Hi irish and whoever else. Here are some ideas. They're all quite simple, so you might have thought of them already.
- chili - ground beef or shredded beef - beef stew - spaghetti squash instead of pasta with tomato sauce (sausage or ground beef in sauce - pork, beef, chicken, or shrimp stir fry (any veggies) - chicken breast split and stuffed with spinach and cottage cheese, topped with parm or provolone and baked - I use pork - much cheaper and you can't tell the difference - instead of veal for a francese, marsala or parm. When you pound the meat out thin, it feels like you're eating more (just don't put any breading on the meat) - fish francese is also very good - pasta with alfredo sauce (use low fat milk). Add veggies, shrimp or chicken - pan fried fish fillets - I use blackening seasoning - spicy, but tasty - baked fish fillets, topped with breadcrumbs mixed with olive oil, garlic and oregano - top a salad with cut up baked fish - make your own vinaigrette salad dressings with oil, vinegar and lots of fresh herbs (herbs freeze very well). - if you want to get a crispy crust on something without using flour or bread crumbs, dip it in corn starch and pan fry. Less calories. - beef braciole - beef pounded thin, stuffed with cheese and spinach, rolled, baked and served with tomato sauce. You can also do this with chicken. - meatloaf - don't add the breadcrumbs. - any veggie sauteed with garlic and olive oil - if you like spicy, pork or chicken marinated in Jamaican Jerk seasoning is yummy. - pasta salad with a little pasta and a lot of veggies. Instead of mayo, use olive oil with garlic, herbs and spices. Great with crumbled feta cheese. - instead of mayonnaise, put olive oil, lemon juice and some herbs in the food processor. It whips up to a mayo like consistency and is great for spreads on sandwiches, or dips for veggies. - fish chowder with low fat milk
Let me know if anyone wants specific recipes.

Whoops - I forgot to check in last week! My bad. (In all fairness, I was having major computer issues so that was a big distraction. All fixed now.)
I lost 0 pounds the past 2 weeks. I've lost 10 pounds so far, but now I'm stuck there. I know I need to drink more water & since I'm doing this lo-carb thing, I'm thinking I need to write down everything I'm eating just for a week or so - just to look at how much protein & actual calories I'm eating. Then again, it may just be a temporary plateau. I'm trying not to get discouraged! Now that I have my computer back I can go online & find some calculators that will make it easier to check carbs/protein/calories.
In any case, all the Adam promo has been a wonderful distraction! I've been pretty happy this week even though I didn't lose any weight! ;D

Trying to post again ( shame on me - managed to write two posts last weeks and failed to actually post it, fall asleep on my table :-[ ) Okay, checking in... still no progress or very little, maybe lost up to 1 kg (it keeps flickering in and out). I keep trying a couple of things to make it works, nothing helps :-/ Actually I'm not sure I'll be up to something drastic like more exercises or cut comforting food until: 1. I finish my current project that is going not so fast as I need it to and 2. the weather will change - for now we have around -25C and I just can't live on salads or juices being that cold. Last night was the coldest in the winter and I just had to eat some chocolate to feel human, not an icicle Freezing!!! Help!!!

Thanks sugaree, I got some good ideas. I forgot that I make braciole all the time. Just cause I am dieting doesn't mean I can't make if now. I will just leave out the cheese. I can still stuff with spinach and onions and garlic. I use salsa on my fish too. That tastes good on baked fish. Thanks for your ideas.

Stupid scale went crazy again. Every time I stepped on it, I got a different answer. Guess I'm really going to have to get another one. Doing some exercise but not enough. Hard to make myself get up and do it. Trying, Trying, Trying ........

I got a nice surprise this morning as I was down 1. Don't count me as too happy yet though because of the past weeks my total is -1 also. Yeah January was a dream and most of February too. But thankfully the trendline is heading back the right direction. Yeah. ooo cool ladyoz, you are getting really close to your end goal already. That's great. I know what you mean about having to dial it back. My rehab people keep shaking their heads at me because I keep doing things with my arms too when they want me to just concentrate on my knees. I mean I'm spending the time the upper half of me might as well be doing something too right. Hi irish, I've been reading about the new injection in the newspaper and looked it up online. Not there yet as they think we can fix it with muscle strengthening for now. Nice to know someone who's had good luck with it as you can never tell with most of the user reviews. flowergirl, yeah 50% is great. I've got to get an hdmi cable so I can hook the laptop up to the tv and shake my booty to some Adam videos. stampsgal, I understand about those up weeks. I have to chug my water or it just doesn't go down. And I'm still behind in my daily goal. I drink some tea and count that. oh, my DH got some of my frozen grape juice out (I freeze about 5 gallons from the garden every year), wonder if that would count as "juicing" ? lakato, you're another one that is doing great. I think we have more people almost at their goal than we did last year. Good thoughts on the intensity. I keep trying to go faster in my knee therapy exercises but they make me slow slow down. Very boring, but they up the intensity by adding leg weights for my leg lifts and changing up exercises. prism, I'm kind of like you. Just glad sometimes to hold it steady. We're going to have to rag on each other to get our motivation up. sugaree, thanks for the ideas. I'm salivating over the chicken breast split with the spinach and cottage cheese. Would have never thought of that combination. ginger, you've already lost a lot so I would worry at all about a plateau. In fact learning how to make a plateau your new set point is something I've read a few things about. It's something we'll all need to work on so we don't gain everything back. JanuarySnow, I feel for you. Trying to lose weight during the winter is hard enough without it being frigid. Can you do any warm liquid diets like soup? Put it in a coffee mug and use it as a hand warmer at the same time? Are you like me with work projects, sometimes I'm just shaking to get something in my mouth when the unexpected raises it's head. moncher, weigh to go grrl! hehe stardust, blaming it on the scale? lol. But you are halfway to your goal already so good job.

Jablea, I am trying to tell you this without sounding pushy, but I have had so much experience with my knees, and was actually unable to walk before I finally broke down and went to the local orthopedic doctors. Thankfully, my hip replacement and my knee shots have allowed me to walk pain free.
I have a long-time girlfriend who is in her 70's that lives in a retirement village here in Florida. We meet 2-3 times a year for dinner. And we skype all the time. She continually complained about her knee until she could not walk on it at all. She opted for physical therapy and went for therapy for months. I finally opened my mouth and insisted she go to an orthopedic doctor. She went, he gave her some shots in her knee (I don't think it was hyalgan) and she has been fine ever since. Her ortho doc wanted her to wait until all else failed to try the hyalgan. It has been at least 6-7 months since she has had any pain and is walking around normally still.
You may have already seen an orthopedic doctor and he recommended therapy. If so, please ignore what I have written. If you haven't seen an orthopedic doc, please do. There are so many things they can do to relieve the pain in knees and hips and you don't have to suffer.
I promise, I will never mention this again. I just know how awful and limiting the pain can be. I can remember laying on the floor and dragging my body to the couch. I couldn't walk on my left leg because of a bad hip and knee.

Stardust, have you checked for a battery in your scale. My scale was doing the same thing, and I never realized it had a battery. I was on my way to buy a new scale when I happened to turn it over and saw this little plate on the underside of the scale. I pushed it open and lo and behold, there was a battery in there. OMG, I sound like a Miss Know-It-All this morning. Sorry. I will stop now.
