Actually, I don't think 24 hrs of angst is too bad. We all have to process the information available, evaluate it and decide what to do or think about it. I believe that Adam will be fine. And I expect the RCA is out there fighting for Adam as we speak. We need to continue to request as appropriate and give hits and comments to the stations that are playing BTIKM. However, I have also decided to stay off twitter and certain idol blogs for a while, as I don't need the irritation.

My thoughts echo joky, haribert and wonderstruck. It is interesting that we all seem to be in agreement that the much of the music on radio is crap, yet angst that adam's music does not get much radio play! i often love artists that the masses don't embrace or if they do become commerciallly successful their appeal to me slips somewhat. my 18yr old and I were having just this conversation this morning about adam and "popularity". When I told him how I felt about commecial success he said "mom you are so indy!" To qualify though, I like plenty of pop/rock stars because i like their music. Radio play ad naseum and billions of view on the youtubes. Is this really what it all about? My favorite album of the year is by a band that will never be heard on the radio (although a song of theirs was featured in a Target ad lol) and will most likely never have a tv performance. I want Adam to make a comfortable living and more importantly keep on making music. As long as he can put out a record and TOUR i am good. #TRESSPASSION I was writing my own post and then found yours. So I'm just going to say. DITTO!

I have been thinking a bit about Adam's path -- and his fans.
Success in the music business can come in many ways -- but most important is critical acclaim and creating music that matters to people over time. Based on everything that we have heard about this album, Adam is on his way to achieving that.
Is it easy -- no.
Does it seem to be harder for Adam than some other pop stars? Yes, I think so. But that is because Adam is a very unique talent who does not fit into any box.
For example, he can be frontman for QUEEN and sing is his own style and still be compared to Freddy. He performed BTIKM on Ellen and I did not see one critical comment about his performance online. (I am sure there was one but I classify it as universal acclaim.)
I see no reason to angst of what this single does on the radio or in sales -- if it is a hit, great. If not, they will release another single. It will all work out.

Wonderstruck,
Again, ITA. I cannot even believe that this alleged "RCA disappointment" is being given credence by the people who said repeatedly the song wouldn't be promoted or pushed until adds date. That has been less than 24 hours and suddenly RCA is pointing fingers?? That makes no sense.
They're the ones who decided to release in a week more bitter than a December winter night with ZERO promo other than iTunes banner and Adam's tweets. It received excellent reviews across the board and then they put an adds date an entire month away.
And even now that he is doing promo, it's been two live performances and sometimes no mention of the single in interviews. So as iridium very clearly and accurately said
IF
what Toby alleges is true, then it's on RCA. This was their strategy, timeline, breakdown, etc. They gave us no direction on what they did or didn't want from us, so I don't know why anyone is saying the numbers are "disappointing." There is nothing remotely relevant to compare them to.

Sooo much exciting and beautiful news... Thanks to all the ninjas who keep us all informed ! AMEN!! I understand where Aspen is coming from about the Debbie Downers. I, also, tend to be a positive person who waits until something bad happens before I deal with it. My illustration has always been that given 6 months to live, do you enjoy it or whine because it's only 6 months. The world is divided into those who look at the best case scenario and those who look at the worst, often with the explanation that they are being 'realistic." Screw being realistic, being optimistic is better for your health. Just as with FYE, which I loved as a single, if BTIKM has problems, they can move on. Aspen's point about knowing exactly who will be Eeyore is also true - no naming names. "It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily. "So it is." "And freezing." "Is it?" "Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately." Ha, just to lighten the mood and not sound like I'm preaching.

Bringing this over from is from the early morning hours: BTIKM went up 700+ spots on itunes after these two performances! After watching every Idol that has a record contract releasing their singles over the past three years, I have come to the conclusion that late night talk shows NEVER give a song a substantial bump on the itunes charts! (even Kelly C.) Conan, Leno, Fallon, etc. barely register a blip on itunes after performances. Traditionally, Ellen or The View have given Adam bigger boosts on the itunes charts- just like Ellen did this time! If RCA was looking for something other than a 700+ spot gain, then they have not been watching what happens to songs after performances on shows like Leno and Ellen. They were expecting something that never happens.Ellen and Leno might have helped more IF RCA had constructed a sensible roll out plan for this single. BTIKM should have been released last week with tons of interviews, print media, and a big banner on itunes. Adam should have debuted his single on a major radio station. He should have had appearances last week and this week on SEVERAL morning shows and SEVERAL nighttime shows. RCA should have had several top 10 HAC and HAC stations lined up to add BTIKM this week. They should have already promised the big time radio stations exclusive acoustic radio shows, rights to first interviews, summer shows, etc. If RCA didn't already have these types of things lined up, it is failure on THEIR PART! They want better numbers? Then they need to do what record labels are supposed to do- Work the radio stations BEFORE the single comes out! The less than impressive sales numbers are not Adam's fault or his fan's fault. They are RCA's fault for having a shitty game plan! They've only had ONE YEAR to get it together! >:( Oh, and Toby K can bite me! He is FOS and nothing but a butthurt NAL stan! I love the title passive-aggressive-click-whore from yesterday's thread, because that is exactly what he is. I gotta say I agree with you. If RCA is not happy with airplay or sales results, it's on them. I've done a lot of work in new products, and when a company introduces a product they: - First, test the product idea and the product itself before launching it to make sure it is appealing to the target market - Second, after launch, focus on building awareness so that the target knows the product is available (because, of course, awareness drives purchase) RCA chose the first single and they are responsible for getting radio play. If BTIKM isn't being accepted by PDs, why didn't RCA test it with PDs first to make sure they would play it? And if sales are a disappointment, well, lack of radio play is going to depress awareness. The sales jumps after the Tonight Show and Ellen show that if people hear the song, sales will follow. Adam and RCA tweeting about the single release isn't going to be enough to build sufficient awareness to drive sales, and that's about all BTIKM had in terms of support until just the last 2 weeks. I'm not an expert in the music business, but I'm assuming that RCA had some sort of plan for the launch of BTIKM. I can't imagine that they would invest a lot of money in creating a project like Trespassing and then not spend any money to promote it. So, maybe there is more going on than we can see so far. But if they are truly disappointed in results to date, then they only have themselves to blame. ETA: BTW, this is not an angst post. I do believe that Trespassing will do well -- there has been lots of great feedback on the album. IF BTIKM isn't a hit, it sounds like there are lots of other songs that could be. Yay! I agree with you -- the only thing on all of Trespassing that is out of Adam's control is the choice and promotion of the single. That is all on RCA. My only thought on why RCA choose this single is that it was strategic and is the track on the album that is most like Adam's biggest hit WWFM. IF the goal was to reposition Adam as a mainstream pop artist, the selection makes more sense I guess. I am also not angsting about it and I believe that BTIKM is doing it's job of reintroducing Adam in the biggest market the US. What I am wondering is if he will perform a new track in Austria? I am also not angsting.

I wonder where the video for BTIKM will be presented..Do we know if it will be introduced on VH! new singles TV??
I think the video will be key.. Adam seems to be drumming up album anticipation on both sides of the pond, not easy. He is going for International star and I believe that was always the plan. He is also working on doing more with Queen,so a lot of irons in the fire! It's all good and one way or another IMHO Adam is going to be a long term star. I think where I go wrong is in wanting him to be in the popularity league with Gaga,Adele,Katy & Bruno, this just might not be in the cards for Adam and might not be how his longevity will play out.
