@jamesinrehab: Just listening to @adamlambert new album..... All uptempo apart from 2 ballads & 1 midtempo. Some old skool funk! It sounds, from other tweets, that they are playing 6 songs for him. If he has 6 potential singles That.Is.Phenomenal!

I have been reading the reaction here to the delayed single release and I understand the disappointment and wondered why I wasn't feeling it. So here is what I have figured out. I absolutely love the direction he is now going with the album as evidenced by the OUT article. I think that it is fabulous that he consciously sat down and said I want predominantly dance/upbeat music as opposed to the more "dark" ballady music but I need to determine how I can do this and still have it meld with my completely phenomenal voice. (OK, I said that not him and that is not to say that there won't be ballads because I am sure there will be.) If you listen to top 40 radio right now, a transition is occurring away from the auto-tuned crap of Mike Posner et al and also the collaborations meme is peaking. Adele's songs have been instrumental in that change but as much as I love her songs, there is no way you can dance or party to them. For me, she is an HAC artist who smashed into Top 40 because people are desperate for good singers. Bruno Mars also feeds into the good singer transition but his music is just a little 'croony'. The dance music right now is not 'phenomenal voice' friendly and that dance-style needs just a little longer to fade. So, what Adam is doing by going in a more funky direction is, depending on how you look at it, "NEXT" or completely old school. It is really a risk. I am thinking 'next' and am super excited to see how Adam has made funk modern. I am a funk lover from way back and although I want funk more than anything, I was a little concerned that radio was not quite ready and please don't throw things at me, nor would they necessarily accept a completely new direction from Adam. He is not yet a recognized trendsetter in music and I do not want there to be any hesitancy on the part of radio to accept or play his music. It is great that his management is playing the songs to the entertainment establishment all over the place and he needs time to do that. Also, November/December is the END of the year and I emphasize end because I think the collabs etc. will be over by then. Radio will be so sick of Holiday music and the same ol' same ol' that they will be ready, and so will the listeners, to party. The upshot of this whole essay is that January is a new year for a new sound and as much as I want new music from Adam, I think the timing is better if he waits irregardless of what other litigious crap is going on. FYE was Adam testing the waters as a Pop Star, this next album is Adam finding his unique voice and I, for one, am ready to party.
So, really, honestly, the anticipation now makes me happier than I was before. It is going to be good.Yay LindaG23's whole post.

I know A LOT of fans in this fandom of all personality types, and I don't think I know ONE who wants new music purely for their "own stimulation." susiefierce--this may sound weird but it's possible that I'm one of those fans who wants new music purely for my own stimulation. Let me explain what I mean by that. Basically, I'm not at all concerned about the delays in the single/album release for Adam's sake. I really think that the most important thing to him (and the most important thing to me for his sake) is that he releases a product that he's completely happy with and proud of. I genuinely don't care if the timing of his release in some way prevents his career from being launched into the stratosphere (unlikely) because I really don't care if he's launched into the stratosphere and, astronaut-shaman styling notwithstanding, he's given me no particular indication that the stratosphere is somewhere he wants to live. He seems more than happy with his lifestyle as it is right now, and as long as he's got enough success to continue having the professional and personal opportunities he's got at the moment ( I'm confident that this album will be good enough to win him that much, regardless of release timing) then that's good enough for me when thinking about it in terms of Adam's interests. The only reason I want NEW MUSIC NOW is that I'm impatient and want to hear the damn stuff for my own stimulation. But then I think about how much more stimulated I'll be because Adam delayed enough to have Pharrell Williams on the album, and then enough to have Nile Rodgers on the alubm, etc, etc, and my stimulation thanks my patience for holding out a little longer, even viewed solely from my own greedy perspective. When I consider the original rumors, that Adam would be releasing an album of songs "like IIHY and WWFM" because "that's what seemed to be working," written (presumably not by him) while he was on tour, recorded in a rush of exhaustion in the months after the GNT, and released in the Spring of 2011, I am endlessly grateful for the delays. Just think about how different (and inferior) that product would have looked!) In part (as a supposedly "creative" person who spends an awful lot of time faffing about and not creating anything : I disagree that it doesn't take time to make a great product. Certainly you're right that amazing things can be created in a few moments of brilliance, and I am a FIRM believer in the inspirational power of deadlines, but sometimes a lot of empty stewing happens before the actual creative moments, and I do think a product that is revisited over time and edited and thought over and revisited and edited again tends to be very clearly better. Adam may be writing and recording these songs in a few days, but by his own description he's taking the time to return to them later, rerecord a vocal, change up the beat, and reconsider. And on a larger scale the same thing has clearly happened with the album as a whole. And I for one am thrilled that it has. FYE was great fun, but I am expecting this album to be much much better than FYE, and I think that is an expectation I can take straight to the bank, precisely because of the time and care and obvious thoughtfulness Adam is putting into it. For that, I can wait until January (sticking to my optimistic guns)!!! ;D (I want to add, Susiefierce, that I nevertheless totally get where you're coming from and thought it was well-put--I just wanted to fess up to being one of those fans who, at this stage, is totally in it for herself--Adam will be more than fine, I'm just worried about getting mine!) ETA: Linda--yes, dude, exactly, and oh my god these London tweets are keeeeelling me.

Hi gelly, I really appreciate people who are worried because Adam is not established, and they are scared his fanbase will dminish. I must admit im worried if he doesnt have the songs that showcase his talent on his new album - thats why i want him to take his time (to a point). I want his stuff to go to number one! The people i dont get so much are those who are bored and want more stimulation from adam and want it now and then put pressure on him by acting like he's let them down somehow. that "aww you promised!" attitude. promises are made to be broken in the creative world cos the muse is fickle. She doesnt give under pressure. It would make his album worse if he allowd those people to pressure him I know A LOT of fans in this fandom of all personality types, and I don't think I know ONE who wants new music purely for their "own stimulation." They want it because they are heavily invested in Adam personally and emotionally and only want the absolute best for him. Also, because we are so invested, we have been locked into a state of limbo and unknowing and I think most of us just want that to end and get the show on the road and hear all this fantastic new music he's been telling us about for MONTHS. We want to be a part of the ride, not the little kids left at home being told, "It's not your turn yet." And also, many of us are artists, writers, musicians and professionals – or work or live with them closely and we "get" the creative process. Many of us have been working with it since longer than Adam has been alive. We also get legal entanglements, timing logistics and corporate mergers. We do not live in a vacuum where our only existence is to be a fan of Adam's. I've been listening to FYE for two years with very little fatigue; it is an excellent album that was written in a few months. Some of the best work is done on the fly for an artist – this is where instinct and guts take over and you don't have the luxury of second-guessing. Am I glad he's had this time to enjoy the process? Certainly. I just don't believe extended periods of time result in a better product. Many of these songs (we know by their working timelines) are written in a day or two, recorded in a day or two and finished up here and there. They are turned around very quickly on the average. Now, I do believe launching a worldwide marketing campaign takes a tremendous amount of time and logistics – not to mention meeting and greeting with tons of "gatekeepers" – PDs, editors and producers. That I totally understand. All I ask is that he keep us updated. If it's not going to happen, tell us. We've dealt with three different single delays so far. Were we frustrated, disappointed and crushed? Yes, for a few days, but we picked up and moved on and kept going. Taking forever to rip off the bandage does NOT make it better for anyone. I really don't understand this viewpoint. It just sounds like fan entitlement to me and a lot of anger. I think Adam probably believed the single would come out in November and felt confident to say that, so I don't think he's stringing us along without a care nor is he not keeping us updated. That's just completely false. Look at David Cook and Kris Allen. Their fan's get nothing. Adam is great at communicating with us even if it's not always something we want to hear, but as Adam says "entitlement is not sexy". :

I am surprised that a delay in his album is a big concern for anyone. In the book writing world, you can take years - if the quality of the book is good enough, among other things, it will make a splash. I dont get the sense that all top level artists crank out albums very quickly. Take Gaga: 2 year gap between fame monster and born this way Madonna: 2 or 3 year gap between all albums except with first two There are plenty of other examples! Think about the creative inspiration it takes to create stuff. Its not a practical thing that has a well structured plan ahead of time and follows precise deadlines for every brick laid. Its not something that can be churned out by rote (unless you want it to SOUND like that). Artists chisel and chisel away and throw stuff out and start from scratch again until satisfaction is reached. I know Adam and his company will be concerned that an energised fanbase will start to fade away if the album doesnt come out soon. I know i never would - there's too much that man has going for him. And even if some parts of the fanbase start fading, a great album will revive interest. It really isnt about how long it takes (dont take that too the extreme I mean within a reasonable timespan) but how good its quality is. To be honest, it bugs me when I hear fans getting upset when there's a delay in the process. It has only been ONE YEAR since he finished his tour. You try writing a bloody good album in that time. I thought FYE was very good for what went into it (very little time! and lots of marketing imperatives). Now he wants to be more honest and creative. It takes time. Delays are natural and inevtiable with artistic work. I know fans are hungry for stuff from him, but it starts to get... demanding. even commodified - like ordering Van Gogh paintings by the meter. I dont think thats a great energy for any artist we love to have to experience. Not someone who gives 110 per cent every time he performs and seems to spread so much love and regard for others! Surely we can give him space to go deep and wide and produce something bloody brilliant? What deadlines are pressuring us so that we feel we have to push him so? Good grief...why do we always have to get into "This is how you are supposed to be a fan' palaver!!....Think I will get some work done now....and trust me, that is a good thing! I just moved into my new apt and am drowning in boxxes. Don't get too rambunctious....

I truly believe that Adam does love and care about his fans and hates to disappoint them/us. I believe he tells us what he can when he can. And that's good enough for this fan. 8-) I adore him.

Whew! Finally caught up with today's thread. I go away for a few days and my ability to speed read and follow all the highs and lows at ATop atrophies. This stanning is hard work! crazyoldgal asked a vocal question about Adam's EMA performance. If you are interested in my response, check out the Vocal Masterclass thread. adamtopia.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=vocal&thread=28&page=22#117459
