Burrito, I totally have a Pavlovian response to the "AMA POV" in your post... so, sorry for not being able to stop myself in writing the same words for the millionth time: The AMA performance made Adam into an international, world wide star. Without it - the international success would not have been the same. Loosing some of the USA sales was more than worth it. The people he lost would've gotten "disappointed" in him sooner or later anyway. Yeah, well, look at where you're from (New York) and where I'm from (Taco Bell in Podunk, OK). Naturally our perspectives are different. I've read that meme before, that Adam gained international fame because of the AMA's, but I don't know how true that is. I'd like to believe he'd have gained it with a performance that wowed the US audience at the same time. We'll never know. All I do know is I want him to have as much success in the US as he does internationally and to do that he has to appeal to the masses, which in my dumb Okie opinion is not the east coast, or the west coast, but middle conservative America. I could be wrong though. I mean I've never claimed to be Einstein. I agree that our surrounding affects our perception. I have very little understanding of the "mid-America" mentality...although the folks on this board make me feel that there is hope My point is that the action that "hurt" Adam in the US was THE KISS, where as the action that made Adam into the international star was the American REACTION TO THE KISS. SO, ironically, those people who caused the cancellations and expressed their "outrage" actually created the international news by making the USA a laughing stock and INDIRECTLY made Adam the talk of the world. It was not about Adam', it was about American attitudes.

The hot sauce worked, you sound coherent. Another opportunity, X-Factor, award show etc. would be awesome! I do feel bad he may have been judged by ONE performance, Adam is more than that one performance. There have been times in my life that I wish I could have said or done something differently, fortunately for me it was not on national TV. ;D Even tho so much time has passed since the AMA's, I still get that sick feeling just remembering that performance. :-/ He said he cried after that. So did I. Well, sort of. IIRC not long after the AMAs he talked about crying over Gossip Girl, and said something like maybe he just needed a cry. So it's not like he came home from the AMAs and sobbed all night. And frankly, fans are making an (understandable, but still) assumption that it was the AMAs themselves that were at the root of his Gossip Girl tearfest.

Don't get me wrong, because I also want Adam to be a huge success in the US, but Adam probably is going to have a few problems appealing to some groups of people in the US. In fact, some of the most successful artists in the US at this time do not appeal to the masses. Most of the pop stars out there don't appeal to everyone. Adam is no different. BTW, I live in the heart of conservative America- smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. I'm going to have to agree with the viewpoint that the AMAs ended up doing Adam more good than harm. ITA the AMA helped Adam with non-fans. I think that the event hurt some very committed fans -- did not cause then to not buy Adam's music but emotionally hurt them. I watched the AMAs from Tupelo, Mississippi (the buckle of the bible belt) and I am certain that the AMAs helped Adam. People who never paid any attention to him knew who he was, they listened to his music out of curiosity and our stores were wiped out of FYE over and over again. I am certain he gained fans there. ETA: It really is over and we will never figure out what would have happened if..... I file with with "What if the South had won the Civil War?"

Ummm, thanks, but can we MAYBE pick another analogy, please? It's been a rough night in that respect. BTW, Yahoo! See, now here's where my Pollyanna attitude comes into play. I think the world, heck, the universe will love him just as much as I do once they're exposed to the Adam I fell in love with. And no, I'm not talking about just Idol Adam. I'm talking about Upright Cabaret Adam, Zodiac Adam, Ten Commandments Adam, Idol Adam, Citizen Vein Adam. Yes, you're absolutely correct, there will be groups who won't embrace him (even Michael Jackson had non-fans) but they'll be in the minority once Adam shows his multifaceted sweet self to the universe. Mark these words. When I'm dead and gone you can say burrito told you so. I remember when Elvis first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and most adults thought he'd be the ruination of American youth. Many parents thought the Beatles were a bad influence on young people. My prediction, Burrito, is that when I'm dead and gone and Adam's history is written, the AMA's will be laughed about the same way we laugh about Ed Sullivan showing Elvis from only the waist up. Just this week on Dancing with the Stars, they were quite casual about Chaz Bono and Carson Kressley in covering their backgrounds -- just no big deal. Times are changing -- and this was ABC for cryin' out loud. I have faith that Adam will be very successful in the very near future and the AMA's will just become part of his history. Just hope I'm around many more years to see his exciting future unfold.

AMAs again, lol. We'll be talking about that for years, no matter what else happens in Adam's career. I'm in the net-positive camp, and the worst part of that night for me was watching Adam's most devoted fans have a complete meltdown. It was heartbreaking, and I was genuinely worried he'd lose his biggest supporters over something like that. Happily, the reaction to the AMAs rallied his fans around him and made them more devoted than ever.
I know we'll never know, etc. etc. but I do wonder...
What if Adam had done a performance of FYE similar to the video-- sexy and sultry and classy? Leave out the ridiculous complicated set, skip the fall, improve the vocals, and leave out the crotch snorkel. Leave in the kiss. Would love to see what the reaction to THAT would have been.

Okay, here's my 66th post. (I'm shooting for 100 before I go to burrito oven). To the Canadians on this site, I lurve you. I'm sorry you're scorned. It was a Canadian actor who fueled my first obsessive, fannish behavior and had me trekking to Canada in the dead of winter (March to be exact and I did a 360 twice on an icy freeway and ended up in a ditch as a semi rolled past) to go to a book signing and movie premier. Dumb, dumb me. But even dumber was the next Canadian crush (a singer) who had me flying to Nova Scotia to see a concert, staying with fans I had never met before. Got stuck in Boston airport because Halifax was fogged in and had no way to contact said hostess/fan because I didn't know her last name! Finally arrived but luggage didn't and managed to hook up with said hostess/fan and began the most wonderful, joyful experience of my fannish life. Canadians are the most giving, kind, considerate people I've ever run across (not that I've run across a whole lot of people. I even got interviewed by the local tv station. Ahhh, those were the days...my celebrity days. Still have to smile at the memory of a group of us driving by the hotel where the singer was staying (me with my head ducked down because I'm not a stalker!!!) LOL! I love my Canadian friends. You may be scorned by US sites but you're not scorned by me. Love you all.
