I don't think this is accurate:Adam is moving up in both spins and Audience Impression in both HAC and CHR. He is 41 on HAC tonight and will probably be Top 40 by Friday. Nothing about this is bad. So nothing has happened negative besides people misinterpreting things and, IMO, panicing for no reason. Nope, I agree, he is moving up and that is good. But that movement is because up until now, he has been getting adds. He had a lot more HAC adds last week than he got this week and those increased adds last week probably contributed (at least in part) to movement this week. However, the fact is this week he saw a drop in adds on his adds date. He will have trouble climbing the charts if adds continue to decrease. The reason why I said it seemed like everything went to hell in a handbasket is that (to me at least) the drop seemed to come out of nowhere because up until this week we really hadn't heard much negative from radio about the song. I didn't expect it to get a tons of adds, but I did expect it to get more than the few that it got based on how well it was doing up until yesterday. And then all of a sudden to get the two DJs (albeit DJs with an agenda) twittering negative stuff about the song on the adds date all of a sudden seemed odd as well. That is why I am questioning what may have happened to decrease the adds this week. I'm not panicking. It could just be a fluke. If the adds double next week, I will first in line for the happy dance.

Q3 did The Grateful Dead have many #1 hits on radio? Now they definitely had a following and great concert success. Lots of huge rock acts from the 70's and 80's had little success on radio. Grateful Dead are an example of an album oriented band. They only had one radio hit but have dozens of albums and were a great concert act. There are a number of bands in this tradition -- like Phish. But Adam is a pop artist and with the increasing importance of track sales to pop artists, radio is very helpful to building a financially successful career. Adam has had 4 singles promoted to radio -- and all moved slowly --- IIHY was released on May 11, 2011 and peaked on October 2, 2011 -- 5 months. Thanks for the information.

I hope someone breaks the Youtube interview down into two segments. My older dialup computer can't handle a video that long at one time. I tried to play it through and it shut me down halfway thru. Can you download it and play it?

Twotrue, LOVED your post!!! You totally nailed the complexity of the entire situation and I didn't perceive your, "suddenly, everything has gone to hell" literally, but that was the sudden, inexplicable murmurings we were getting – whether it was from angsters, haters, random passive-aggressive DJ/asst. PDs, other PDs, the dreaded "sources close to the label" or those who were validating their contentions. I think the vast majority of us didn't want to believe any of this and still don't. It's not like we're bailing or questioning his relevance or longevity in any way, we're just trying to understand the situation and how we are supposed to modify our expectations. If we are at all. I think A LOT of us hoped this arbitrary bullshit would have run its course two years later. Apparently, it has not. So we have to come to terms with that. And there are tons of conflicting messages. On one hand, this album is being set up to be an Magnum Opus for him and we have music media types flailing their ever-loving brains out over it and on the other hand we have random radio peeps who are starting a whisper campaign to undermine the viability of a very good song. What is right? What is wrong? Where does the injustice begin or end? Who dropped the ball? Did anyone? How do we correct and adjust if there was a fumble? We don't know. We're just trying to figure it all out and I don't think anyone ever questioned Adam in any of it. Exactly! No one here ever expressed the desire to jump ship because of any of the above happenings over the past 24 hours! I don't want to go and "become a fan of some pop-lite artists" and I do resent being told that I need to do that because I worry for Adam. After all the gates we have been through over the past three years, the fans that are still around are fiercely dedicated and not going to leave because of something silly. Adam has done everything right- I want him to have everything he deserves! I have always been a big supporter of RCA, but I'm not thrilled with them so far this era. (that could change next week) There is still no reason to panic. I am still confident that this album era is going to be a successful one! Bocababe and twotrue:

Information on this very conservative monopoly would be very instructive I think.
