Was eating Pirate Booty while typing that earlier post, and had borrowed a siddur as reference. Gotta return the book Monday. Ack!!!

Rihannsu, I hope your van gets fixed and that it all turns out OK. I feel as you do about yesterday. I have also been on the wrong side of a lynching. I internalize these things and do not find them fun at all. Again, not trying to rain on anyone else's parade. I think Monte is being punished for being inarticulate and unable to respond at the speed of Twitter. Perhaps I identify. I'm confused as to why people keep saying this. There was no lynching- that seems like an extreme interpretation. I saw comments saying there were red flags, suspicions, worry, disappointment and everyone HOPED it wasn't true. Fans who were defending M kept asking WHY others were suspicious or distraught. (over and over) Therefore, fans who were worried about the series of events were giving the reasons for their feelings. It was a discussion. There was no trial and no conviction. In fact, I saw more impassioned statements made about Adam and his comments on Galliona than I saw on the comments Monte made directly to a fan in a DM. Fans, who were upset, were trying to show some restraint and be considerate of other fans feelings. What upset me yesterday was not contentious discussion or differences of opinion but rather the apparent willingness or sometimes even delight at stringing [people] up by the fingernails on the flimsiest evidence Once again, no one here was stringing anyone up by their fingernails. There is no delight in thinking that Adam might have been betrayed by a long time, good friend. Who takes delight in something like that? "Flimsiest" of evidence is your interpretation, others didn't feel that way.

Great essay, as usual, NoAngel! I would add to the cast of characters the one who sits in the corner and stays the hell out of it! [/size] Agreed, Lynneville!!! Being in the corner is not always a bad place to be. Thanks, NoAngel, for encapsulating the family so well. Started my Sunday off with a smile! (Never did like family pics, tho..LOL..) YIKES! What happened to my font? Help! ???

I am reading this fascinating book "The Talent Code" by Dan Coyle. Coyle proposes (with lots of scientific and observational evidence) that talent is not something one is born with, but rather something that is grown in the brain thru certain identifiable practices. When one practices a skill, neurons fire along a nerve path. This causes a substance in the brain, myelin, to wrap around and coat the nerve path. This, in turn, provides insulation of that path so that the electrical signals become stronger and faster. Each practice builds another layer of myelin, until the practiced pathways become like broadband connections rather than dial-up. We've talked much about Adam's talent; how exceptional he is. And you all know that I get a little (a lot) testy when people say, "Oh, he was blessed with a God-given talent. He was born with it." Yes, he was born with a certain physiology, but he has learned how to use and maximize it through hours and hours of concerted practice over the years. This book supports that, and explains how the process works. I highly recommend it. Cute but probably not the explanation for talent. Practice and good teaching can make an average person reach an OK/mediocre level of expertise. This was proved before with the Suzuki system. All the "talented" people he mentioned (Jessica, Ashely Simpson, Ryan Cabrerra. Demi Lovato) are mediocre singers. None of then is a great artist (IMO). The level of excellence/art depends on where you starts = innate talent. The innate talent combined with practice and luck (being born in the right place that will allow you to cultivate your innate talent). Myelin thickening is a circumstantial evidence and probably not the only explanation for learning and memory retention.

They say families have to sit down for dinner together at least once a week to continue to be a cohesive functioning unit.... guess that problem is not with this kind of family... we have pie together , all the time... Thanks No Angel... you always keep it real.... Some pop art then for the family "fridge" Ooooo....I love this and am right-click saving it. My real life family loves to argue at the Thanksgiving Day table. We have learned to separate the liberal side of the family and the right-wing side by putting them at opposite ends. Two topics of discussion are off limits for any kind of discussion....Seattle Seahawks and Obama healthcare. Everything else is fair game and, yes, I am kidded a lot about my Adam obsession.
