If the album is coming out "Mapril," lol, then we should be hearing about a new single within a couple weeks I think. Unless they plan to debut the second single the week of the album drop.
The song has a hook, but it takes a bit to get there, if that makes sense. The song builds, rather than hits you right away, which is why I have always considered it a "grower."

If a new single is coming out before the album, my guess is first week in April. Also, remember, that WWFM and the album pretty much came out simultaneously and both did quite well!

I sing to BTIKM all the time. I don't sound like Adam, but I still do it. ;D Besides, I think the "sing along" factor is over rated. Bop along, yes! Chair dance in the car, yes! But being able to sing along to a song has never been my criteria for a Pop song. There are all kinds of crazy big songs out that have so much techno & production in them it is really impossible to sing along at all! Unless it is a dance song, it is pretty important. When the notes are too high for most girls to sing along to, there is a problem. My DD, who loves Adam's voice, pointed this out the first time she heard BTIKM. (She is a musician and a vocalist.) She pointed out that the high parts were almost too high for her. DD also said that Adam sounded like Chris Colfer from Glee in those higher parts. Now, to her, that was giving Adam a great compliment- but it immediately made me start worrying. It may have been cool to sound "like a girl" if you were MJ or if you aren't gay, but I'm not so sure this is working in his favor on radio in the US. Add in that it doesn't have an instant hook and you have problems. Even with all that, different and unexpected songs explode of Pop all the time. There is no way to ever really know what will or won't catch on. All the signs are there that it is time for the 2nd single. It is now up to RCA to know when to pull the plug and move on and they are notoriously terrible at that! >:(

Jablea, nothing about BTIKM sounds like, fingers on a chalkboard to me, I love it! annie, I agree with you about the WWFM and BTIKM comparison. For me, WWFM is way more HAC than BTIKM is. However, even I was surprised that RCA didn't choose one of the upbeat songs for the first single. My theory, that I have only shared with a few people via PM, is that I think the purpose of BTIKM and the video WAS to get Adam to break into all those conservative areas that never jumped on the bandwagon during the FYE era. It seemed to work! The parts of the country that added early and keep on adding has amazed me... Iowa? Macon, Georgia?! WUT! LOL! That's why I think a 2nd single was always intended before the album came out. BTIKM was a warm up for conservative radio. I really like the song too, maybe I need to live in Japan ;D I appreciate your observation regarding the conservative parts of the country who have been the early adds. I totally agree with your opinion that BTIKM was purposely chosen as the conservative lead in to the NEW ADAM. He visits all these radio stations basically make-up free, jeans & t-shirts with just enough rocker jewelry. I don't know how many times I have heard him say how he is so over the glitter era. I think RCA and Adam have been very clever, probably more Adam than RCA since Adam has also said multiple times he wanted this time around to be in charge of how he is presented. He has also stated he would like to try and make some new fans, so conservative song & more conservative look. Then kick some ass with #2 8-)

I live in AZ, very conservative state, not even WWFM was played very long on our major pop station. I understand if you don't want to say, like I said I am just curious. :D

Then they picked up. The local Pop stations came along after that and played it much less.

She has lived here in AZ for about 24 yrs., but, her heart has never left Tennessee. Go VOLS! Wish AZ was more like Macon, GA or Japan ;D

I love BTIKM and hope it makes top 20 on HAC at least. It deserves that. I also think BTIKM was released earlier than they had originally planned because that damn bastard album was out and being advertised as Adam's "new music" and the release of BTIKM took care of that pack of lies. It's a shame that things went down like they did and threw a monkey wrench into release plans, but I think RCA and Adam are working it just right now. They are laying the groundwork and I see things beginning to fall into place. I think single #2 will be released before the album and it will be a faster, dancey song that radio will love. So there. heh. ;D

Super discussion! Too many good points to quote so I'll just give my own (uninformed) opinion: * Hook. To me BTIKM has as good a hook as WWFM and far better than MKIA, which, as we all know, did well on HAC & POP. * Too high. Like myspenser I sing along with it with no problem. Perhaps a problem for those listening to me though. * Ending leaves you hanging. YES it does! I agree & I also think the beginning is weak - it doesn't grab you from the start. A stronger beginning & ending and a better beat would have made a huge difference. * Single #2. If it's the Bruno song how is that different from BTIKM? I think that will be another safe HAC song. It's not dancey-dancey in any way. So unless it's majorly changed we'll be right back to square one imo. What I find really puzzling is the fact that Adam has so much knowledge of and appreciation for Pop music. He seems to have a gut instinct for what will smash. Does he have no input at all into the choice of singles? If it is all TPTB at RCA that make the decisions I'm skeered.

why can't we get any recent sales numbers for BTIKM? I sure hope Adam has some input on what goes out as the next single, but I really doubt it.He keeps saying he has a lot of control, but didn't he at one point think the Mars song wasn't a good fit for the album ? Suddenly it's a good fit and the album is delayed.. Fists to RCA.. I said a while back , that if I had the money I would take out a huge full page ad in The LA Times asking RCA to let Adam's songs out as singles.Kind of like FREE( Willie)Adam.
