Adam is wrong here. Gay actors have been playing straight for years and nobody even knew. It's called acting!!! So why the problem when it's the other way around? Agree. It is funny that you say that. On one of my soaps that I have been watching for many years, I just recently found out that one of the straight married men and ruthless character's was gay in real life. Now that I know, he is still absolutely perfect for the part. Nothing has changed as he is a wonderful actor.

It's true straight men have been playing gay for years, problem is , they were in the closet. IMO, if it were known those men were gay, they wouldn't have gotten the part. Now they have a part for a gay icon and a straight man may be cast. Have they auditioned anyone, do they know who the best actor would be? I think it is odd Adam posted the comment, since I remember an interview several years ago where he said the same thing, acting is acting. Perhaps, more out gay men should get chances at being leading men. There are only a handful that presently get those roles.

It was probably just an off the cuff remark and the guy answered he would be honored to play George. Sorta like the time someone asked Adam about playing Elvis and it turned into he was trying to get the part along with Austin and Harry Styles and a few others. He wasn't. I hate that this non-movie has knocked his real publicity about Fairyland and High Drama off the radar, lol. When he gets the chance to give interviews about his project, he will likely be asked about a role he has no say in casting cause someone will put their money behind it and cast who they want. And it just gives people another shot to say he wanted the part thus the criticism. Not true but that never stopped the negative spin.

LOL. I never understood Adam's stated rationale for not playing Frank in Rocky Horror. Years before I ever heard of Adam, I was a huge Tim Curry/Rocky Horror Picture Show fan. I've seen the movie more times than I can count. Frank N Furter was many things, but he was not transgender - he was a "Sweet Transvestite" from (the planet of) Transexual, (in the galaxy of) Transylvania." He might not have been "much of a man," but he was a man, not a transgender woman. It seems to me that Adam couldn't have played Frank even if he'd wanted to - he barely had time to film his scene as Eddie just after ending the US leg of his Original High tour and before heading off for the European leg of the tour. He had to miss the American Idol series finale to film Rocky Horror.
Regarding Adam's comment about the potential George Michael casting...I mainly wish he hadn't said it in relation to a role he could easily be accused of wanting for himself - whether he actually does or not. The optics aren't great and may tend to obscure the point he was trying to make. I agree gay closeted actors playing straight roles isn't the same thing as a straight actor playing a gay role and usually getting lauded for their "courage" in doing so. Openly gay actors who get a lot of opportunities to play straight roles are few and far between, even now. I can see why Adam would like LGBTQ+ performers get the chance to tell their own stories, especially in a major mainstream film (which the George Michael film would undoubtedly be, if it were to happen). I don't think for one minute Adam is saying straight actors are incapable of playing LGBTQ+ roles, he's saying LGBTQ+ actors should be given the opportunity to play those roles and tell their own truth.
