Now that Sauli is a contestant on Dancing on Ice, those of you who watch the performance clips are exposed to a lot of Finnish music that certainly is not familiar to you. Also there's a musical guest who, at least in the beginning, is also a guest judge. I'll be posting some YTs of their music. Week 1 they had Jenni on the show, both on stage and on ice (!) and on the panel. JENNI VARTIAINEN Born in 1983, sold double platinum with her first record and three times as much with her 2nd, the 3rd one will be released this week. A couple of her songs in chronological order, last the song she sang on DOI week 1. Ihmisten edessä (In front of people) 2007 This song became a gay anthem because it tells about how afraid she is walking hand in hand with her love in public. But her love (in high heels) squeezes her hand a little bit tighter and tells her that "don't you mind their glances (staring), those people don't belong to our story. What we have is rare and they don't know shit". www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKidLh1Ryq4En haluu kuolla tänä yönä (I don't want to die tonight) 2010 "I'm a work in progress and not ready yet, I can change and mend my ways given the chance..." www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5WrHOy1J84Missä muruseni on (Where my sweetheart is) 2010 'Please, dear Wind, go there where my sweetheart is, tell him that I love him, how I miss him, and that I'm still waiting.' www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO0p_U1w89Awith lyrics (fan video, pics mostly from Northern Finland = Lapland) www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtKhhaeBq50Junat ja naiset (Trains and women) 2013 Both trains and women are made for rolling (born for walking, moving forward). www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjfVme5npco

DOI week 2, musical guest, guest judge ANTTI TUISKU Born in 1984, sometimes called 'Finland's Adam Lambert', 3rd place in Finnish Idol 2003. He makes pop music for people to dance to and is a good dancer himself. His 9th studio record, Toisenlainen tie (Different path or Another kind of road) was released in May 2013. En kiellä (I won't deny you) 2009 I'm waiting for you to arrive by taxi, wondering what lie it is this time that you told at home. Where is this leading, do I really believe you'll be choosing me? You don't feel good there but you're also running away from here and I can't get you to stay. Chorus: I don't want to deny knowing you, I want you to be all mine. I'm dying when you go but claiming it's ok. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIHr2YUS3mEJuuret (Roots) 2009 We exchanged letters keeping our friendship alive after I moved to the city. You were right, I'll return to my roots one day. But now there are new people living here, I wonder where you are. I was searching myself and I found that my place is here. Chorus: We planted a tree together, it's growing stronger and its roots are firmly planted here (- and so are mine). www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf2Qit5gGPQHyökyaalto (Tidal wave) 2010 Do you believe in dreams or things happening at random? Don't be afraid, we're in this together. It would be foolish to run from your destiny. Chorus: I knew we would meet again, and suddenly, heart does what it wants, love is a tidal vawe rushing to shore. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScCShsNFwgIJää tai mee (Stay or go) 2013 Love doesn't have to be difficult, it's right if it feels right. Please don't play with my feelings, don't torture me. I asked for love but got sorrow, you need to decide. You are pondering in vain, it's no use to reason with feelings. I can't change your heart even though I shout: Love me! Chorus: Stay or go, do decide, say yes or no. I'm withering away waiting for you (your decision). Stay, stay, stay - or go. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HClgBL2RxLA

For some reason Antti Tuisku did not perform on DOI week 2 and played only the role of a guest judge. The show started with a pro ice dance pair performing to Vicky Rosti's cover of 'I will survive' by Gloria Gaynor. It was a hit for her in 1979, here's her live performance in 2010. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMNJy2ZDFvYWeek 3 guest judge was movie director Dome Karukoski (born in 1976). His mother is Finnish and his father is George Dickerson (Blue Velvet, Hill Street Blues). He has four movies released earlier and a new one out now starring Peter Franzén and Laura Birn. The theme was movie music. As the music last week was Finnish, now the selection was all from abroad ranging from Godfather and Bond via Moonwalker and Dirty Dancing to Dreamgirls and Pirates of the Caribbean. Week 4 (Oct 19) guest judge and musical guest will be Robin, 'Finland's Justin Bieber'. He is born in 1998, has released two very successful albums, working on third and opened for JB in Oslo and in Helsinki last April. DOI week 5 musical guest is Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sana. Their music is based on Duke Ellington's late works and Buddy Rich Big Band's energetic sound from the sixties. What is exceptional is that the young musicians combine traditional big band with rap.

DOI week 6 guest judge will be Olli Herman who is a singer in a glam metal band called 'Reckless Love'. The band is also the musical guest of the show this week. The band started playing in 2001 but their debut album was published in 2010. They've performed in the UK, Latvia, Italy and Japan for example. They are nothuge but doing ok I think. The singer embraces pretty and fierce... even loses his shirt sometimes. Their sophomore album, 'Animal Attraction', videos are shot in LA (I guess with SPK guest Jaakko Manninen), also in 2011 they performed in The Viper Room there. 'Hot' www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV8wPokZNigAnimal Attraction www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC9NqHb4tj8Third album, 'Spirit' came out in August 2013. First single is 'Night On Fire'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aNTU_xrBGgThe new single is 'So Happy I Could Die' www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7K_H0KDUZM
