OK, moved per mod request. Probably won't be seen, but I don't want to step on any toes by posting inappropriately. My final word(s) on Monte, at least until we get that promised statement from him... Pretty much my thoughts as well.

OK, moved per mod request. Probably won't be seen, but I don't want to step on any toes by posting inappropriately. My final word(s) on Monte, at least until we get that promised statement from him... Did Adam have reason to be grateful to Monte? Sure. If memory serves, Monte was the person who got Adam the session work that became the source for Take One (so okay, it didn't turn out so well in the end, but at the time it got Adam some much needed experience in the studio, not to mention some much needed moola). He gave Adam the opportunity to front a rock band and a shot at a record deal. Again, it didn't turn out well in the end, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it gave Adam the opportunity to expand his creative horizons and the potential for greater success down the line. And even after Idol, I'm sure Monte was a great source of support and knowledge for Adam as Adam worked to launch his new career. Monte toured with Madonna, played in bands, and had tons of experience in that world. Adam did not. However, that isn't the same as believing Adam should be in Monte's debt, or that he "owes" Monte anything. IMO, any "debt" he might have owed Monte has been repaid a hundredfold. Monte has benefited greatly from his association with Adam, more so than Adam has from his association with Monte. All those years of touring with Madonna did not give him a fraction of the visibility he has gained from his two years with Adam. Adam made him musical director and gave him the opportunity to shine on stage. As has been pointed out, Adam's fans attend his gigs and went a long way toward funding his album. They know his name and follow him to varying degrees. So if any gratitude is owed, it goes both ways.I'm not waving a pitchfork, nor leading a lynch mob. I am, however, unconvinced at this point that Monte is not involved in the release of the CV tracks. The longer Monte remains silent, the more suspicious I get. That isn't to say I'm not willing to be proven wrong. I hope I'm wrong. I don't want to think a longtime friend has betrayed Adam. Because, make no mistake, if Monte is at all responsible for the release of those songs, I will consider it a betrayal unless Adam says otherwise. I totally agree with your second paragraph. Monte was not some Midas "giving Adam a big break," he was a guitarists who knew some other musicians and wanted to put together a band. They NEEDED a lead singer. They found one that was probably better than they ever imagined. THE ONLY thing Monte did was set up these studio sessions and look what has happened? Adam has paid for them in blood for more than FIVE YEARS. Is that debt not paid yet? Is not having his entire future career undermined for a week or two in the freaking studio time in 2005 (or whenever), with tons of resulting legal entanglements not payment of a debt yet? I think the Gotti family would have let him out of his obligation by now, jeeze. Oh, and by the way, supporting him for an entire year while he gets to tour the country and the world and having his fans pony up $50,000 and pay Monte for house parties, etc. Is that not enough? Does Adam OWE everyone who has fucking held the door open for him when his hands were full in the last 10 years? Apparently so. And it's a debt that will never end by this logic.

[gently] Tigerlily - what does any of that have to do with Citizen Vein? And yes, Monte has many other projects, none other which have to do with Adam. Adam wasn't anything more than a chorus boy when Monte asked him to sing with him. Monte was giving Adam a break at that time, not the other way around. Adam was making well over 100K a year as a "chorus boy". It is extremely difficult to get a "chorus boy" position for a major touring company, especially for a production like Wicked. There are literally thousands of people who audition for 30-40 spots. Adam isn't in CV. He is a solo artist. Monte did not give Adam a break. That CV music went nowhere. They played in small bars to a handful of people. AI gave Adam his break. The show is what gave him the start on his career. Being on AI is what got Adam a recording contract. Adam created his own breaks. HE put in all the hours and hours of hard work and practice to get to the place where he could capture the hearts of millions on a AI. HE was talented enough to become the runner up and charm the critics and media on the summer tour. HE worked his ass off for 18 months touring, interviewing, and promoting his first album. Monte wasn't any part of Adam's rise to fame. Adam doesn't owe Monte a thing, he did all this on his own. (He did hire him and make him musical director, plus Adam's fans fully funded an album for M. Isn't that enough? How long is Adam going to "owe Monte"?) I know this thread is probably dead but just wanted to say I love you! And "get out of my head!"

I'd be pretty disappointed in Adam's professionalism if he were to withdraw from an agreement made in good faith. Doesn't matter if he was a partner or a hired hand. From all I can determine he went into a studio to record CV songs with the hope that they would find an audience and make the band members some money/noriety/fame. Presumably Monte and the Tommy (prong) guy did the same thing.
Just because Adam is now a bigshot doesn't mean that his "feelings" outweigh the other two thirds of the band's feelings. So as far as any Monte/Adam showdown over release/don't release I tend to fall on Monte/Tommy(prong)'s side. Since I don't think that Adam's head is that big I also don't think their is any Adam/Monte feud.
What we have is a guy that they both gave some rights to taking advantage of both Monte and Adam. Adam is getting credit and timing that he doesn't want, need, or appreciate and Monte and Tommy(prong) are getting the shaft of invisibility.
Adam named a mastermind in the whole scheme of exploitation and that name was not Monte.

I wasn't going to comment anymore but I will.
I TOTALLY agree with those that have stated that CV was a partnership. Monte didn't "discover" Adam. If Adam "owed" Monte anything, and I don't think he does, he paid him back by hiring him on Adam #1.
I also do NOT see Monte being vilified here, nor did I see posters attacking other members who support Monte.
This board was created to promote discussion about all things Adam. I think it's a bad idea that this conversation has been relegated to the basement of yesterday's thread just because the sentiments of the conversation are distasteful to some. I always thought that scroll was your friend here. I hate when other members "flounce" off in a huff but at the present moment I understand why they do it.

Here's the thing. First, let me be clear that I support Adam and would not buy this album unless he said it was good with him, and that is easy for me because I am not big on the CV snippets. (I am such a big fan of Adam, that even if I didn't like the snippets and he was promoting them I would buy them... And possibly come to love them because they were his, LOL )
I dont believe that Adam and Monte "owe" each other anything. Their music is a business, and many of their decisions are business decisions, and each one has a music business career that they are pursuing that has at some points been mutually advantageous together, and that they have the right to terminate if it becomes a disadvantage at any time, without guilt.
I don't know the real deal with this CV music release, and I don't like it because Adam doesn't like it, and I will support Adam because he is who I stan. Monte may be talented, but I never contributed to his kick start, attended his concerts, or bought his album because I am not a fan of his solo music.
The timing of this release seems sleazy, and the way it is titled and marketed seem sleazy, and if Monte is behind that, I wouldn't be happy with his choices as a friend.
That being said, some people feel that Monte has a moral obligation, as a friend, not to put the music out at all if Adam doesn't want the music out at all, and that if Monte backs putting the music out at all, he is ethically guilty.
As a friend, some feel that Monte owes Adam the loyalty of not doing what he may feel is a good business career move because of their friendship, or because of Adam's greater success at the moment, or even because of all that Adam has done or will do for him in the future.
However, Monte stans might feel that as a friend, Adam owes Monte the loyalty of not getting in the way of his success by coming out against publishing past music they agreed to make together at one point and to try to market. Again, I am not saying I think this, or even that they think this, just that Monte is a musician with dreams just as Adam is a musician with dreams.
In the end, Monte and Adam each have a right to consider all these factors and any fall out that might come with them, and come to their own business decisions, weighing out the pros and the cons to them personally and in a business sense. We do not at present know what their lists would look like, or if they are even if they are on different sides of this release issue.
I am coming at this with a bias myself because my son is a musician with dreams of his own, who makes music featuring other artists frequently. If a situation should occur where each artist had a different desire about what to do with the resulting music, I would believe my son had as much right to the outcome for that music as the other artist involved. There are contracts that help keep those rights straight.
That being said, because I am Adam's fan, I will take my own fan buying direction from him on this one.

For me, the horse won't be dead until Monte kills it. IMHO, YMMV, etc. etc.

Jablea, just to be clear, Tommy is not involved in these recordings at all. Susie, small correction, the final amount of Monte's kickstarter was over $65,000!!! :

I think this is an interesting article. In it, Monte Pittman talks about The Citizen Vein, whether or not the songs would ever be released, he talks about Take One, etc. But it's OLD - April of last year. (Still wish someone could find the interview where Adam talks about the producer from New Zealand who didn't have a lot of LA contacts - Welsford, though I don't recall Adam used his name in the interview. I just relistened to most of Lyndsey Parker's "Porch" interview, thinking it was there. It wasn't.) www.ultimate-guitar.com/interviews/hit_the_lights/monte_pittman_id_love_to_see_adam_lambert_play_with_led_zeppelin.html
