Sorry I haven't checked in. I am having a slow start, but I am moving in the right direction. I have been eating a little less and a little better. I have not been exercising, but I've been more active -- working hard on house cleaning and organizing. I am working on getting all areas of my life cleaner, healthier, and more organized. Baby steps.

I'm having a terrible week! KUDOS to all of you that are so motivated and dedicated! That is my major problem, putting into action what I need to to reach my goals. I still haven't decided on an exercise plan, I have lots of paperwork and reports to complete this month. I made brownies for hubby the other night and couldn't resist eating a few of them.
Maybe the rest of the week will be better for me.
I love this thread, because it is a place I can come every day and get new ideas, and find out about everyone elses successes!
Thanks Jablea!
And Irish: I need to loose 40 lbs total to reach my "ideal" and healthy weight. this is weight I have been carrying for 20 years now. I am just starting out with what I think is a realistic goal for me by March 20. (15 lbs)

mahailia, would it help you to brainstorm an exercise plan here? I'm thinking a list of things you think you could do, equipment you have, places you could go. Maybe "we" can be your personal trainer.

There is no gym or pool within 100 miles, but there is a track at the highschool in town (30 miles). Oh, no ice skating rinks either! I have yoga and pilates tapes, and Hip Hop Abs, which is a fun dance/workout video. I don't know if I have the stamina to keep up with it anymore though. I have XBox Kinnect with sports games on it that might be fun, like track and field events, tennis, football, boxing, etc. I love the darts, but not much activity in "throwing" darts. I have exercise mats, but no free weights. Right now I have to do taxes and lengthy reports for 2 of the clubs I am in, so will be slaving at the computer, not stanning Adam though! Will be interested to see what yall come up with!

Mahailia ...
I find that my most successful exercise sessions are when I have DVD's or Netflix on the TV in front of me. A one hour TV show on Netflix without commercials is about 43 minutes, a really good workout. (I've just finished the 6th season of Bones.) I use a Roku to connect to Netflix through my home wireless network.
Do you have a wireless network at home? Could you do the same thing as the Roku with your X-Box?

Friday - Yoga MatWith two dogs in the house I was often not doing my exercises because I didn't want to haul out the vacuum cleaner right there and then until I got my yoga mat. I had always been of the opinion that they were only for rather stuffy high falutin' individuals until I discovered for myself that they aren't for show, they are essential. I used to throw down a blanket etc but now my knees thank me, my back thanks me, and I don't slide around in my socks. It's just so much nicer. If you haven't joined the crowd, get yourself one now. All the department and sporting good stores carry them or you can order one off the net.

Jabercises of the Day:
20 minute walk
20 standing side leg lifts (per side)
This is for mahailia or anyone else that needs a virtual trainer.
The 20 minute walk is best if all done at once but it is ok to break it up into smaller amounts if you are just starting to exercise.
For the side leg lifts, stand holding onto a chair or a doorway. Lift one leg sideways (knee straight) 10 times, do the other leg and repeat on both.
mahailia, I need you to save any gallon size milk jugs or regular sized bottles of water and tell me where and how tall your nearest stairs are. Do you work from home? And what size of balls do you have like perhaps a basketball?

JK - what in the world is a Roku? I have wireless and Netflix thru our XBox, but it doesn't work very well, keeps freezing and rebooting for about the first 15 min of a program. I have lots of taped programs, but would have to ff through the commercials. I do have 1st season of NCIS on DVD that I haven't played yet. What kind of work out do you do while you are watching TV?
Jablea - my dog ate all the balls. But I have milk jugs. I have plenty of stairs, 17 steps to the 2nd floor, they are 7" high, they are in the foyer, Also 4 steps going out the back door, they are 6" high. But I do have a step stool that is 9" high, but will only hold one foot at a time. I am retired, but "work" at home on the ranch, feeding the horses, entails sometimes carrying 50 - 70 lb bales of hay, and 40 -50 lb sacks of feed. It doesn't take very long, about 10 minutes of work, the rest is driving around in the pasture, getting out of the truck to open gates, etc. I have noticed the past few years I can't pick up as much weight, and tire easily, which is why I want to work on strength and stamina.
I really have no excuse for not exercising, just need to do it now!
Thanks for the work out suggestions, will start today!

A Roku is a little square box (about 3" x 3" x 1" high) that connects to your wireless network and to your TV (with HDMI if your TV has it, otherwise with standard red/white/yellow cable), it lets you play Netflix, YouTubes, Hulu, Amazon videos, etc., on your TV, maybe similar to what your XBox does (I'm not sure exactly what an XBox does on the Internet).
My exercise is a "Tony Little Gazelle," a cheap version of a NordicTrak. It is the version that has the built-in resistance, so I can get a pretty good aerobic workout in 45 minutes, but no impact on my joints. It can also give the arms and legs a pretty good workout, depending on how much effort you put into it. Treadmills and exercise bikes kill my lower back, but this seems to work OK ... it was recommended by my physical medicine doctor when I was having some tailbone issues a few years ago. It has been sitting in my bedroom gathering dust for quite awhile, I'm trying to get motivated to get back up on it regularly. I guess that's one of the goals I should set (per Jablea's suggestion up-thread) but right now I'm too excited about planning the trip to LA to see Leno!!
