I think "slamming" that idea is a bit overstated lol.

That's an argument that you can't win. The negative publicity that came Adam's way for even hinting that Nick Jonas was gay baiting was not worth the negative publicity. Even gay publications tried to paint him as being jealous of Nick tho Adam never named Nick. If someone is putting up the money, and hopefully the family estate agrees, they will cast who they want or who they think will work the best. Rami was perfect to play Freddie. I can't think of a gay actor who could have done it better.
Imo, they should expand the roles that gay actors can play and not restrict them to gay roles. I think in Adam's younger and thinner years, he would have been a great pick to be considered for Elvis. Tho I think Austin was wonderful in the role. But I hope Adam will get other opportunities that are not only gay related cause I think he would be believable in straight roles too. There are many non-effeminate gay actors who can play straight roles that are believable (Matt Bomer, Zachary Quinto, Wentworth Miller, etc.) Some actors have voiced displeasure at James Franco playing Fidel Castro. They said it should be a Cuban actor in the part instead. Where does it all end? It can come down to getting to cast who they want or not making the film at all. But I really would like to see more opportunities for gay actors and not have them vying for the few available parts or restricted to playing stereotypes. And tbh, I fould it painful to watch Billy Porter complain because Harry Styles was getting more credit for wearing a dress than he. Some battles are more worthy than others.

Well, at least when Adam says something, the media listens

I don't think an actor's sexuality necessarily determines whether he or she can do a good job in a role. Straight actors have been playing gay men for years and vice versa. I realize there is a heightened sensitivity about this issue in recent times. But good acting is good acting. I think that demanding that a gay actor play a gay role doesn't really do anybody any favors. I say let the best person for the role get the role. It usually works out pretty well.

Adam is wrong here. Gay actors have been playing straight for years and nobody even knew. It's called acting!!! So why the problem when it's the other way around?
