Bringing this over from is from the early morning hours: I know only one thing for sure -- RCA cannot be happy with the single's performance. One sign that this is not the single that RCA hoped is that Adam did two important performances of the song on TV and the track did not move that far up the chart. BTIKM went up 700+ spots on itunes after these two performances! After watching every Idol that has a record contract releasing their singles over the past three years, I have come to the conclusion that late night talk shows NEVER give a song a substantial bump on the itunes charts! (even Kelly C.) Conan, Leno, Fallon, etc. barely register a blip on itunes after performances. Traditionally, Ellen or The View have given Adam bigger boosts on the itunes charts- just like Ellen did this time! If RCA was looking for something other than a 700+ spot gain, then they have not been watching what happens to songs after performances on shows like Leno and Ellen. They were expecting something that never happens.Ellen and Leno might have helped more IF RCA had constructed a sensible roll out plan for this single. BTIKM should have been released last week with tons of interviews, print media, and a big banner on itunes. Adam should have debuted his single on a major radio station. He should have had appearances last week and this week on SEVERAL morning shows and SEVERAL nighttime shows. RCA should have had several top 10 HAC and HAC stations lined up to add BTIKM this week. They should have already promised the big time radio stations exclusive acoustic radio shows, rights to first interviews, summer shows, etc. If RCA didn't already have these types of things lined up, it is failure on THEIR PART! They want better numbers? Then they need to do what record labels are supposed to do- Work the radio stations BEFORE the single comes out! The less than impressive sales numbers are not Adam's fault or his fan's fault. They are RCA's fault for having a shitty game plan! They've only had ONE YEAR to get it together! >:( Oh, and Toby K can bite me! He is FOS and nothing but a butthurt NAL stan! I love the title passive-aggressive-click-whore from yesterday's thread, because that is exactly what he is. I gotta say I agree with you. If RCA is not happy with airplay or sales results, it's on them. I've done a lot of work in new products, and when a company introduces a product they: - First, test the product idea and the product itself before launching it to make sure it is appealing to the target market - Second, after launch, focus on building awareness so that the target knows the product is available (because, of course, awareness drives purchase) RCA chose the first single and they are responsible for getting radio play. If BTIKM isn't being accepted by PDs, why didn't RCA test it with PDs first to make sure they would play it? And if sales are a disappointment, well, lack of radio play is going to depress awareness. The sales jumps after the Tonight Show and Ellen show that if people hear the song, sales will follow. Adam and RCA tweeting about the single release isn't going to be enough to build sufficient awareness to drive sales, and that's about all BTIKM had in terms of support until just the last 2 weeks. I'm not an expert in the music business, but I'm assuming that RCA had some sort of plan for the launch of BTIKM. I can't imagine that they would invest a lot of money in creating a project like Trespassing and then not spend any money to promote it. So, maybe there is more going on than we can see so far. But if they are truly disappointed in results to date, then they only have themselves to blame. ETA: BTW, this is not an angst post. I do believe that Trespassing will do well -- there has been lots of great feedback on the album. IF BTIKM isn't a hit, it sounds like there are lots of other songs that could be. Yay!

I was able to listen to this crap for 30 seconds, literally, and had to switch it off! He was disgusting! "Your wife is HOT!!!" "She will now be with you for the rest of your life!" As opposed to not having been with Kris for the rest of his life if he wasn't (moderately) successful in music business? Urggh. As an artist I would probably take Seacrest last Friday over this... I'm not going to go to Toby's blog anymore, no more hits from me.

But if they are truly disappointed in results to date, then they only have themselves to blame. You know part of the problem I think is that they are fight the front line in both the UK and the US at the same time. I can't help but wonder if they expected the US to take care of itself or at least limp along at a decent speed so that they could then come back from the UK and hit the stations for a blitz before the album drop. The "king" has some work to do yet. As I said prior, I don't think BtIKM is any better or worse than WWFM, so there is no reason why we shouldn't expect this single do do something similar. Additionally, Toby is talking from a Top40 perspective, once the song gets a foot hold in HAC, it may have a smother climb.

Ok. This is gonna be totally OT, so I'll understand if the admin deletes my post. I just wrote my test in school and have a very bad feeling of it. A person studies all days long and things go completely wrong. Don't know what to do right now as it was very important... Thank you all for this fandom which is the only thing that always makes me smile. At least, I'm happy that Adam is happy.ETA: Please, don't be angry with me because of my depressive mood... Maybe troublesome people should have never been born. That's the truth. awww... pats ame... No one is angry with you, bb... and you're NOT troublesome! Here, just stare at this face for a minute and you'll feel a little better!

Anyway I find both accounts very interesting, that's why I 'm quoting wal. Check out their websites. The first one ESTER DEAN'S WRITING DISCOGRAPHY she has some really great names there. And the second account, it's really great that Adam is interested in following an account that has to do with improving even more his voice. I still think the 1st song released should have been a fast paced one. I am a HUUUGE Adam fan, but I have to say BTIKM didn't pull me in like I would have hoped it would. (don't hate, just my opinion). I love the song don't get me wrong. I'm just saying for radio. I REALLY want to hear myself (and others) saying 'OMG, THEY PLAY THAT SONG EVERY 5 MINUTES' <3 He deserves this so much.

Q3 I broke your post down a bit so I could respond without getting confused:
What do you base this opinion on exactly? The song is #41 on HOT AC with a positive spin bullet and upward trajectory movement. It had sold 63K copies (that we know of) with little or promo/radio play. So PLEASE tell me what exactly a hit in the making looks like from an artist with ONE album under his belt that produced one pretty significant hit and another moderate hit?
IMO you CAN NOT compare an artist who has been in the business TEN YEARS and has hit after hit after hit on radio to an artist like Adam. Kelly has a proven track record and a very large fanbase and yet her fans were VERY disappointed in the first week sales of MKIA and thought the song was a sure flop.
Adam's album was out already and people were purchasing SINGLES instead of the whole album and if I recall WWFM was the most popular song on the album because people knew it was the single already. In addition, he'd also already performed the song on David Letter and the Early Show prior to Ellen on 12/1/09. Morning shows always provide a bigger boost than afternoon/late night shows do.
Please don't take offense Q3 but you're wrong way more than you're right on a lot of things so I don't see your "truth" as anymore relevant than anyone else's.
I do think that RCA/Adam is far more concerned about the overall success of the album and not this single. That said, it's week 1 of the official push to radio and he's just now starting promo. It seems smart to me to sit back and relax. It's not like anything we do can change the course of this album/singles destiny. It'll be what it's going to be. It's already written in the stars IMO.

Well, I think that it is part of our human nature to obsess and worry and project worst case scenarios. I remember reading some article that said that the "glass half full" and "glass half empty" folks actually had different wiring or chemicals in their brain. I know that this tendency to worry and persevered tends to run in one side of my family. Fortunately it is balanced by a positive outlook on the other side, so I can usually keep an even keel. I don't think it is helpful to tell a worrier not to worry. For every positive point you make, they have a counter argument. However, I do believe that one can, to a certain extent, tell oneself not to worry. One can choose, when those thoughts arise, to set them aside and think of something positive. One can choose to act in positive ways. Not meaning to preach or scold. But, I find that when I am surrounded by people ragging on things, complaining, and worrying, I fall into the pattern. If I walk away and go to my happy place (usually listening to Adam's voice and playing with my dogs), I feel much better. And the more I engage in positive thinking and imaging, the more it becomes a habit. For me, it does not help to think of all the negatives in order to prepare myself in case I am disappointed. If the disappointment comes, it is not lessened by my being "prepared." So, I may as well take a positive approach. It will make the two months of waiting for the album release much happier. I firmly believe I am gonna love the album even more than FAYE. I am enthusiastically anticipating being blown away by OIL and Underneath, and dancing my butt into a smaller size pair of pants to several of the other tracks. It's gonna be fun.
Cassie I agree with so much of what you said in your post. I especially can relate to the part in red. I, too, when I have certain thoughts, chose to put them aside and think of something positive...my happy place that you talk about. It's my safe place, happier place, and I'm able to feel more calm and peace. It gives me the strength to face RL in a better way. Now bring on Trespassing so I can laugh, smile, cry, and dance my a$$ off!! ;D
