Adam looked gorgeous. Great colors, great movement, great funk. As for the music and the vocals..... here is what I hear. First off, there is a lot of backing track used. There are times when I definitely hear more than three voices (allegedly his and two backing singers). His voice is also doubled (at least) in the chorus. To make up for the fact that his falsetto doesn't have much power or weight? I suspect there was also a lot of instrumental backing as well, tho' I couldn't see the "musicians" close enough to tell what if anything they were actually playing. During the first verse there were repeated pitch problems. So much so that I suspect he might not have heard the backing or his vocals in the monitors? The pitch got better as the song went along, and the bridge was on the mark. I also heard a couple of notes that sounded like his voice cracked or bobbled slightly. So, not his best vocal performance. Why? Like I said, maybe problems hearing. Also, the melody jumps up and down between his different registers with quick, abrupt staccato notes. That requires very precise adjustments on the fly. No chance to correct if he doesn't hit it square on. In my opinion, it does not play to his vocal strengths. Still, a visually compelling performance that makes you want to dance. And, the girls on the platforms gyrating reminded me of go-go dancers of the 60s and 70s. Made me smile. thanks Cassie, I would agree with your assessment, I noticed the pitch issues right off. I would imagine it to be a difficult song to sing live. But he brought it home quite nicely and others seem to love it. I think that we have become SO use to Adam hitting the mark every time that when a few notes are missed we are surprised. lol. He is human after all. He looked fabulous!

That was fun! Especially loved the beginning -- the little head nod after the "oh yeah" -- then the finger snapping with that absolutely dismissive hand wave to the witches and demons. LOL Still trying to figure out if he says situation instead of shit. Loved the mic stand toss -- but then I wondered where it got to. Ha ha just disappeared! Superpower! He says sitch for short! Right! I get it now!

I watched the whole performance just now and I LOVED IT!!!!! Adam on a pedestal looking gorgeous and "swagalicious" works(!!) and the ending was just the icing on the cake Major improvement. And did I say how much I loved that look?! (I had to do an unexpected airport pick-up today, right before Adam's performance, that led from one thing to another. Still, once I saw the short BBC clip on my twitter I went into full flail mode haha)

I agree and for me he sounded "shouty" if that's the right word - I'm so used to hearing him sing very melodic even songs that aren't particularly melodic in style but this sounded pushed and not his usual style to me, not sure if I'm making sense.

Yeah, I heard the strain in his voice too that cassie and you are talking about. To me that just means he was really sick when he had to cancel those appearances and is still getting over that illness. He had to push through this performance rather than doing it smoothly, which is what I would expect if he was completely healthy. I still liked the performance, though! He looked spectacular, the visuals were amazing, and the overall effect for the casual listener was pretty great too, I imagine. But was it the best vocal? - no, and I think Adam would be the first one to admit that. He is also the only one who knows exactly what happened in those couple of spots when he sounded flat - were there some hearing issues? My completely uninformed opinion is that he is still getting over the illness (virus, bacteria, whatever it was that he had) and that the pitch problems and the strain in his voice that could be heard in two or three places were due to that. I know that I sound completely different to myself when I get sick and how hard it is to sing. I mean, 99% of singers would probably be unable to perform at all if sick. So, Adam is either really amazing at pushing through such problems, or he is now on the mend but this is just some residual momentary glitches. I hope he gets well soon, if that is the case and he is still a bit sick. I am sure he will be in full voice before we know it and astound us vocally with more performances. For this performance, I just enjoyed the entirety of it: the visuals, the music, the look, the dancing, but I accept that it was vocally just ok, which is still better than most people can manage on their best days! And that Freedom Yeah was pretty spectacular, which most singers could not manage in their dreams!

Loved the whole vibe to Adam’s performance tonight. Thanks to those who posted performances and clips. Just out of curiosity, though—is it customary to get on here for some of Adam’s performances and point out any “mistakes”, “needed improvements”, etc.... ? I ask this because not everyone who looks here is a “friend”; of Adam, which is fine if we want to do some of their “work” for them, thus leaving them time to hunt for additional problems. Now, Cassie was asked as a resident expert, so that seems to me to be in a different category, I guess.
Yes, I know we have freedom of speech here, but this seems to me to go to a whole different core of his being that is different than hairstyles outfits, significant others, interviews and publicity, etc... It is difficult to clearly articulate what I mean here.
I might be the only person who has wondered about this issue, and I do not know how to make the little umbrella trying to shield someone from the brown mud or poop patties being thrown at them, but please consider that Umbrella up here! If I am being silly or needlessly sensitive, I shall scamper off to continue my fall cleaning. Thanks for any clarification.

Just watched it. Very Very good. Everything. I diddn't notice any obvious pitch problems. Maybe that is just me. I Thought he sounded on key. I doubt the audience back home are focusing on the technical side of things anyway. I actually think SP is very underrated live. Difficult to sing Melodically speaking. But its a anthem type song. And it has a song feel that suits a chior back up. And Adam power vocals send it through.

I do not see this site as a "fan club" type with only rainbows and puppy dogs related to Adam. I think we are staunch fans, but still critical thinkers. Might pointing out flaws lead some readers to go hunting to hear those flaws? Possibly. But, if there are trolls reading, they will find flaws where there are none, and rake Adam over the coals regardless of the validity of what they say. I think that ignoring glitches and less than perfect performances while heaping on praise regardless makes the comments questionable. Like the articles on the web that purport to be legitimate critiques, but are in actuality written by fans who extol every note Adam utters. It makes the articles suspect to me. Makes me roll my eyes a bit. Adam is an exceptional artist, and one of the best singers I have ever heard. But, he is not perfect. He has often said that he is a perfectionist and is his own worst critic. I don't think he would be offended if he read comments pointing out flaws that he, himself, is more than aware of. He would appreciate the honesty. At least, that is my opinion.

One more thing. About the pitch issue. The ability to hear pitches is individual. You can actually take a test online to see how precise your sense of pitch is. jakemandell.com/adaptivepitch/ Therefore, what may sound "pitchy" to me, might sound fine to others. Or what sounds fine to me might still be a tad off to someone with a more exact sense of pitch than mine. There are obvious pitchy moments for some singers that most listeners would notice and cringe at. There are other moments where some would say, "Hmmmm, it could be the slightest bit flat or sharp, but not jarringly so, and not enough to interfere with enjoyment of the performance." While others would say, "It sounds great to me." It is a matter of how minutely one hears differences in sound wave frequencies and modulations. Something learned, but also naturally innate.
