happy . How could I forget OneD! Not sure I’ve seen anything of Matt Cardle since though…and he has a lovely voice. But Rylan and Fleur show that these contests can open up other opportunities. Makes me wonder what would have happened to Adam if he’d been voted out in, say, 12th position. Would his personality and appeal have given him another way to the top? I think it would have If Adam had come in 12th, it would have taken him longer to reach stardom but with his never give up attitude it still may have opened some doors for him. But it is probably harder in the US and you need to stay and make a mark as long as possible. But I thought it was funny when Idol had a gay contestant and they made his sexuality excessively part of his story week after week after week. He was a good singer but not the personality or charisma of Adam. And one of the producers (she was not there when Adam competed) bragged that as a gay contestant he would go further than Adam and win. HA. He came in 5th. What she failed to understand was that everyone knew Adam was gay but that is not what pushed him to second place. He just out performed everyone. In fact, being gay has never been a selling point for the conservative Idol voters and can cause you to lose some votes. Even Lyndsey Parker was wrong when she found out Adam was going to be a mentor for Queen week. She said Adam and that contestant could give their coming out stories and she was excited. They brought Adam back to mentor ALL of the contestants and help ALL of them do their best for Queen week cause he was a successful Idol alum and the Queen frontman and not because he was gay. Adam was not going to come on Idol as a mentor for the group to discuss how and when he came out, lol. In fact, when Adam was there, that was the only week the guy and Idol did not try to exploit the guys sexuality. It didn't even come up. The guy gave a good performance of WWTLF and he advanced. But once the contestant was voted off the show he was quickly forgotten. Imo, he may have done better post Idol if there had been more focus on his talent instead of all about his sexuality. Not everyone knew that Adam was gay! I wasn't on the computer then and didn't even think about it when watching the television show. I just found him enormously entertaining!

I guess there is never a case where everyone knows everything. But he was not hiding anything. I found out about him and his sexuality before I even started watching the show because they were talking about him on CNN. They were interviewing some effeminate overweight gay man, who did not even know Adam. But he was really putting him down and making fun of him with the limp wrist and mockery like that was who Adam was. He was hoping Adam would lose by pushing gay, gay, gay like it was a disease or something. I don't think they would even allow something like that today. And there was FOX news and O'Reilly was making sure all his viewers knew about the gay guy who (oh the horror) might win Idol and posted pictures of Adam kissing an ex-boyfriend. I felt sorry for him and tuned in with the hope that he had some talent. To my surprise, he was not only supper talented and handsome but not anything like the gay stereotype they were making him out to be. If I had not known ahead of time, I would not have known he was gay either. HA. He was singing Track of My Tears. Then of course, there was Danny's pastor who was mad when Danny was voted off and he was encouraging Christens to vote for the other Christen and not the non-Christen gay guy. It was pretty ugly but Adam got the last laugh if not the win. And for sure once I saw Adam, I went back and watched all the previous episodes and never looked back.

Interesting how you found out about Adam! Maybe because I live in Canada all that gay news didn't make it here or maybe just not on the news shows I watched. I never viewed him as effeminate -- just loved his choice of songs, costume, presentation -- and the idea that he might be gay just never entered my head! I just found him jaw droppingly entertaining on that show!!

I just found him jaw droppingly entertaining on that show!! HA! I forgot you were from Canada. Adam had more publicity and press here, while he was competing, than anyone else before or after. Seemed almost everyone was talking about him. But like you, I never viewed Adam as effeminate either. I doubt so many women would have been drooling over him and calling him sexy and hot if he were, lol. His ex-boyfriend Sauli was not effeminate either. I never would have known or thought about him being gay but for him dating Adam. In fact, if I remember correctly it was Sauli who said effeminate men were not appealing to him. And Adam's makeup was along the lines of many glam rock artists so that was not much of a tale tale sign tho some make it so.
