sdgln.com/news/2011/09/26/video-adam-lambert-and-his-mom-get-pflag-award-laVIDEO: Adam Lambert and his mom get PFLAG award in LASDGLN Staff September 26th, 2011 LOS ANGELES – Pop star Adam Lambert and his mom, Leila Lambert, were honored Sunday night at the second annual PFLG National LA Event. The native San Diegans gave warm, funny and touching speeches after receiving the unusually-shaped award. The inverted triangle, a symbol representing the LGBT community, was given to Lambert. The heart, a symbol representing the love of family who supports their LGBT children, was given to Lambert’s mom. When combined, the two pieces create the PFLAG logo. Lambert praised his mom for being so accepting and supportive of his being gay, adding that he has been out since age 18. He noted that he came from a liberal and progressive family, and that many LGBT children don’t have it so lucky. click to read more...

JazzRocks
Thank you for the pics. Freddie's pose is perfect.
As for the tail, who says you're not worthy of a tail? Own it girl, it's yours.
PFLAG Fan Pics
This was just the sort of occasion that is appropriate for tweets and photos. Adam and his mom were proud to be there, proud to receive the awards and want as many people as possible to know about the organization. Celebrity status and the publicity that goes with it were put to a good use.

I am so happy that this board tries to stay 'above' the fray at times like this....what was done to Artistsupporter and is now being done to Azglamfan [albeit to a lesser degree] really puts Adam's fandom in a poor light. All we can do is NOT follow that trap.....hugs
ETA WOAH....what happened to my avi???? How does that happen?
And when I went to attach a big shrugging smiley....they are mostly gone too!!! well I suppose that means I am not being singled out, at least....yikes!!
ETA2...it is back....wtf

So if I understand Adam's speech correctly (and pls feel free to correct me, I'm not an English speeker), he says that in the last 2 years he became aware that some young people don't have it as easy as he did, and being where he is now, he tries to do something about it, to make it easier for them. Now when I think about it, there is no doubt that he had been aware of the difficulties young gay people go through, long before that. He's heard plenty of stories, even from his own ex bf. Is it that he couldn't internalize and deal with it before? Maybe only now he's emotionally ready to go back and relive the feelings that he had as a teen, and understand others through it? I'm also reminded of his EQCA speech, where he said that maybe in the beginning (right after Idol), he said some stupid things (he did say stupid, didn't he?), referring, I assume, to him not wanting to be the voice of gay people, but just an entertainer (which I don't find stupid at all, by the way). Somehow these two speeches seem to me to be saying the same thing. Maybe I'm completely off, or just over analyzing. I just find it interesting.

Hi, katycake, I think he was trying to say that while he didn't quickly embrace the opportunity his celebrity status affords him, he soon realized that not all LGBT teens had the same acceptance he did from his parents and now he wants to make his support a stronger part of his identity in order to help others. Hmm, that's not much clearer than what you said, and I supposedly speak English. But I hope it helps!
