Can anyone here advise me on a thoughtful gift to send someone who just had a double mastectomy? She is 500 miles away, so I can't just drop by. I had a double mastectomy and a previous student of mine sent a bouquet in a large coffee mug. I use the mug everyday and it reminds me of her. Now that I am living without a bra I know how men get dressed so fast!

Depending on her personality....a gift certificate to a local tattoo artist. A gift certificate to the next show of female comedians. Or a beautiful, flattering cozy sweater or sweat shirt.

I hope Lil Nas X sees and appreciates the support Adam has given him. I still have AMA-related PTSD where Adam is concerned, and I remember looking for support for him from the industry and seeing mostly crickets. I will grant that in Adam's case, he was a newbie and there was probably no small amount of resentment that he was given that opportunity to begin with, but still...I hurt for him. People may call that AMA performance "a walk" now, but at the time it qualified as a dangerous run - and he almost lost everything. I will never change my opinion that it had a permanent negative effect on his U.S. career, and it's a testament to his talent and his personality that he emerged from it as well as he did. You are me. Agree with everything you said here. I still cannot make myself watch videos of that night. I get so mad at how he was treated.

I have mugs for all different stages of my life and I love them all.

I like the coffee mug idea since you can use it as you like. I rotate my Adam Lambert mug and my Barbra Streisand mug. Would certainly add something like this to the rotation.

I don't know what Lil Nas X thinks of other gay artists or the doors they broke down. But he was fighting with some fans a few weeks ago when someone said he was using gay to advance his career. He cockily said they could not name 5 gay artists who had been successful in the last 10 years. Yikes. It did not go over so well. Some threw out Adam's name, several drag queens but I was surprised at no mention of SS or Frank Ocean (maybe they are just viewed as successful artists, period?) But like others, the AMA's still hurt because it almost took away his career. And yes, I do believe it hurt him in the US. But Adam will always have the first #1 album in the US as an out gay artist. And he doesn't need to show how gay he is 24/7 for people to appreciate his talent. Adam's vocal ability is a thing of wonder even if he never got the great radio support. He is a gay artist but also a great artist. Period.

Thanks everyone for the gift suggestions! What do you think of this Shell Pillow? Would it be something a woman who just had a double mastectomy use? www.theshellpillow.com/

Oh, I like those...I didn't even know those existed. I think that would be a very lovely gift. Years ago, my boss's wife had a double mastectomy, and the whole office chipped in to gift her a spa treatment for when she was recovered.

Well, I hope Lil Nas X enjoys his 5 minutes of fame, because there is no guarantee that he'll enjoy longevity, especially if his sexuality is all he brings to the table. I have no idea how talented he actually is, but even with mega talent, success is not guaranteed. He might not want to be quite so cocky about it. Longevity in the music business seems to be a crap shoot...I'm glad Adam is exploring other avenues for his creativity...I think that's very smart. The way I look at it, there is a fine line between trying to break down the barriers for LGBTQ community and using your sexuality to try and advance your career (looking at you, Demi). ETA; Before I get yelled at, yes this is entirely MY opinion, especially the one about Demi lol. I don't follow her, but she sure is trying to stay in the spotlight...just sayin'.
