This whole Bastard Album II keeps reminding me of a story CindyM told on PF that broke my heart. It still gets me to this day ... She talked about how her brother got her Take One for Christmas. Of course, he had no idea of the background and he was so excited that he found this early album of Adam's for her. She didn't have the heart to tell him the back story at the time. (I hope I'm remembering that correctly, Cindy, if you're lurking.) It was just so sweet that he thought he found something really special for her and it was the bastard album. My daughter did the same thing and put it in a very special ornate wooden box were I now save all my Adam things. Funny, I was overjoyed that she felt I would love it and I do but never told her the story

For those asking where the fans picked up the "blame Monte" thing... While I'm polishing my rifle for the firing squad, anyway, here are some reasons: 1) Monte thanked Malcolm Westford in his liner notes, which means that he has/had a professional relationship with him, after the Take One shit that Monte knew of, and knew how Adam felt about. (the last argument only proves that he is a douche if nothing else) 2) His wife's infamous twitter rant about Adam being "his majesty" and forgetting and not supporting his old friends. On hindsight it's easy to imagine the issue being Adam sitting on the publishing rights of his and Monte's old material. (and anyone who thinks that she didn't mean adam is in serious denial.) 3) Neil's passive aggressive tweet 4) A quite reliable fan account on the fan talking with Monte about the release before it got out the open, proving that Monte knew about it (though it's not sure if it was the Beg For Mercy of the Other Bastard they were talking about) And, because I feel like it, some more "evidence" that is too shoddy to be counted as such: 5) Monte tweeting an obscure tweet about bullshit instead of defending himself. 6) This same material has been tried to publish before, first in Take One, and then as the short lived Take Two. Now it looks like the material is actually going to be published. So, something changed since Take 1 and 2. And it wasn't Adam's mind. This time, someone signed something to make the publishing possible. Yep, I think you got it! Just a couple of clarifications to the above post: - #4 --- Monte has publicly supported the release of the old Citizen Vein recordings for over 2 years. This is not a secret or new. ETA: Corrected by Q3- #6 --- There have been two previous attempts to release the Citizen Vein recordings of the songs that were written or cowritten by Adam an Monte. The first was the original Take One -- which ended up being reworked to just be the old demos with Adam as a session singer. The second was an album called Take Two that was never released. I am certain that Adam's lawyers are once again at work and there is a good chance these will not be released once again.

Q3, I have a question. If Adam's team stopped the CV songs from being Take Two how can they try it again? Wouldn't whatever settlement was made have stopped it permanently?

The fan who talked with Monte said they discussed Beg For Mercy. What she said to me on Twitter was that Monte told her the following: He has no control over the person releasing the CD; that Monte and Adam both make money if it sells but Adam can't address it because of RCA; that the guys putting it out "helped them when they needed help" and they want to get some of their money back. She told me all this on 10/6 and said her conversation with Monte occurred the past weekend. So if Monte can't stop it and it benefits him the only negative is the shit it causes him with Adam's fans. He probably figures that defending himself on twitter is useless because people are going to believe what they want no matter what he says. Monte apparently feels loyalty towards Welsford and since we really don't know the background of that relationship who are we to judge. Adam quite obviously has a completely different point of view in that even though he will get songwriting royalties this does cause him some problems. Also Adam's relationship with Citizen Vein was through Monte so it always sounded to me like he really didn't have much of a connection to anyone else involved. His loyalty would only have been to Monte. Now going back to the Lisa rant and such, if Monte and Adam have a difference of opinion about these things even though they publicly patched things up and Monte has performed with Adam professionally twice since then, it is quite possible that their personal relationship is no longer as tight. The only arguement against that is that Adam DID tweet the link for Monte's new album along with saying he was proud of him. Monte's position may be one of simply trying not to burn any bridges within the very incestuous music community because taking sides in this issue could cause him problems over the long run. If he is focusing more on not damaging his industry connections then I don't blame him because with 4 kids he can't really afford to piss off the musicians that he works with. Adam is in an entirely different position and really has no need to maintain contacts in the circles that Monte runs in for the most part. The whole thing saddens me because I think it is a case of the typical music business bullshit of artists getting screwed over every which way. I want to quote these again because there are some really good points. The music business is and has always been cut throat. Lots of people are losing out including the UK remixer and yes even Monte. Here we have a Citizen Vein album put out and Monte is getting zilch credit. He's the one who had the vision, who searched out the talent, who set up the gigs, who had the contacts for the inexpensive recording. I'm not a Monte follower but based on his putting together Citizen Vein and his latest album I don't think that he wants to be known as a session guitarist, he wants to be a little more central to the core of the music put out. It must be as galling for him to have this put out as an Adam album as it is for Adam. Both of them would probably have preferred to have it put out as Citizen Vein or double billed as Monte/Album.

Just a couple of clarifications to the above post: - #4 --- Monte was NOT referring to Beg for Mercy which is a remix of Take One. Monte, the other bandmembers, and Adam made no royalties from Take One. They will get nothing from Beg for Mercy. Monte has publicly supported the release of the old Citizen Vein recordings for over 2 years. This is not a secret or new. - #6 --- There have been two previous attempts to release the Citizen Vein recordings of the songs that were written or cowritten by Adam an Monte. The first was the original Take One -- which ended up being reworked to just be the old demos with Adam as a session singer. The second was an album called Take Two that was never released. I am certain that Adam's lawyers are once again at work and there is a good chance these will not be released once again. I'm confused, based on the Beg for Mercy site with the streaming clips, those seem to be Citizen Vein songs, NOT Take 1 songs (the Take 1 songs are the one bundled with Steve Cooke's on the Paramount Sessions). -Beg for Mercy -Just the Way it Is -Rough Trade -Runaway -The Circle -Turning On are the songs being streamed. ___________________________ Also I second what others have said that this would have been a lot less shady if released as "Citizen Vein" although still plenty shady if against Adam's wishes. The use of Adam's tweets on that site (and on twitter) are clearly designed to make it look like the Beg for Mercy single is the one Adam is talking about and fans are awaiting. Regarding Monte, I'm just going to wait and see. The one argument that I question however is that it's important that Monte keep on good terms in the music business with Welsford and the people associated with this release for future business reasons. It just doesn't make logical sense to me, given Adam's reaction to this, and the deceptive marketing, no one is going to want to be associated with something that smells so fishy. Look at djdrifta's anger at being deceived and being associated with it. Imagine (though the scale is different) that this was an early recording with Madonna, not Adam, and she was pissed about it. Who do you want to have good relations with in the music business for future opportunities and fans, Madonna or this Welsford guy? The small amount of royalties or artistic acknowledgement you might get would never balance out the lost goodwill in the larger industry. I'm hoping Monte wasn't involved and comes out standing together with Adam for both of their sakes.

I have to admit I am really, really looking forward to the "official statement," and hoping that clears it all up.

Good point about Album being marketed as Citizen Vein Jablea.
After all is said and done ,I think Adam being Adam will win out,no matter what.... It's just too lousy having to deal with that Parasite record producer who wants to suck Adam's blood while riding piggyback on his coat tails.. I mean the dates of distribution. I agree with the folks who said ,put out the music if you must, at times when it wouldn't confuse the public and take money away from sales on Adam's new music. For me that's the lowest of the low.. just plain mean and terribly greedy.
