When a performance like Believe at the Kennedy Honors Awards had millions of views on YouTube in a few days, it was a sure sign of a viral performance that was spreading naturally because people were sharing it. When numbers jump after an AGT, Starstruck or Idol performance, it is because people watching it became interested.

The number of CDs sold in the US mentioned in the article (4,500) likely reflects the size of the OG Glamberts crowd, with a multiplier (since some of them might have bought more than one). I am not interested in that number, and it cannot drive streaming numbers anyway. I wonder how many of the 4,500 CD sales overlap with the 4,000 digital downloads...

I would like the unwashed masses to discover and listen to Adam, but that is unlikely because they have no taste in music

Similar to what Adam addressed earlier. I'm still hoping that Adam will get the chance to play gay or straight roles (as he has done) and will not be limited.

While they may be competing in different categories, one thing unites frontrunners Blanchett and Fraser: they are straight actors playing gay roles. While they are able to receive roles across the spectrum of sexuality, it’s rare to see gay actors (particularly men more flamboyant and open with their sexuality) cast in a straight role – or indeed one that isn’t defined almost solely by orientation. Blanchett herself has waded into the debate of straight actors playing gay roles in recent weeks. Speaking of her roles in both Tár and Carol – and the presumably the queer-coded Ocean’s Eight reboot – Blanchett admitted that she doesn’t understand the “obsession with labels”, noting that she “doesn’t think about [her] gender or [her] sexuality” when choosing roles. What Blanchett fails to understand is that the same privilege – “anyone can play anyone” – should be afforded across the board. Right now, it isn’t. Queer actors do not have the luxury of circumventing the labels Blanchett herself has dismissed when searching for roles – because society refuses to. Queer people are often perceived by Hollywood (and much of the world) in a certain way that ties us almost exclusively to our sexual orientation, in turn limiting the opportunities presented to them that would otherwise showcase their range and versatility – that they too can step into someone else shoes. That they too can overcome the “obsession with labels”.

Yup, totally agree with everything including the numbers. My feeling is there are roughly about 3 to 4 K of us in the US and under 10k globally, “us” meaning those who’d do anything to support Adam. (No idea why I feel this way).
In any case we’ve managed to do enough to generate “good” sales which in turn led to (positive) publicity, so in my book - Mission Accomplished.
Streaming is not going to be affected by the core fandom imo but hopefully all the promo and reviews and playlist placements would move the needle.
”unwashed masses” appeal - looks like Adam gave up on that idea completely. As long as he keeps singing, be it his own creations or covers or opera arias - all while being happy - I’m happy too
