in my life that I wish I could have said or done something differently, fortunately for me it was not on national TV. ;D Even tho so much time has passed since the AMA's, I still get that sick feeling just remembering that performance. :-/ He said he cried after that. So did I.

ITA. I will NEVER believe the AMAs was this huge detriment to him. The people he might have put off were going to be fair-weather fans anyway. I cannot tell you how many fans I converse with daily on Twitter who are young, INVESTED, passionate fans who never heard of him until the AMAs. He would not have the international reputation or the "street cred." So if yeah, it cost a few bucks from the SuBo set and ended up laying the foundation of his international reputation, I'll take it.
And in an effort to not get off in that tangent again... YAAY Kevin Bogart as a late entry into the Celebrity Bert Off!! Yes, his comments on Adam's decisions about management are interesting. And Shirley Halperin gets 1000 bonus Bert Points for TOTALLY steering that interview to get Adam scoop. A+++

LOL! It did take me a minute to process that. And I love wal too. and floors and ceilings. Suddenly I can imagine you and Adam Lambert in a room with a bottle of tequila. It would be 'totes' hilarious. Just let me be there to cut the limes.

Burrito, I totally have a Pavlovian response to the "AMA POV" in your post... so, sorry for not being able to stop myself in writing the same words for the millionth time: The AMA performance made Adam into an international, world wide star. Without it - the international success would not have been the same. Loosing some of the USA sales was more than worth it. The people he lost would've gotten "disappointed" in him sooner or later anyway. Yeah, well, look at where you're from (New York) and where I'm from (Taco Bell in Podunk, OK). Naturally our perspectives are different. I've read that meme before, that Adam gained international fame because of the AMA's, but I don't know how true that is. I'd like to believe he'd have gained it with a performance that wowed the US audience at the same time. We'll never know. All I do know is I want him to have as much success in the US as he does internationally and to do that he has to appeal to the masses, which in my dumb Okie opinion is not the east coast, or the west coast, but middle conservative America. I could be wrong though. I mean I've never claimed to be Einstein.
