So if I understand Adam's speech correctly (and pls feel free to correct me, I'm not an English speeker), he says that in the last 2 years he became aware that some young people don't have it as easy as he did, and being where he is now, he tries to do something about it, to make it easier for them. Now when I think about it, there is no doubt that he had been aware of the difficulties young gay people go through, long before that. He's heard plenty of stories, even from his own ex bf. Is it that he couldn't internalize and deal with it before? Maybe only now he's emotionally ready to go back and relive the feelings that he had as a teen, and understand others through it? I'm also reminded of his EQCA speech, where he said that maybe in the beginning (right after Idol), he said some stupid things (he did say stupid, didn't he?), referring, I assume, to him not wanting to be the voice of gay people, but just an entertainer (which I don't find stupid at all, by the way). Somehow these two speeches seem to me to be saying the same thing. Maybe I'm completely off, or just over analyzing. I just find it interesting. My feeling is that Adam was still growing up during the years before Idol, he was scrambling to make a living, scrambling to make his place, having fun, being a typical mid-20 kid. The most he could have accomplished was marching in a parade, volunteering to pass out flyers (fliers?), etc. Maybe it’s similar to how most of us were before Adam. We believed in equality and practiced it in our own lives, but how many of us (not me) voted in polls, signed petitions, wrote our congressmen, spoke up when one of our friends made a homophobic comment that was supposed to be funny but wasn’t? Adam has changed our perspective on all of that and I’m sure once he got his bearings, as he said, and realized that he could (and should) try to change things, he did. Everything in this life is about timing and I think now is his time to make a difference, and ours, too.

Tragic- such a young, beautiful life. Can you imagine being an artist and having a fan that looks up to you tweet something like this young boy did to Lady Gaga? No wonder she feels so passionate about LGBT rights. I imagine that many young people have shared their stories with Adam over the past couple of years, which may have encouraged him to become more vocal and political. Sometimes you don't choose certain roles in life, they choose you.

@leisha_Hailey This is an outrage. I demand a public apology by @southwestair and a refund. Hate is not a family value. I will never fly this airline.
Leisha_Hailey Leisha Hailey by Sunflower_AT We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue. @southwestair endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable.

Leisha_Hailey Leisha Hailey I know plenty of wonderful same sex families I would like to introduce them to. Boycott @southwestair if you are gay. They don't like us. 7 minutes ago Favorite Undo Retweet Reply
Leisha_Hailey Leisha Hailey Since when is showing affection towards someone you love illegal? I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers as "family".

wal Thanks for your encouragement and well wishes. Actually, my son came out over 15 years ago. He's done well and is busy living a normal life. (emphasis on NORMAL - no crazy show biz types in his group. Accountants, computer geeks, business folks, teachers, etc. LOL) nica Yeah, now I realize it is becoming more common for gay/lesbian couples to adopt. None of the couples in his group have done that yet, but I know it's possible now. Those were just the things that worried me right out of the box - or closet, I should say. SusieFierce - ITA - Adam's penchant for the positive is awe inspiring... and just plain inspiring. How many times in his younger life did he have to soldier through when he got the rolled eyes and "tone it down" advice? You know that happened, not because he was gay, because he's creative, inventive, talented and OUT THERE. But he kept going and I'm so damn glad he did!!!

idolator.com/6025452/adam-lambert-mom-pflagAdam Lambert Celebrates A PFLAG Award With His Mom Leila (PHOTOS)Posted on September 26, 11 "Adam Lambert and his mom Leila were all smiles at the 2nd Annual PFLAG National Event in Los Angeles last night — as well they should have been, since both mother and child were honored with awards. The duo received crystal kudos for his strong role in the gay community, and her support of her son and the LGBT scene at large. The recent Project Runway guest judge has been very open about his sexuality since placing as runner-up on American Idol, stepping out publicly with his boyfriend at the Idol premiere and to the movies, amongst other places. Congratulations, Adam and Leila!"
