Pure speculation on my part here, but...
1. Adam premiering single on ETV? I would think that they would promote the hell out of it prior to the performance. Surprising everyone that evening would be a wasted opportunity.
2. Adam doing a song with Queen? It would not take a lot of rehearsal, really. They didn't have that much rehearsal time for We Are the Champions. Send Adam the recording, and he can learn it. And Queen already knows it. Really, he could probably run thru it with them a half dozen times and be ready to perform.
3. Queen playing backup for Adam's new single? No way. This is THEIR tribute. They are not a backing band. It would be an insult to them. Plus, THEY would have to learn the song from scratch --- a more challenging thing than Adam learning the vocals for one of their previously recorded, famous songs.
4. Adam doing some kind of commentary or intro via videotape? The least complicated possibility. He has already commented about Freddy on that PBS program. He wouldn't have to fly to Europe. He wouldn't have to rehearse anything. He would get visibility and recognition.
Oh, heck. I don't know anything. But, I DO believe that Adam would not have tweeted that if he were not involved in some way. Like you said, that would be cruel to his fans.
Finally..... DAMN! I am gonna be away from the internet on Sunday. Can't watch it live. This happened to me when he sang Aftermath on AI, too. It's not fair!!!

So...is twitter going crazy? I bet there are alot of people tweeting Adam to give us more information! ;D Twitterverse is being rational about this. Nice change. The idea fly around and then died. And JMHO Adam tweeting to support MTV would be so Adam. There was no hint of special excitement in the Tweet -- not even one ! eta: Cassie your post nailed it IMO. eta2: I am a marketer at my core. And Adam needs young fans who were born long after Queen mattered. If you are 18, you were born in 1993 -- 2 year after Freddy died. Queen would be your parents or (shudder) grandparents music. Adam want to be a pop star and current. It just make no sense to me as a marketing move -- even for the UK market.

Q3, always the voice of reason. Thank you. Adam/Queen makes no sense whatsoever.

Can't stop myself from trying to brainstorm various options from presenting a particular award or performance (or having a video clip saying words maybe as part of a tribute), to being part of a tribute performance (maybe with a couple of guest vocalists, like the Aretha tribute at the Grammys), to something more?? Also wondering how "european" vs. british these award shows skew. This year's is broadcast from Belfast, Adam's not known in the UK, but is much more in the rest of Europe it seems. lol I just found myself wondering why he didn't use an exclamation point *pulls self back from the brink of cray thought processes* Multiple guest vocalists is a good guess. And to the question of why no !!!! Maybe it's supposed to be a surprise and he's keeping it close to the vest as possible while giving us a heads up. He knows we would be pissed if he performs and we found out after the fact? That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

They love to "discover" music we have known for years. Believe it or not, they enjoy the music of groups like Queen, Journey, Beatles, etc. Yes, they love the pop hits and the rap crap that is currently on the radio, but they still appreciate some of the music from the past. (Glee has helped with this. ) My DD was born in 1992 and she knows many of Queen's greatest hits, as do her peers who are around the same age.

Gaga just recently opened the VMA's with "You and I" with Brian May backing her on guitar. There has been rumor (not realistic) articles about Brian May wanting her to front Queen doing the rounds in the gossip press last month based on an interview he gave at the BMI awards. She also dueted with Tony Bennet memorably on a classic, not her own song. Of course Gaga's in her own league, but I just don't buy that singing onstage with Queen would at all hurt Adam's marketing/PR to young pop fans.

I spend a large part of my life tracking the likes and knowledge of 15 to 29 year olds -- this is just not true. When asked about classic rock, they say things like... "my dad loves.....". Even Adam learned about Queen from his dad's albums. Adam said his single will explode in November. I believe it will explode in November. My sites are solely on his NEW NEXT music.
