I do not believe that Adam owes Monte anything. I also do not believe that Adam promised him that they would be a band, he is a solo artist. And I also do not believe that he promised that any of Monte's songs would be on the album. Adam fans have been very good to Monte and his family. I have to say I agree with Tigerlily, that Adam fought his way up and that it did not havemuch to do with Monte.

I'm sorry cassie but I just don't get it. This example you posted I mean. This friend is not going to ride on his coat tails, is not going to make money, is not going to interfere in the middle of his MOST CRUCIAL MOMENT in his career. The TIMING STINKS. Let him be a huge star and THEN release the songs and get more bucks, because (MAYBE) I would buy it . NOT NOW.

[grins] Still can't sleep, so back again. Devils advocate com'n up!!! In fact I think that Adam did Monte a favour to accept his offer about being the lead singer. Pleaze. There wasn't a huge line of bands begging Adam to front for them. Look at the composition of Citizen Vein. Monte, as Madonna's guitarist had cred. Tommy [I'm blanking on his last name), the drummer from Prong, had cred. At the time, Adam was a theater boi who wanted to sing rock. Now, in deference to Suzie, it is probably more fair to say Adam owes Lee Cherry[/b] more than Monte as I believe it was Lee who first cast Adam in Zodiac and then recommended Adam to Monte when Monte was shopping around for a singer. But really, Adam didn't create the band of Citizen Vein, Monte did. Now, all y'all - tigerlily included - are perfectly correct when you say Citizen Vein didn't go anywhere. It happens. But, as far as I can tell, CV was a milestone when Adam could first say "I've been in a band, making original music". Likewise, I think Monte was the catalyst to getting Adam into the studio recording original music. Not as a session drone being order to sing to the lowest common denominator. Being a singer. Did those songs go anywhere? Nope. But it sure was a step up from Adam playing around with his laptop in bed. Experience. Lastly, Monte gave him cred in other arenas once Adam finished Idol. Adam got to say "I have Madonna's guitarist". Monte got Adam that meeting with Madonna. The "eyes on the prize one". The one that every freaking interview used for nearly two solid years. Does Adam owe Monte everything? Nope. Does Adam, IMO, owe Monte a heck of a lot? Yes he does. And I - personally - think that some of the fandom acts like Adam sprung fully formed, like Athena out of Zeus' head, after some random point in his mid-20's. When in fact Adam evolved - not just through his own hard work (and he did work hard) - but through the opportunities given to him by others. And, IMO, Monte was the catalyst that gave Adam many of those opportunities to succeed.

Monte and Adam are two musicians who recognized talent in each other and collaborated together on some music. Ultimately, their CV collaboration did not take off. However, they must have enjoyed working together as they both decided to work together again after AI for Adam's tour.
At that time, Adam probably was not sure what direction to go with his music, or whether his AI fan base would follow him out of rock and into NEXT. Monte probably hoped Adam would go more rock; Adam trusted Monte to help him put together a touring band and look out for his interests.
Adam's musical direction has evolved and changed direction, and he has developed a fanbase that gives him enough confidence to follow his instincts, and those are different than Monte's, so he has moved away from the direction Monte may have hoped for, wherein he might have been a better writing fit for Adam's future projects. That is always hard between friends and collaborators, and it may have been somewhat awkward for Adam and disappointing for Monte.
Working in the entertainment industry, my husband has had that kind of thing happen frequently. It is best when the disappointed person can keep the awkward person from feeling too awkward over the disappointment he has caused, so that continued collaboration in the future is possible and not uncomfortable- and when the person who has disappointed the other remains appreciative and respectful.
Monte probably would have liked to be part of a band; Adam has chosen to be a solo artist. They may have different feelings about this CV music that they both created together in the past. It may still fit into Monte's brand; it does not fit into Adam's. I am an Adam fan, but I understand that Monte may have a different point of view, and I am sure that to Monte, if he does, that he feels his feelings about the music are just as valid as are Adam's. The timing of the release is annoying, and I'm sure it does not make Adam happy, just as not releasing them ever might possibly make Monte unhappy.
It is what it is. I hope Monte and Adam work out whatever, if any, awkwardness exists between them in this situation as it is always best to keep friendly with old friends. That is between them.
Adam came to us with a pre-idol history, and The CV recordings were part of it. What really is more important now is Adam's future history, and the music that will be part of that, and if the music he is creating now will resonate with fans and with the wider public.
I really think it will.
Old news will be old news soon enough.
And it is probably a good thing no one is awake to read this post, beating yet again a dead horse, LOL.
ETA: My mother used to tell me that there are always two sides to every story, and we haven't really even fully heard one side. We don't even really know if there even is a Monte and Adam story. Or what sides there are.
Off to sleep...

When I read that Liam had given a shout-out to Atop yesterday I just thought: Oh no, of all the pretty days we have had in this place together....yesterday was not a good one for any newcomer to swing by for a very first visit. Loved all of your post btw, but this bit hits home the most for me personally. I spent at least 45 minutes at a lunch talking with Liam specifically and singing the praises of Atop because I wanted the international audience to check us out if he gave us a shoutout. Call it a 'marketing' exercise if you will - but I love this place and I wanted more people to find 'us' - but kinda just not on a 'stabby' day. However, in saying that - Atop is what it is - good, the bad and the shallow ;D and I wouldn't have it any other way. Lol... a new excellent popcorn smiley found on a comment at Chunkey's lol worthy site \o/ Could come in handy in the future Gah! only just caught up on thread and it's time to go to bed again. I have a big day tomorrow. My brother & his wife (who have lived in Papua New Guinea for the last 45+ years) and who I haven't seen since my Mum's funeral 2.5 years ago, are arriving on a cruise ship tomorrow morning for a day. They've just done a cruise of the South Pacific and have sailed straight from - wait for it - Bora Bora to here. I will need to quiz them intensively about odd shaped mountains, resorts and jet ski facilities

It is my understanding that RCA required that Adam be a solo artist, and that it was not a personal choice.

Hoppers and Lynne, thanks for the balance and nuance. In no way does trying to understand Monte mean being disloyal to Adam. We are the first fans. We've been here from the beginning. We are here to stay..
ETA: My experiences have taught me there are AT LEAST two sides to every story, and then there is the truth.
