Checking in...Down 3 this week, total -6.
A comment on the diet doldrums...sometimes you actually need to eat more to break out of a plateau. If you aren't eating enough your body goes into a kind of starvation mode and hangs on to every last calorie put in. The best way to prevent this from happening is to eat every 2 to 3 hours to keep your blood sugar regulated and your insulin levels steady.

diet doldrums?
1) What one food high in sugar or carbohydrate can you cut out of your diet? Are you still drinking any sugar sweetened beverages or fruit juices? That would be a perfect place to start.
2) What can you do to kick up the intensity of your exercise? Not exercise more, just get breathing a little harder, sweating a little more? Walk fast for a bit? Find a steep hill or stairs to walk up? Lift heavier weights?

Mahalia - I think we were at the same Super Bowl party. Menu was the same. LOL I had wine instead of beer, though. I'm even for the week ( total loss 5.5 lbs ) and didn't get all my exercise in because of a sore muscle in my hip. (Hope it's a muscle and not the hip - : ) I've been super good about low carb stuff. I guess I'm eating too much legal food and not moving enough. It isn't rocket science. hwc I think I'll take your advice and cut out one thing I've been eating that I tend to "over-do" - maybe the turkey jerky. One thing for sure, I'm sleeping better and eating more healthy. Lots of veggies and salad. I'm not scerd - I'm going to keep on keeping on and one morning maybe I'll step on the scale and be pleasantly surprised.

Do I have to check in? Difficult week on the food front with the weekend capped off with a Superbowl party. Still lost a half a pound for a total of 2.5 so far. Exercising 4 times a week now, and it is paying off with more energy and flexibility. hwc, thanks for the good info on the cholesterol breakdown. I am familiar with the data and appreciate your concise summary for all of us here. Just a little more info on fish oil supplements-from a cholesterol standpoint, it does more to lower triglycerides than increase HDL. HDL is very difficult to increase, and the best way seems to be exercise. Fish oil is also a great anti-inflammatory and can help arthritis sufferers. Look for an EPA + DHA total between 1000mg and 3000mg a day. The more concentrated the supplement, the less fishy and the fewer the number of pills needed daily. Hoping for an even better week...I will have to get these Superbowl Supersnacks out of the house for success though. Think green. Think strong. Think healthy.

goal 20 lbs. this week -1 lb. total 6.5 lbs.
The weight loss is going slower than I expected. But, making progress. And, doing a lot better with glucose readings. Eating healthy, feeling more energy !
I need to exercise more to get better results.
Good Luck this week everyone !

Check-In Week #4 -0 (zilch, nada) = -8T
:-[ I was baaaad this weekend, so I'm just lucky I didn't gain!
I walked 6 MILES on Sat! Gorgeous day, walked to light rail and went downtown and walked all over the place--AND had a great no-regrets lunch. Sun, however, I could barely move, and ate SB treats anyway. Fun weekend, but will have to make up for it this week! I REALLY want to lose the other 17 lbs. before the 20th=6 weeks left = only about -2.5 lbs/week. I CAN DO THIS!
Congrats to all who continued losing and for the rest of us--we CAN!!

Well for me it's as if the month of January didn't exist. My knee has been out of commission for the last couple of weeks and that has really cut into the exercising that I thought was working. I've also noted that my water consumption went way down. So physical therapy for the one and recommittment for the other will hopefully help.
